I like anime over american cartoons because I enjoy the art style and, more often than not, the storyline and the level of depth greatly exceeds that of american cartoons. Now, I'm not saying that anime is the greatest thing in the world and you're a stupid idiot if you think otherwise. All I am saying is that me liking anime over american cartoons is like saying that I like sherbert over frozen yogurt. A lot of people will agree with me and a lot of people will disagree with me with a lot of people not liking either and some people liking both.

I mean, I know that everyone here likes One Piece. One of them is a huge fan of Naruto as well as a bunch of american cartoons like the Animaniacs while the other is a huge fan of Bleach as well as Shoujo Anime.

I agree wholeheartedly. I watch both anime and American cartoons for different reasons. I expressed the fact that I dislike the way Japan animates, which has nothing to do with depth or story. To say that Japan is a animation god would be retarded. One Piece is plagued by many of the faults of anime as a whole so I choose to watch it sparingly.

tl;dr I like cartoons because of the animation quality, humor and simple premises. I like anime for it's stories and art (which has little to do with animation).

But gone are the days of this awesomeness. At 3:00 your mind leaves its mortal shell.

Everything looks so neat and clean these days. The gritty, dust-laden original transfers are so clean these days that it feels like every cel has been wiped clean with antiseptic in a world where every line is straight. There's no texture to ANY line. They're all perfectly the same width and perfectly straight.

The coolest thing I've seen in OP serial animation post Croc's defeat is whenever they attempt to employ Movie 6-style movement in the characters' motions. There's no humanity in it anymore. Everything is so perfect and moves so weightlessly, that there's almost no impact. I want to know that a human drew it, not look at something a kid with Flash could do.

Japanese animation was way better than American animation simply for their sense of texture, weight and balance and NOTHING to do with big eyes. But I dunno these days. What's left of 'Japanese' animation anyway.

The last work to seamlessly mix hand drawn animation and computer work without going too far was the original Ghost in the Shell animation.

No wait, I take that back.

Metropolis. Just look at how people walk in that movie. Their freaking clothes have weight and movement. THAT'S animation.

Other than that and whatever Ghibli pops out every once in a while, it really isn't anything special or exciting.

Very true. Even some really good American cartoons were animated there. For example, many episodes from the Bruce Timm-era DC Animated Universe cartoons (Batman, Superman, Batman Beyond, and Justice League).

I'll say! I liked when you could really see an artist's process in animation, not like this dull, robotic stuff they're producing these days. Toei is especially guilty in this respect. I understand that that's kind of the price we pay for smoother, cheaper, quicker digital animation, but it can really kill the beauty and artistry in animation.

I feel that in One Piece specifically there's rarely any attempt to even make the characters move like real people anymore. When you have Oda's dynamic manga as a source to work from, you'd think there'd be some of the liveliness suggested by the term "animation," but since somewhere in Enies Lobby the episodes have just seemed like collections of often poorly rendered stills and closeups. Not cool guys…

I practically live for the occassional Naoki Tate episode and where the heck did Koizumi go? Though some of the latest episodes have improved my outlook on One Piece's future in animation. I hope the trend continues.

while this isnt really related what also pisses me off are the THEMES of the new shows, we are getting like 70% harem and slice of life and science fiction or actuall thrillers are becoming a dying genre, what the hell?.

anyways, regarding the one piece anime, back on topic, yeah I also hate it for the usual reasons, slow animation, too much repetition on music, extended talk, etc.

I personally think OP just went into oblivion when it adjusted to HDTV, episodes before that everything just felt mroe smooth and easyer to watch, (though I think everyone knows this already)

In the past, there were poor animated series. Now there are still some.
For poor animated series in the past, I can show you some successful series like Dragon Ball Z or Captain Tsubasa. For recent awesome animated series, I can show you some series like Noein or Gurren Lagann.

Now, please don't say that it was better when animators were still drawing on their table with a pen. Because it's not true. It's like saying hearing music was better when ppl were still using light bulb in place of actual transistors...

If producers wanted to make quick money with poor animated series, they didn't have to wait for digital tools to be widespread...they already did so from the start ! And actually, it can work ! Just look at DBZ....a lot of still images and mere travellings...however it did gain success worldwide !

I didn't say that the old ways were worse. I just want to demonstrate that digital means to make animation can't be accounted for an overall lower quality in current productions, because it's not true. At any time you look, there are poor and good productions, it's not because the means to realize them evolve that it'll go for the worst.
The only thing I may agree with you is about the current "germ-free world" but it doesn't bother me.

I think that max. 2 chapters is enough since a One Piece chapter covers enough content to fill an episode with it. Sometimes even 1 chapter works well if it's stretched out wisely which of course requires careful and considerate handling from the anime staff (which they proven to can do sometimes but unfortunally the opposite happens moreoften). 3 chapters however is definitely too much for one episode of One Piece.
