…there are good european cartoons...
Fuck yeah there are! Asterix 4 teh win!
Now, we got ppl saying again "old days were better"…
Because they were.
For poor animated series in the past, I can show you some successful series like Dragon Ball Z or Captain Tsubasa.
Are you literally off your rocker?
DBZ had some of the grittiest most incredible hand-drawn animation I've ever seen in a series on television. In fact, it's one of the series I was thinking about while writing.
The early Z episodes are so line-heavy and carry so much weight you can fucking feel the weight of their clothes and feel the sweat dropping off them, even in bullshit scenes. And Captain Tsubasa??? WHAAAAAAAAAAT?
Look at 0:42
Nowadays they'd draw it like this:
HOLY-FUCKING-TARTAKOVSKY! IT'S SO INNOVATIVE!!!!!
See back then, they used a type of line called 'curves'.
Now, please don't say that it was better when animators were still drawing on their table with a pen.
Yeah man! That shit sucked! Like, actually watching something and realizing that it was created through hours of labor and love by a human instead of being digitized, cleaned in Photoshop, retouched, quality-checked by the latest dust-removing software before being placed over a CG background.
Stupid old people and their oldener ways making more worser animation!
Finally, no one said every series available these days sucks.
That Guren-whatever series is very impressive. While it still looks like the germ-free world, lines carry weight and there's careful attention paid to the movement and physics of characters.
