Good filler and bad filler

The only reason anyone ever really liked Ice Hunter was because Oda designed some characters. The arc itself was ridiculously bad. Rainbow Mist was chock full of dorks in clunky looking battle suits, crying kids, and an old man who can flick bottle caps. Nice try, but fail. The goat arc isn't worth mentioning. Neither is the Millenium Dragons/Apis arc…but I will. It's chock full of...nothing interesting. It does explain the weird guy they decided to spoil the canon for no good reason with while they were going over the reverse mountain.

G8 was indistinguishable from a typical shorter arc, so that made it worthwhile, even pretty good. I liked the individual episodes, Zoro's with Giant Whale Dick/Johnny and Yosaku, the Robin/Chopper one, the Usopp firecracker one, even the Sanji one (as I enjoy the cooking and the stuff) after Arabasta and the one during W7. The Brook one just made Brook look way more pathetic than he is. Generally, the individual character building ones are worthwhile. The ones based off the cover stories are decent, and I didn't mind the Edo-era ones just because it wasn't like watching a parody of One Piece instead of the real thing...just something different with the same people.

When I watch most of the fillers, it's like I'm watching another show that is making fun of One Piece. Which isn't bad some times, and it's pretty fairly typical of fillers with most of the big ongoing series (Bleach, Naruto, etc). But I really don't enjoy them unless I'm slightly inebriated. I found Ice Hunter almost unwatchable, but I have to admit, the fillers are getting better. At least they're not just all focused on the stupid characters that the filler writers create, and make the Strawhats take a backseat to the plot.

I liked te Ice Hunters arc pretty good. Oda designed Don Atchino and there were some fun scenes and a nice battle.

I also liked the Ace episodes in the Alabasta arc, maybe minus the Sand Pirates.

Oh yeah, the Fake Rebel Army episode was pure awesome and really funny.

I was thinking that the next fillers could be about what happen to every one before they reunited, a bit in the logic of the 10th film, real stories by Oda that will only appear in the anime! And when the filler ends if it is well plan they will be right back in the manga…

I never really watched the G8 filler, but I will eventually do so one day. I like the Ice Hunters Filler the most, though some of epi's weren't that great.

I agree w/ O baba, I think theres no doubt that will happen, but not this season, since just like the opening shows, they are going immediately to Amazon Arc + ID arc, and I think they can do it, since they are doing it a ch an episode

G8 hands down, due to the fact, that 1) there no kid characters 2) We get more of a positive insight to the marines (ironically this was before showing that the WG are complete bastards) and 3) the fact theres no real boss character here, just pirates in the worst place they can wind up and scrambling to get the heck out of there. Not to mention I like that doctor and head chief characters, really cute.

Ice Hunter wasn't bad though I didn't really care much for the Pheonix Pirates, they just seem like characters thrown in to assist the Straw Hats. Still it was nice to have bounty hunters for oppoenets. We don't really get much insight on them

Didn't really mind Apis, she wasn't as annoying as later kid characters in fact I like the remake of the Calm Belt scare which inculded her. And Erik was a pretty cool villan espeically his last bit as they entered Reverse Mountain. Yes the marine blockade goof was a glaring oversight (I think this ep was made before Oda got to that part in Alabasta, same thing with Chopper and his Monster Point) but it pretty forgetable. Hopefully Funi will write around that.

well the apis arc wasn't that bad it just was ok to me but yeah Erik the whirlwind was an awesome villian plus his japanese voice reminded me of Frieza i don't know but could be the same voice actor because the tone of his voice was the same as Frieza

also ummm i also like most of the fillers in One Piece compared to other shows because they seem more well developed then some other fillers that have boring stuffs all the time.

I'm mostly ok with the mayority of OP fillers.
I loved and that was the G8 (though not all of the eps). I loved the Mugiwara theater shorts too. And I so hated that episode in which Zoro is forced to take care of some annoying kids after Ennies Lobby, it was so out of character of him. I just didn't like those fillers. And the Foxxy Arc fillers almost made me skip that arc too. I loved the Foxy's non filler parts but the filler ones were just… too much for me. Also the Apis arc wasn't that good either imo.

Some OP movies were good. Movie 9 was a good "What if?" movie and I liked the way it was drawn.
I also liked the soccer and baseball specials :P

I was wondering though, those three filler episodes had very little Nami and Robin. How come filler doesn't focus on them? I wouldn't complain about a Nami and Robin slumber party filler episode.

I think Toei actually had an episode planned for them during the post-Enies Lobby episodes, but it then got pulled for probably being too bland.

I even remember us getting a title for it, something about a shopping mall I think…

Loguetown fillers actually were relevant, and Usopp's goggles were planned out by Oda. Sanji's tourney made relative sense, didn't take up too much time, plus we got Buggy extras. Plus we got anime version of Crecent Moon, and the Gold Roger bar was pretty cool.
Warship Island. Kid centric. Stupid fruit. Stupider boss enemy. Fancy animal made to acomodate plot.
Arabasta filler. Slowed the Strawhats down, random poneglyph, stupid bounty hunter's kids, most retarded umbrella heads, other Ace fillers were all cool.
Post-Arabasta. Chopper-Robin stuff made Robin's introduction a little less sudden, paper salesman was… ugh, curry episode was amusing just because I started making curry often right about then, fireworks were kid-centric :(, Johnny/Yosaku was a cool backstory for Zoro
Goat Island. Centered around old man. Stupid profession. Stupid boss enemy. Stupid animal used to acomodate plot.
Rainbow Mist: COMPLETELY kid centric, even the old people were kids, GOD I hated this time traveling normal island, ELECTROMECHA shit. They tried to explain it with "we didn't tell you we were alive because we NEEDED TO GROW STRONGER" Bleach level bull.
G8: Loved it. About Strawhats, had an awesome villain that didn't even need a DF, great comedy "that fine-tempered snake?", and fit perfectly in continuity. Plus, Movie 4 introduced Naravone waaaay back.
Davey Back Fight fillers: Painful and nonsensical, but acceptable because thats the entire premise of DBF. Lame and slow, but acceptable.
Ocean's Dream: Pretty cool, a sneaky way to recap everyone's backstories. There was a kid, but it wasn't the center of it. Arc started out cool, ended meh with the giant seahorse. But it was a nice prelude to Robin's memories. I thought the idea of the arc was pretty clever. Island even had a 'theme' the giant reef.
Foxy's Return: Pretty cool honestly, but this and all Foxy returns don't make sense. Again, the premise of Foxy/DBF, so I accept it. The fights were filler-funny, but funny nonetheless. Really funny in the way that Team Rocket never got ridiculously boring and old.
EL Recaps: I got tired of watching Luffy push everyone off after the FIRST repetition, so seeing it like 8-fold was not cool.
Post-EL fillers: Kid-centric for Luffy and Zoro, generic faces, terrible. Zoro had like 12 kids, especially terrible, with terrible terrible art. Random pirate Oda designed (mikazuki) had more detail than every other character, Zoro included. Sanji's was pretty cool though. Everything made sense, and no retarded designs, and not kid-centric. Old Sanji was fantastic.
Ice Hunter Arc: Island theme, random characters, decent pirate Captain. The crew was somewhat lacking though. The Atchino family was okay, but the fights were obviously filler material (ie pitiful usage of Gear2). That said, the entire arc was a cool way to break in the sunny. Flag substory was great though.
Chopperman: Not REALLY filler, but I enjoyed it anyways.
Mugiwara theatre: Again, not REALLY filler, and I enjoyed it.
Spa Island: Foxy, so I'm not taking it super seriously, and free fanservice. Otherwise, the eps were kind of lame and kid-centric.
Brooke joins the crew: Everyday life, was pretty cool, actually. I was plesantly surprised.
Everything with Edo Japangu: Good in between breaks, a fun way to reintroduce old villains over and over. Buggy is well remmebered, so is Bentham because of these.

On the subject of bad filler, the post-Enies Lobby filler episodes were some of the most painful things I've ever sat through since I watched FLCL… That one with Luffy and the Waterhorse was so bad it made me angry. Why did I sit through it all?! The hell was wrong with me?!

I still think that G8 is among the best material in the whole series, be it filler or not. There are some scenes that are funny as hell, like Sanji trying to bust Usopp, Zoro and Luffy out from the cell and ending up using record and flavor dials (where Luffy has stored some farts) or the discussion about using the octopus balloon (and revealed that Luffy had it stored in his pants). That arc alone is miles ahead of every other anime filler I've ever seen.

Just watched Ice Hunters and Spa Island arcs.

Ice hunters: They tried to make it look like something from the manga, and could have done worse, so good. Achino was a good villain, rest of his family was meh. Phoenix Pirates had so much angst they could sail in Narutoverse. Fights were terrible(well maybe Achino's wasn't), especially the nonsence that is the defeat of Brindo(that red twin).
Pacing was ok and the story was very very good, finally some filler that doesn't seem out of place in the One Piece world(gonna watch G8 later and I expect quality).
Overall, yeah, good.

Spa Island: I don't know why but after watching it, I think this would have worked a lot better as a movie. Fanservice, two annoying kids, but still nice and short. It kinda had a movie 2 vibe, don't know why. Still, I cannot criticise it because it was so short and really didn't dissapoint. One Piece need more stuff like this, well, without the kids, of course.

As fillers, yeah, pretty good episodes.

I never remembered this arc as bad and after rewatching it in english there were a couple of good laughs there, sure Apis was annoying, but it wasn't as boring as everyone is saying, same with the post-Water 7 arc, I actually thought it was alright, instead of horribly boring..

I loved G8. I wish Oda would do something similar to that in the canon storyline.

Okay filler:
G8 arc. It's pretty good, but doesn't feel like OP at all. It was interesting and well exectued, though. the running gag with candoriono was legendary.

bad filler-
most every other filler. i havent seen rainbow mist. but i generally dont hate apis or anything, either. op filler is usually slightly better t han traditionally shonen filler...but it's still pretty skipable if you ask me.

I'm only in the middle of the Enies Lobby arc in the anime, so I haven't seen all of the filler arcs.
Lougetown filler: Good, since the Usopp episode was planned by Oda himself, enough said, and the Sanji episode was pretty entertaining.
Warship Island: On one hand it didn't totally bore me out, with Eric and the Millenial Dragon being pretty awesome, but it did have some inconsistencies (such as Zoro cutting steel,) and Nelson was a bit too repulsive even by OP standards. Apis was sort of annoying but less so in the dub imo.
Alabasta filler: Loved the fake rebel episode. Scorpion episode was decent. Sand pirates were not so great. The rest I don't really remember, so they're probably forgetabble.
Post-Arabasta: Zoro's episode was pretty good, Robin's episode was good, Usopp's episode was okay, Sanji's episode was meh since the kid was sort of dumb, and Nami's episode was nothing too special.
Goat Island: Pretty Boring, but okay compared to…
Rainbow Mist: Good GOD where do I start? First of all the character designs are all ugly and uninspired even by OP standards, and none of the heroes or villains were all that interesting. A bore to sit through, and easily the worst OP filler I've seen so far.
G8: Very good quality, SEVERAL funny moments, could be mistaken for a manga arc.
Davy Back Fight Filler: Didn't really like the arc itself, so I didn't really care or notice a difference.
Ocean's Dream: Bored me.
Foxy's Return: Foxy and his remaining crew were pretty entertaining, but otherwise okay.

Really can't wait to see the friggin' recap episodes. :|.

Worst Filler: Enies Lobby. I don't really care if it's canon. The amount of crap crammed into this arc in the anime really killed it for me.

I haven't seen all of the Ocean Dream filler yet but but what I did see of it I wasn't too incredibly impressed with it and I haven't seen the Ice hunter arc. Honestly the fillers are another one of the things that makes One Piece so special to me because unlike the other shows that have filler pretty much all of One Piece's fillers are good. Though if I had to get picky and say best and worst I would say.

Best:
G8 (so many funny moments)
the Spa Island arc (it was beautifully animated for a filler, funny and cute as well)

Worst:
Warship Island arc (I just don't know why but there was just something about the arc that bothered me like it was too slow or the whole "I'm going to teach kids about the dragons even though they don't come back for 1000 years" thing)
Rainbow Mist arc (I just didn't like it)

I despised Warship Island for the sole reason that it was right in between Loguetown and Reverse Mountain. It's like "YEAH! We're headed straight to the Grand Line!!" one episode, and then the next it's "We're gonna help this random girl go home before we go to the Grand Line." Plus, you know, the two Zoro inconsistencies. I liked Eric and the storyline though, I just didn't like where it was in the series.

I enjoyed Daddy the Father, G-8, Ice Hunters, and some of the other random filler sprinkled around in the series.

I usual skip out on most filler eps but here's my list of those I've actually seen:

Great Filler:
G-8 Arc - Love, Love, LOVED it! It was the only filler I actually watched twice. Which is something I almost never do. Just the whole idea of landing smack dad in the middle of a marine prison, wow, talk about bad luck. It had me captivated from the beginning till the end.
Brooke's day with the straw hat crew - It was really good episode, it played on two things; Brooke trying to play his part as the new member of an amazing pirate crew and how the Luffy and gang spends their day on the Sunny. I even feel bad calling this episode "filler" because of the bad ties the word usual upholds. Yes it's not canon but I think there should be an exception to the rule for this episode.

Horrible Fillers:
Warship Island: Dragons? Really? Well I didn't have problem with the idea of magical dragons in the One Piece world, it just that the arc was soo boring! Speaking of boring…

Rainbow Mist: Made absolutely no god damn sense. I understood completely what was going on and what happens when you enter the mist. It what happened afterward that was really stupid. The kids trapped inside eventually escape with Luffy's help and then returns to their home island like 50 or so years later. Why wait that long if you knew that your hometown was under attack by pirates? They were rescued by marines! I'm pretty sure someone on that ship would've believed them, maybe not the rainbow mist part but the "MY ISLAND IS UNDER ATTACK BY PIRATES!" part.

And Enis Lobby goes without saying.

this pretty much goes for me as well, i like some of the filler with just the SH crew especially the brook one you mentioned, since they are usually more enjoyable. The ones i really dont like are the ones that focus on a new character way more than the straw hats, not that it shouldnt since its neccesary to move the plot along, but there are some filler characters i just couldnt care less about to begin with.
