My bulky DS is still working fine so I doubt I'll be getting it. If it breaks, however, it'll be a different story. :p
Eh I'll wait for DSi ver. 2 with the 8 Megapixel camera.
Damn you nintendo. I just bought a DS. I waited so long cause i was mad last time when they brought out the DS so quick after i bought an SP. so what's so great about this one?

It has a 3 megapixel camera and Punch Out DSi (that classic NES boxing game with Mike Tyson in it)
who needs a freaking camera >_>
Apparently the camera is needed to play some games. Oh and IIRC it has a built-in photoshop.
actually, unless that is an old article, they said no games have been developed yet that use the camera for game play. it would probably be something stupid anyways, like that eye toy the PS2 had. "look ma, my charicter has my face on it" (the pictures are never flattering)
I like my region-free DS Lite which can read the GBA games more than that shitty DSi with its shitty camera.
They did this with the Gameboy and now they're doing it with the DS; making umpteen different incarnations to rake money out of people. They had Gameboy, GB Pocket, GBC, GBA, GBSP and GB Micro (Seriously, how many people bought the Micro? That was pathetic)
Anyway, back on topic, I wasn't sure about the DS at first, in regards to how popular/good it would be, so I waited and finally got a DS Lite (worth every penny). But yeah, there's no way I'm getting this. I don't need a camera and it doesn't have a GBA slot! (bollocks)

looks weird
It looks pretty cool in my opinion. I would buy it if I didn't have a DS already.

The DSi uses SD cards don't they? Just wait for a homebrew program to let u play GBA ROMs and NDS ROMs on it and you'll be fine.
The camera may be shitty, but what's so bad about the DSi?

ATM the only console/handheld Nintendo made 'umpteen different incarnations of' that I can think of is the GBA.
…and raking money out of people isn't a bad thing; they're a business, its their main purpose.
If anyone is to blame for the wasting of money its the people who buy them; you don't HAVE to have the latest stuff, but when you are be smart about it and get it when you can afford it.
They had Gameboy, GB Pocket, GBC, GBA, GBSP and GB Micro (Seriously, how many people bought the Micro? That was pathetic)
The Gameboy was released in the 1980s-Early 1990s and was black and white
The gameboy Pockect was released nearly 5 years later, it was just a smaller GB, thus anyone who didn't have a GB, would get this instead of the older one if they wanted, this DOES NOT MEAN older GB owners HAD to get it.
In 1998, the GB Colour was released in Japan, notice how it was released nearly 10 years AFTER the GameBoy, this one offered additional colours to the console. Older GB owners could've gotten this one instead assuming of course they didn't buy theirs prior to its release, but how could you blame them? You never know WHEN a new product's going to come out and these companies HAVE to release new stuff every 3-5 years.
Now the GBA was released in 2001, this one is purely a completely new system since it uses 32-bit graphics (though not a very good audio output program) and could run GB and GBC games. Do note that the last GBC game came out at around 2002; nearly 4 years after the release of the GBC, plus the GBC could run GB games, so even if one had a large collection of GB and GBC games, they weren't in a loss since they could still run them on their GBC if they wanted, OR the GBA.
Now the GBA had as much good games as the GBC, with the last one released said to be in 2008.
During this period the GBA SP was released in 2003 much to the chargin of original GBA owners. Now if the GBA and PS2 wasn't enough to show you; don't get the latest console out, wait for an updated ver. (sadly this doesn't apply to the PS3 since the 60 GB one could run more PS2 games properly than the 80 GB).
Now GBA Micro was released during the first few years of the NDS, that is part of why it didn't do so good, plus it's price was higher than a normal GBA SP. GBA Micro also couldn't run GB nor GBC games, but that wasn't much of an issue to some people. I personally feel compelled to buy a GBA Micro due to its slick design, but that's my only reason for doing so :P
This one was sadly a bad marketing plan; the NDS sold in it's first year as much as the GBA Micro sold in 2 years! (Note that I got my figures from wikipedia)
So for the first 3 GB~GBC you got a BIG time space between them, the GB might've been the dominant handheld at the time, but Nintendo HAD to take the next step with it.
Anyway, back on topic, I wasn't sure about the DS at first, in regards to how popular/good it would be, so I waited and finally got a DS Lite (worth every penny). But yeah, there's no way I'm getting this. I don't need a camera and it doesn't have a GBA slot! (bollocks)
Am I the only one who is hardly disgrunteled at the lack of a GBA slot? Removing GBA compatibility makes the handhled lighter, and the GBA games COULD be sold over a DSi shop (hopefully for a very cheap price, or if you can get to play online and get points trade points for them), should that be featured with the DSi
Also the DSi was announced in 2008, released in 2009. DS Lite was released in 2006, you having got the DS Lite at such a later period shouldn't be bothered with the DSi, mainly because there are loads of good NDS games having been released over the years and they should be very cheap now. Plus a few more NDS games should be coming out for the next oh…2-3 years?
Don't see what's the big annoyance about the DSi is, it's just Nintendo's next console/handheld and they need to release them every 3-5 years to attempt to stay at the top of the competition.
^Okay okay fine, maybe I overreacted a little bit. Actually, funny story, it's kinda hypocritical of me since I own(ed) all of the GBA incarnations except SP and Micro. Also, is there really an idea for a DSi shop (I'm guessing that's VC for the DS) that Nintendo is working on, or is that your own idea? Well, either way I'm still not gonna get it.
Yup there is a DSi Shop-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_DSi
…but hopefully they implement the purchase of GBA and maybe even GB games. I mean heck there are emulators that can emulate both handhelds pretty well on a PC, don't see how they can't do that with the DSi.

Ha, interesting. And good to know. Thanks.
I can't stand any of this new system crap every 2 years. I liked it when i had one system, for 5-10 years, and just kept buying games that i could play all on one system.
no, now it's see this game. it's awesome. but you can't play it. you have to spend more money to buy a new machine to play it with. and look at the Wii now. You got this fancy new machine with the latest technoilogy, and they're bringing out games like MM9 that i could be playing with my nintendo.
and yes the GBA slot is importantto me. I like to have a physical copy of my games. Also, I paid for my copy of FF6Advanced. I don't want to DL a rom. I want to play the copy I bought. and lighter…it is called DS lite already, isn't it. I'm not gonna damage my wrists from holding it too long.
i know, i'm really bitching about this. but it really does irk me. mainly because they keep having to bring out the new systems. ya they're there to make money, but there's also consideration for your customers. you don't need to abuse them and take them for every penny they're worth.
I can't stand any of this new system crap every 2 years.
It's not really like that, tho.
DS has been around for over 4 years now and, as far as we know, Nintendo isn't releasing a new handheld system anytime soon. This machine is still just a DS. The same old handheld in a new shiny package. It's not away from people who already owns a DS but it's a good thing for those how doesn't yet have a DS. And besides console manufacturers has been doing this stuff as long as there has been gaming machines anyway.

Yeah really, as if Nintendo makes consoles out of the goodness of their heart.
Sorry, Tonfa, now you kinda lost me there. I said they make consoles out of the goodness of their heart? :wassat:
Europe: 3rd April
Australia: 2nd April
I like where this is going, my Phat DS broke a couple of months ago, and It comes out on a WEDNESDAY.
My DS Lite's top screen has been tinted red for some time, and makes it really hard to play certain games, so there's one word on my mind now: Want.
The light blue looks kinda ugly to me, so black all the way.
interview of DSi

Wow, I wanted this so bad back when they announced it last year. Now looking back on how often I've played my DS, I think I'll pass.
The thing looks strange. I'll stick with my lil sisters DS until something happens to it.
actually, unless that is an old article, they said no games have been developed yet that use the camera for game play. it would probably be something stupid anyways, like that eye toy the PS2 had. "look ma, my charicter has my face on it" (the pictures are never flattering)
In Nintendo Power's latest issue (sorry, I don't have a scan), they actually mentioned a Warioware game that will use the camera function. And I love Warioware games :D
They had Gameboy, GB Pocket, GBC, GBA, GBSP and GB Micro (Seriously, how many people bought the Micro? That was pathetic)
Raises hand
I actually got it because my SP broke (my brother claims he didn't do it, but that's seriously the only logical conclusion there was, considering the situation that I found it in), so my dad bought me a micro to replace it.
I'll admit, it's pretty neat, but sometimes it just feels rediculous to hold something so small.
I might get the DSi. I still have the bulky model from the launch date, but the R button quit working a few months ago. I'm contemplating on getting the DSi or Lite..
@Mr.:

I'm pretty much in the same boat. My Lite's L button is on its' way out, amongst a few other issues with it. I'm gonna trade it in for a DSi. I'd recommend getting one too, since you've already got something else to play GBA games with.
Now that the unit's been out, has there been any reported complaints about it? Like for example, how some DS Lites got a crack in the hinge, and like Kaboom's problem with the L and R buttons. My brother's Lite's L button quit working on him about a year ago.

so far just Squeaky hinges
( saw a few threads like this in the nintendo tech forums)
Got mine today. I'm quite happy with it actually, its feel is a lot better and more comfortable and the new additions are pretty nifty. I'm not sure about the volume buttons instead of the slider.
I also wish I didn't get GTA for it. God its boring.
I got mine for free. As free as trading in a large amount of games can get ya.
I enjoy it too, Bird and Beans is my favorite DSware game.
GameStop's having a special going on for the remainder of the month wherein you get like $70 for your DS Lite if it's traded in towards a DSi. That's not bad at all, since knowing GameStop, they' probably only give you like $45 or something normally.
So provided my tax return gets itself here soon, I'll be taking advantage of that to get myself one of these sexy suckers.
It's not just Gamestop, most stores are doing it now for competition with Gamestop. (The duh heard around the world…)
Either way, I got my sky blue DSi to counter my Cobalt DS Lite. I love the color blue...
