Best wait and see what comes out to get a better idea of this.
For the record the recent Tomb Raider games were good.
Oh yeah, SquarEnix bought Eidos
-
-
SquareEnix + Edios =…...SquareEnixEdios? How is that going to work out?
This is a positive and a negative for my sister.
Biggest Lara Croft fan I know, loathes Final Fantasy, ADORES Parasite Eve.
Strange... Maybe Square could pick up Free Radical so we can have the next Time Splitters game.
-
What the…
Is this for real? I heard the tomb raider sellings weren't all too great, but didn't expect this.
What does that mean for future games of both parties? -

Crytek already bought Free Radical.
-
neato.. i'll now call them
…sqeeidos

They aren't merging, just becoming a part of (for lack of better phrasing).
Same thing as Taito.
-
wonder if they'll try to get Midway since they are going under now
-
SquareEnix knows what the are doing.
-
You know, at this rate in couple years there won't be more than a dozen game companies left.
-
Which isn't really that bad a thing IMO.
-
All I see is that they put in a takeover BID.
They did they same with Tecmo. Look where that went.
They may or may not take them over, but it's not finalized. Namco-Bandai put in one for D3 as well.
-
Didn't Eidos produce the PC Versions of the PSX Final Fantasy Games? I remember because I had a copy of the PC Version of Final Fantasy VII and I got a cd entitled 'Eidos Demos' in the box, which had demos of a bunch of Eidos Titles. Thief II, Revenant, and others.
-
Both companies were Godlike during the PS1 era.
This really doesn't seem like a bad thing at all.
-
wait, who did parasite eve? Eidos? not big into the horror action games, but that game was really good, i will admit. even got the intro on my mp3.
-
Parasite Eve was Square
-
you know, i probably should have known that. lol it's been so long.
-
you know.. back when Sqaure were considered gods of their craft…
nowadays.. eh.. not so much..
-
Great, now I have the song "Nowadays" from Chicago (the play) stuck in my head.
But Square isn't all that bad nowadays. The FFVII sequels are slowly decaying. More attention is being paid to the other portions of the series, and the future.
Not to mention, another Parasite Eve game coming out. I mean, the last one we had was PEII for the PS1.
-
Looks like it's final and SquareEnix will officially own Eidos come May. I was over in the Legacy of Kain forum over on gamefaq's (was looking for cheat codes) and they were all bawling a lake, thinking SquareEnix is gonna turn Kain into Cloud and all that shit. Chances are the LoK franchise isn't even gonna be touched anymore, which I could care less considering the only game I got and played is Defiance which I got as a gift and don't really like.

Oh wait, you were serious?

WERE is the keyword.
Eidos has been just…there, and Square is a shadow of what it once was. Especially since they've decided to make the Final Fantasy series into a huge joke. I can't recall the last time I was excited for a Final Fantasy release that WASN'T a port or remake of an older game.
Though they are doing quite well with Dragon Quest, but that's mainly because they have Enix with 'em.

What is wrong with S-E nowadays, beyond the occasional spinoff? What's wrong with the new Final Fantasies? I'm not big on X, but it's still a good game. XII is a terrific game as well.

They're not enough like VI & VII:silly:.

VII sucks. The last good main FF game was IX.
X was overhyped to hell due to the graphics at the time. Through out the whole game, Tidus bitched and whined about how he hated his father and how daddy took him away from mommy and how daddy never loved him. Follow that up with a terribly confusing mini-game THAT THEY MADE NECESSARY TO PROGRESS THROUGH (the card mini-games in VIII and IX were made as optional). Then you have the main villains; Seymour, a pot bellied, generic "I'll act suave to the world to make them think I have no interest in doing anything wrong" villain who has an interest in having Yuna to marry him by claiming it'll put an end to most of the world's problems.
Then you have Sin, who's basically been around forever only because everyone who's stopped him before ended up sacricing someone to kill it and bring it back. What? To top it off, it's Tidus' father, which lead up to more crying and whining from Tidus upon discovery.
Finally, you have Yu Yevon, the main thing behind everything. Your final battle with Yevon is…in the form of a sphere that takes control of your summons. Really...? That was the best they could do for a final battle?
And what's the big shit on this supposed cake? Tidus is a dream, Auron was dead through out the whole time and they eventually made a sequel for this damn game.
Now, XII I haven't played too much of. But one thing I instantly took notice was that the main male protagonist looks more like a girl than the main female protagonist. There's also no overworld, like in X, which made both games extremely linear and didn't leave much room for exploration aside from going around towns and such.
All in all, I have not enjoyed these games and completely felt like a sucker for buying into the hype that FF fans lead me into. X was one of the main reasons I wanted a PS2 and didn't get one until I could get it on my own. Once I played through X, I felt cheated.
Especially felt even worse when I spent over $70 on Kingdom Hearts II and the large ass strategy guide, only to find out the game could easily be won by simply mashing the attack button and that the game was less like the original and more of the typical soap operas that the FF series has been becoming.

I think you also had to play the VIII and IX card games to progress through the story…
And I didn't find Blitzball confusing at all...

And I didn't find Blitzball confusing at all…
I think he was referring to what you had to do in the temples.
-
No, Blitzball itself was incredibly confusing and unnecessary to make it a necessity to play through.
-
I didn't HATE FFX, but it could have been better, and you brought up some good points tsukento. and ya, I was playing FFX to play an RPG. I didn't want to play a freaking sports game. can't stands the sports stuff. It was original, it was neat that it was there, but i didn't want to HAVE to deal with it.
-
Welcome new Final Fantasy thread.
Oh, and Blitzball was actually pretty fun, after the first game anyway.
-
what do you expect when someone starts a topic about squareenix :D
-
Blitzball was actually pretty fun to me. Besides, you can EASILY cheat. You could leave the ball carrier at a corner of the map for pretty much the whole five minutes. Just do something else in that time.
But RPG wise, FFX was awesome.
It could have done without the annoying mini-games (Blitzball not included). Dodging lightning was annoying.
-
but i didn't want to HAVE to deal with it.
Just throw the game like I did and you won't have a problem.
-
I could never figure out how to play Blitzball, which isn't surprising considering I don't even know how you play football.
-
Found this concerning what is entailed in the acquirement:
- Square Enix mentioned that Eidos' operations will remain independently after the company became a subsidiary of Square Enix. The Eidos CEO Phil Rogers will remain his position, and will report directly to Yoichi Wada, CEO of Square Enix Holdings.
-
In other words, they're independent until it comes time to show off their projects to the heads, in which case will boil down to them deciding if Laura needs any prequel side-story games to explain her past.
-
Square Enix has no plan to release Final Fantasy V & VI on Nintendo DS, but he thinks it would be an interesting idea.
The article also included this snapshot of SE CEO and President:
I also read this gem:
Square Enix has no immediate plan to release Dissidia: Final Fantasy on another console, partly because the most attractive features of the game is ad-hoc.
Yeah. Because you know. People couldn't possibly enjoy the benefits of ad-hoc from the comfort of their own home.
Oh, and this.
Although the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII has ended, but they came up with many small ideas from the FFVII games, so there's a possiblity there will be more FFVII games in future
Fuck this company.
The magic is over.
-
Blitzball was NOT hard to figure out.
I never hated a video game mini-game more than I hated that damn Balloon Chocobo Racing bullshit. Angriest I've been at a game since I went through the Guilty Gear XX mission modes.
-
Blitzball was my all time favorite mini game in an RPG. After you recruit Brother, there's almost no need to learn anything. Just pass and shoot. Some of the teams are annoying though… Specifically Guado, but I'm racist agiant those bastards.
-
I hope this doesn't sound too silly but… what is ad-hoc?

A [completely useless] feature that let's you play 'network' with anyone within a few feet of you. So let's say you wanna have a raid in Monster Hunter, you have to join 4 of your best male friends and invite them over to sit down while your stare at 4 screens in one room speechless for an hour at a time.
I've seen it at school.
When the last bells rings they sit in the classroom like silent zombies attached to their games.
Now that's cool and all, but how about being able to do that from the privacy of your own home?
Sony saying that feature is a reason NOT to port it is like them saying…I don't know. I can't construct a smartass metaphor. In short it's them saying something fucking terrible is a good reason not to improve it.

Nintendo gives the same reason for why they never made, or will make a main pokemon game on a console. With Ad-hoc party, though, you CAN stay at home and use it :p
