Michiko to Hatchin

So here we have my latest find. Michiko to Hatchin. A Road Movie anime covering the two main characters trip through the Brazilian underworld searching for a man of their past. From cool action scenes over sad fates to startling speeches you will find everything that belongs into a good girls-with-guns anime. The quality of the different stories (1-2 Episodes each) varies a bit but they were all on higher level to me.

It's not finished with it's original run in Japan yet. Last episode there is a release date for is Nr. 21. About to air at 11th of March. I read somewhere there will be 22 episodes. Dunno for sure though. It's getting subbed pretty fast (<1 week after airing) by BSS and is released in HD and FHD.

Anyone else following this one as it is aired?
Next episode is going to air tomorrow. And it's a double episode! :)

basically, it's the best show i've watched in ages. awesome characters, animation, and general coolness (even if episode 1 is a bit annyoing… until the end of it). well, when you have soil&pimp sessions as the opening, you know the show's gonna be interesting.

the south american touch to the show is really great and come on i want to know a lot more about michiko!

One thing I find odd is that most of the cast have Japanese names even if their ethincy is purely South american. Then again maybe the names I find to be Japanese are actually sort of common in South america…

Yeah I really thought I was seeing the wrong show in the beginning. The mood is a lot darker than the rest of the show. Also I like the tough Hatchin lot more than the tributary Hana. Episode 4 for example where she is drunk is so hillarious!

Great series, I think I fell in love for it! :D
Refreshing and thrilling, and even though Michiko is an asshole sometimes, you can't help but absolutely love her XD
Everything in this series has style, the landscapes the cities and especially the music add to the brazilian atmosphere, like I'm sitting in a sunny café in brazil, playing children and straying dogs around me.

Since you watch all the episodes up to date, m00n, maybe you can help me out here.
I reached episode 13.
and there's something I don't quite get
[hide] It's the episode where Atsuko, the police officer and Vanessa, the charismatic girl from the village, enter the ancient ruins, which turn out to be filled with poisonous gas (tough luck)
But who the hell saved the two of them? Or did Atsuko actually manage to drag both of them out?

Spoiler for Ep. 13

! If I get the end of this episode right it's about chasing people important to you rather than going for money and fame.
! So Atsuko says going further is impossible. She doesn't say going back is impossible too. (Thats what the subs say at least) My best guess would be they gave up and returened on their own. The mood in the next scene isn't a happy one from the start. Vanessa thanks Atsuko in a way of "Thanks for trying but we failed." The 180° is when they decide to go chasing michiko/Vanessas boyfriend again. At least by than both have given up on the gold and fame.
This isn't the only situation where the story remains blurry and ambivalent. They are quite lavish with their stories. Most of them could be twice as long without feeling much dragged. While this makes the series shorter and a bit harder to get it also increases rewatch factor and makes sure there are not many boring parts. So I'm not exactly complaining. :P

After watching the final episode I have to say I loved it. The ending was both realistic and original. They did a good job building up to it during the last couple of episodes. My only complaint …

! … it was kind of weak for Hatchin to be standing in the middle of a random road waiting for Michiko to come. Even if she knew what road she would be coming down she didn't know when she would come. It may have been in the next few hours or the next few days.
! It was kind of dumb and cliche to give Satoshi a Piccolo style death.
! And the last complaint is a personal one, but I wanted to see a older Michiko. I'm annoyed that we only got to see a silhouette of her in the last scene. I feel robbed as a fan. A woman can be older and still look hot.

Now I have a question, do you think Hatchin is into girls? I started getting that vibe from her character. She seemed to be more comfortable around women then men. But to be fair most of the men she meet where jerks, to put it nicely.

Oh my I forgot to post in this one after seeing the last two episodes.

Well I did't like Hatchins ulta short hair but that aside it was a pretty nice ending. Anti climatical course of the big fight in 21 and the warp up in 22. But I didn't expect anything else. I had no problem with Satoshis death at all. The scene with him laying on the ground was a very fitting death for a man like him. Also I didn't see any Piccolo Style in in his death until you said it. Does he really throw himself in front of Hatchin?

The idea of the journey is the reward became clear when Hatchin and Hitoshi didn't get along at all. The random road reminds me of Love Hina where there is far more obsurce meetings dozens of times ^^

Reviving this topic for the heck of it(well…. not quite). I finished this few months ago and I have to say this is one of the better series out there. Very cultural, nice action sequences and intense moments. Satoshi was epic chracter and Michiko felt like a really powerful motherly figure.

There were some bad episodes, and there were others I didn't get the symbolism behind. It was a nice ride. What I would like is a dub. It would be satisfying to hear the accents and such.
