It's by the new studio Platinum Games, which consists of the finest ex- Capcom developers ( Whole Clover team, who made Viewtiful Joe/Okami, plus creators of Resident Evil and Devil May Cry ) and the story is by Matsumo Yasumi ( Final Fantasy 12 ).

hmm looks pretty cool. but that's cause the graphics are slick. Other than that.. this could be a hit or huge miss. or just mediocre. I dunno, it seems to be taking the manhunt route by focusing on crazy death animations.

although i do give clover much props. But sheesh fools, just make another Godhand and we'll be sqaure

Actually, if you've seen the info on the game, it revolves around finding fun and varied ways to kill. From God of War-style "press this button at this time" combat, to getting various weapons that give you various lethal options, to brutual minigames like Man Darts.

Plus there's the hilariously tounge-in-cheek TV show aspect of it, complete with commentators.

Also, HOLY SHIT IS THAT STEVE BLUM PLAYING JACK?!

Steve Blum is the man. But i'm getting kinda sick of hearing his voice EVERYWHERE. Whether it be main characters or every other anime extra out there. But regardless, the fact that they are choosing good talent is a great sign that they are giving this game attention.

and that's a good thing.

My gripes aside. I do like the smashTV feel of it. Not every violent game needs to be serious. Tongue and cheek is the way to go for this title.

9.5 Presentation
Absolutely stunning presentation headlined by amazingly stylized graphics and audio. The look is bold, the commentary hilarious. Great story, too. Lacks leader board and online options.
9.5 Graphics
Drop-dead gorgeous art style that's altogether new to the videogame arena and great tech to back it up. Characters and locales constantly wow and the rivers of blood never looked better.
9.0 Sound
Had it not been for some repetitive in-game dialog, we'd have given this a perfect score. The punchy sound effects, hilarious commentary and awesome soundtrack all come together brilliantly.
8.5 Gameplay
Not just blood and guts. Great, smart gameplay controls and hilariously gross mid-level challenges all complemented by epic boss fights. Camera system, though, could use some tweaking.
7.0 Lasting Appeal
You'll blast through normal difficulty in five or six hours, which is short. But you can come back for the ridiculously challenging hard mode or two-player split-screen challenges.

i've watched more footage on this title. I gotta say i'm honestly impressed. It looks polished all across the board. Makes me jealous of Wii users, but I suppose they should be allowed to get a decent game sometime.

6-8 hours to beat though? sheesh, that Hard mode better be worth it. And if it's anything like Godhand, it should be HARD AS HELL!

I don't see why the camera is being complained about though. To me it looks EXACTLY like godhand's style of camera which should work just fine.

and the commentary sounds really funny.

oh and some of the kills I watched puts the worst deaths in Manhunt to shame.

This game is fucking amazing. And funny. Amazing and funny.

I just love the overall way it plays; you don't traverse any stages, you're given a big-ass area filled with unique ways to kill, and you just go nuts, and try to rack up points. It's just stage after stage, where your objective is "go fuckin' nuts! Do whatever you want! And hey, if you want an extra challenge, we hid shit in these places, too!" Also, EVERY stage has at least one unique minigame that's fun as fuck.

Also, the bosses are fucking awesome. Hell, you can even beat one of them with his own severed arm!

Must Buy, I guess

X-Play also gave it a 4/5. A star more than they gave Resident Evil 5. I've been wanting the game for a bit over a month, but I just don't want to get a Wii right now. But this, No More Heroes, One Piece and probably other future games are making it tempting.

Doubt it. Not only is this game solidly an exclusive, it just wouldn't work on the other consoles. All of the finishers are motion-related, which is half the fun of it.

Bought this game today and just beat Yokozuna(the 3rd Asian Town Boss).This game is pretty awesome with the over-the-top violence so far.

How roughly long was the playthrough? I've heard some people beat the game in a little under 4 hours….

Couldn't say. I didn't time it, and I could only play sporadically since I've had a nasty fever for about a week. Still, it is short. But it's the kind of short you expect from an arcade-style game.

4 worlds, three stages each, with the third stage being just the boss fight, and a 5th world with two stages and one boss fight. You do the math from there.

The short length does make playing through again with the new weapons and harder difficulty alot more appealing, though.

Finally available in Europe
Already played 3 hours and I'm at half of the game, I think. When I played the first two tutorial stages I thought it was a good game, but from the first "real" boss on, through Asian Town I had an blast playing this, awesome game.

Agreed ( I'm now finished too ).
But, the final boss is also one of the best I've played in a long time :

! Boxing against Black Baron, who flew in while sitting on his pimp chair. Very fitting song, also one of the best in the soundtrack, the Geishas you release in one of the earlier stages are your groupies now, the QTEs were already awesome but even more intensive due to Wii controls. It was pure fun imo

= Epic win, this alone makes the game worth a purchase

Also love the final boss fight. Best power struggle in the game, too. Plus, the two final boss songs were awesome. Also, the final boss' attacks were just cool as hell. Including his Shoryuken, and what happens to you if you're hit by it.
