One Piece just doesn't fit on Adult Swim. And these days, it wouldn't even thrive.
I agree… then again Bleach and Death Note and Geass are thriving quite well on AS

we need new voice actors because I swear whosoever doing Luffy's voice has driven away a large percentage of possible fans
People who watch 4Kids version will give up before Funamation so maybe Funamation should kill off all people who have in someway worked on 4Kids version of One Piece… No better yet kill anyone who has ever worked our helped 4Kids to take revenge on what they've done to One Piece in the name of absolute justice..... I'm just kidding of course:ninja:
Joke or not, choperman's solution is is not a wise one.

oh yes why dont they just get rid of all the vocie acters have a popularity contest for the next. and start dubing from EPISODE 1,also re realese the first three voyages. oh yes thats a perfect idea. what could possibly go wrong!

Because those shows fit on Adult Swim. Yeah One Piece has its adult content, but the whole story seems like it should be appreciated by more than just an older audience.

It being given the axe at lot sooner rather than later?
hmmm… im starting to think that this thread might not end up being as helpful as originally intended.
If you get rid of the TV option which is most unlikely anyway then all the result seems to be in equal measures and if everybody wants something different then it's not going to do much.
If we had the entire board saying something like WE WANT A MOVIE or WE WANT THE DBZ/RD SPLIT BOXSET then they might be more pressed to do something about it.
Well it is obvious we want more stuff, fans of a series would always like that.
The TV option I had to put in to avoid the useless posts saying "why isn't it an option". I know that one is probably unlikely.
I thought the movie option would have gotten more votes though, just because it is a one shot thing someone can try and right now the only option is movie 8, which will turn more away than it will attract.
I'm confused about what they'll do when (if?) they stick OP back on the air, even if it's only on Cartoon Network in Australia. I was wondering what they're gonna do when they get to the widescreen episodes. I guess they could just air them as is, but that may seem out of place compared to everything else. Well, I'm just going from my old, old memories back when Toonami was on all week. I haven't watched TV in years, it could've changed.
I think a weekday afternoon block would probably be ideal, so that they can do what CN did with Dragonball Z and not make people wait for one new episode a week. I can't see it airing on anything other than Nicktoons or Disney XD, with light edits of course. It's just not late night cable anime material. It has too much of a youth/tween demo potential to fit in with Animonday, Adult Swim etc.
ImaginAsian might be able to do something with it, or some comperable network, but those types of channels don't get the kind of nationwide coverage that Nicktoons and Disney XD does.
I voted for the mvoies. EGX provided a good enough explanation, and I'm pretty sure rushing the season sets wouldn't be the best idea considering it might catch up to FUNI's recording process.
Hmm.
Would putting the movies on a site like Hulu be beneficial? I know that isn't exactly in Funi's control (the digital releases, I mean) but could that option work?
Yeah, no ones staying up till 2 AM just to watch Hatchi call someone a bitch.
ROFL!
I would stay up till 4am, just to see that!
Then again…I am somewhat of an insomniac, but...never mind that! ^^;;
by the way, love the sig dixxy mouri. i too support that. and I BELIEVE IN ALL BLUE!
No way man. Luffy is the only exceptable pairing for Nami in my eyes.
Because those shows fit on Adult Swim. Yeah One Piece has its adult content, but the whole story seems like it should be appreciated by more than just an older audience.
Despite the title, a lot of people staying up to watch AS are teenagers and young children. I know I've seen sooooo many 10-11 year olds watching Futurama and Family Guy on there. If AS came on a little earlier, and OP was the opening act, I honestly could see it doing well. I do remember TONS of 14 yr olds staying up to watch InuYasha, too. I think that age group is probably ideal.
I honestly think, throwing a few episodes up for free on the Funi channel would help. Or a movie, as long as it isnt that godawful Movie 8.
I think I voted for movies because it's more realistic but the serious and only major way to get a chance at mainstream status would be exposing the casual fan to OP in a completely uncut form. Even tweenage kids who live and die by Naruto probably wont take OP seriously until they see some blood or hear a curse word.
I think a weekday afternoon block would probably be ideal, so that they can do what CN did with Dragonball Z and not make people wait for one new episode a week.
It worked for Naruto along with some other shows.
@Yuugi's:
FUNimation should consentrate on a advertizing campaign focused on advertizing the DVDs as uncut and the such.
I have to also agree with more TV advertizing. IMO, it reach more potential fans and it is cheaper than most of the other options. It works well for the short run, but for the long run I think one piece will eventually need to be back on TV to ensure its survival.
How 'Bout bringing one of their shows to the UK for once !
The only good thing about 4KIDS was that it aired in the UK,
So atleast we had something related to One Piece merchendise,
since we get none over here -
Oh, silly me, I forgot, we did get merchendise over here !
Two old dub games that were only sold in shops for a month at max …
And a keyring, but that doesn't really count 'casue I got that from A local Japanese shop that's long gone now.
It's so annoying - I mean It's not like we speak the same language or anything
Guess I will give my two cents, so I picked get it on another channel, but let me say why I did not pick the others.
Movies-I am with the other fans when they say that movie 8 was not as good plus if you don't know the back story, most movies will not work to get people into this.
Ads-The only ads I seen on tv were for DBZ. There were few times on Coulor Channel I saw some ads for amime but they were old ones.
Boxsets-These are for those who already know about One Piece. No one will spend $30-40 for something they never heard of . Too many sets are a turn off also (Naruto's 12-13 boxset already).
DBZ-May work but only for those who are into DBZ.
Now why I picked tv is it is free to a point, most people watch tv so you can attract a bigger group of ages. If I chose a channel, it will be G4TV cause they have an "asian import" block with Ninja Warrior and Banzuke; they would not have to edit too much cause they do show the Adult Video Awards on there; and they use to have an anime block. But, that is just my two cents.

hmm they could work with that actually pretty well they could do allot of plot jokes with it(pirate vs ninjas) and they dont really edit their anime. only problem is that they stop showing anime anymore
Give Latin America the third season and/or redub entirely with their footage
Get this show on another channel. I think the 4kids stank has worn off. I wonder why the CNAU hasen't shown anyomre eps. I assume that FUNi has no more to give them.
They dubbed councurrently with the uncut. It was a struck of luck that a few uncuts slipped and graced australia.
BTW on the new channel I call Nick.
I think they should release Dead End Adventure. Just watched it online a few days ago and loved it.
Well if they decide to reboot the series on to Nickelodeon, then I think if they could edit the first 4 episodes into a "movie pilot" similar to how Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, or Talesspin did. Originally I thought the first 3 episodes would work well, but right at the end they mention the Strawhat had another owner, which would feel odd to end the special with. But it would be nice to not over whelm the audience with four straight episodes but instead one special. It sounds easier to register.
I did something similar to my girlfriend with the marathon mode, and she got hooked quickly. It went from watching the first 4 episodes, to watching the whole First Voyage, and she would've watched the Second Voyage if it wasn't so late in the night.
If we go with a movie approach, then anymore with the crew up to Robin would be fine. Though part of me want to see movie 9 due to me want to see it in English, but that wouldn't be the best movie to jump start the series.
I voted for putting One Piece on another channel because to make a good profit out of releasing this long anime they need to catch a bigger audience than just fans who already know the greatness of One Piece, and that won't be accomplished without a TV deal.
I'd like a movie 4 release also, but that is only a personal wish :P xD.
I think Funimation should do several things to increase the popularity of the show and thus their bottom line. Getting the anime back on t.v. and paired up with an already popular show would help. Should they do that route they want to restart at episode one. Putting the show (dub and sub) up at sites such as Hulu is another method they should look into. Finally completing their One Piece site. Getting reviews of the DVD and the show into popular magazines and onto popular review sites. Bring over the video games and spending some money to get some decent coverage of them. Keeping the unique laughs when they dub. Stuff like that.
Bring over the video games
The only games they (Namco Bandai) could bring over here are Unlimited Cruise and Gear Spirit and those aren't very stellar games.

While Funimate can't actually port over the One Piece games they could apply some pressure to get them over here to the states. As far as being good, they don't have to be good, they only have to be decent and sell. If Unlimited Cruise is as good as Unlimited Adventure was (which wasn't a bad game, just an average game), with the proper advertising it could sell well enough to cover costs, provide a small profit, and spread the brand name (which is something all parties involved with One Piece should want since a more notable brand means more fans means more people buying their stuff means more money).
I still think we the fans should do some viral advertisment for the FUNi One Piece dub like the Earthbound/Mother people. Can you believe that some people still think 4kids has it.

If you want Unlimited Cruise, check my sig - Ichigo D. Storm and I are trying this approach to get Namco Bandai's attention. However, note that Green vs. Red and I both said Namco Bandai - NOT Funimation, as Funimation is just in charge of dubbing the game - actually distributing the game is Namco Bandai's call.
I think the games are primarily for fans, but you may have someone who doesn't know what OP is buy it, find they like it, and then pursue the series. Alternately, you could always introduce someone to the franchise via the versus mode in Unlimited Adventure (or, if it comes her, UC) because it would be quick, interactive, and hands-on. I wouldn't say it would be a primary focus, but it could work for some people.

This is what happens when you don't do research or just have the engine on upstairs but no one at the wheel.
I'm all for seeing another One Piece movie on DVD, especially if it's 4 or 6. But, it would probably be better for Funimation to stick to the boxed sets. Besides, if they keep at the pace of 2 months per release, we'll be seeing Little Garden dubbed in no time.
I wish they'd try and make a reboot movie with the introduction of Luffy, Zoro, and Nami, maybe culminating in the end of the Buggy arc or something.
I just wish there was a way to have the origin story told to people who haven't seen it before, as a way to springboard them into watching the show.
I'd say no they already fucked of Alabasta with movie 8 and I'm definitely not vibing with movie 9. Granted the Buggy,Baratie,& Arlong arcs wouldn't be too hard to adapt into movies given their lengths but why needlessly risk fucking up the original canon (again)?
They should dub the shorts from the movies and put them on their Youtube channel.

Making new movies based on the cannon won't in anyway "ruin" the existing cannon in any way. I don't see how it could hurt. I would probably like an origins movie. It could prove as useful tool to help get someone into the show. I don't show people random movies/episodes way far down in the timeline like others do. So I always marathon the first 15-20 episodes with a freind to see if they like it. (and usually they do, in which case I end up rewatching the whole show with them. seen One Piece start to end of Skypeia three times) =P And I liked Movie8 after I got over the odd pacing. It's cool to be able to watch a summary of the Arabasta arc with awesome art/animation with newly done scenes. (in English at that)

Including poorly drawn ones (not that the original episodes didn't have any.)

Meh. No bad drawings really caught my eye in the movie. I thought it was better for the most part as far as art goes. Of course the original series is my preferred way of watching the story though.

Yeah. Wish it had Ace or Igaram in it. But hey. An arc that takes….like...idk, 30 + episodes is hard to squeeze into an hour and a half film....
but look on the bright side: FUNi will get the whole of it, and it wont be too long before it comes out right? sure it may be a few years but hey...
Funi should do what Viz does, on the Naruto website you can watch new episodes of Shippuuden subbed for free legally. Funi should do the same concept with One Piece. Also lowering the price of the DVD's a bit or adding more episodes would help. But getting it back on TV is top priority.
That's up to Toei to decide.
I just hope that Funi keeps up the pace they have now for the boxsets. Getting 13 episodes every two months is pretty good and gives one enough time to save up for the next set. Sure, four months was enough time to save up, but c'mon, that kind of wait is too long. I hope for Funi to maybe start releasing the movies during their release of the second season. Especially since Movie 1 up to 3 deal with pre-Alabasta stuff. Like most people, I also hope for OP to return to TV…there just isn't anything worth watching on TV and seeing DBF and Water 7 on there would be awesome. ^^
I think at this point with no TV deal in the near future. streaming episodes either subbed or dubbed online would probably be a good idea and a great way to get new fans for the series.
I think they should release it with DBZ, necause even if they release it at a different channel, viewers may not even bother to watch it (due to 4kidz giving it a bad reputation). So if they shown it with DBZ people will like oh well lets watch this as well and then so on.

I wish people would stop putting all the blame on 4Kids. Even if someone else beside 4Kids had gotten it there'd be no guarantee the series would have ever taken off.
And besides, they already did that on Toonami, and apparently that didn't help to save it.
That was after the 4Kids dub killed the reputation of the series, and when Toonami's ratings seem to have been plummeting (remember that Toonami was cancelled about 6 months later). This would be on DVD, where you're getting a very different type of anime fan than the kind of person who lives off of Toonami, and it will be a quick promo of what the series is like (remember, this oneshot was the one that was popular enough to get Oda a series), and it will be with a new DBZ episode. The "new DBZ" bit alone would have fans scrambling, and if a new show happens to be on the disc, they may give it a chance just because it's there. And if they've judged One Piece by the 4Kids dub, the accurate dub of Romance Dawn may make them think that perhaps the series is worth investigating, and worth figuring out why it's not like they thought it was.
Green vs Red: I'm not sure how you could say that 4Kids isn't the party mostly at fault. Sure, if FUNimation had gotten in the first place it still may not have been popular, but that's unlikely, because a lot of the reasons for why it's not popular are tied to 4Kids. It looked kiddy and pointless and the voices sounded stupid and the opening theme made people think it was a joke. FUNimation even 5 years ago wouldn't have done that. Just those factors removed, and already you have a situation where people actually watch the show and judge it for themselves, not run from hammers on springs and Luffy's shrill voice. And with the story actually intact, the story could pull people into the show, the way it couldn't if the kiddifying turned you off too much to even try to get into the story. If you could enjoy the story despite the kiddiness, then you could become a fan of the series' through the 4Kids dub, and perhaps later the original series.
And then there's the Naruto factor. The fact that Naruto came onto Toonami and was one of the most uncensored shows they ever aired, even at the beginning. Sure, they edited the kiss and botched the opening theme, but not like the Gum Gum Rap. The blood was there, the voices sounded fitting of both the characters and the story, the fighting was present, the drama preserved. I mean, when faced with that, is it any wonder that people preferred Naruto and maligned what they perceived as a bad joke aimed at 7 year olds? I can watch anything once I'm watching it, so I watched One Piece and didn't care about the kiddiness (plus, my first two episodes happened to be ones that 4Kids didn't botch very badly), and the story drew me in, far more than Naruto's did. But a lot of people won't actually watch the shows to judge them, their impressions will be formed by the first minute of viewing. And one minute of the 4Kids dub does little to impress, especially somebody watching something else that lets them feel more "adult" and "hardcore".
Well the one good things 4kids did was let people know that One Piece was out there. They should get some more advertisements out there and release the box sets at a quicker and more steady pace. Hell, at this rate I would settle for having one piece on a basic television station. It is interesting though that on one of the spanish channels, you can see one piece from time to time, but it is in spanish but it is still one piece. I wonder if we can help spread the word beside through the internet. I got people into one piece by showing the first few episodes at our anime club meeting.
Green vs Red: I'm not sure how you could say that 4Kids isn't the party mostly at fault. Sure, if FUNimation had gotten in the first place it still may not have been popular, but that's unlikely,
And yet look at Detective Conan.
Very popular in Japan here not so much.
FUNimation even 5 years ago wouldn't have done that
but not like the Gum Gum Rap.
Detective Conan was marketed to the wrong demographic also. They put it on Adult Swim because it has murder mysteries, but it belongs there about as much as One Piece does. Possibly less. So of course it was pulled and never got popular. If it had been on even Toonami, or just regular Cartoon Network, it would have had a much better chance. You're just giving another example of how mis-marketing can stop a series from becoming popular. But Detective Conan's mis-marketing wasn't on the part of the dubbers themselves, as One Piece's mis-marketing was. It was on the broadcasters.
And Dragonball GT is the exception, not the rule. From what I've seen, it's pretty much established that FUNimation dubs more or less everything well, except for DBZ and DBGT. On Dragon Ball itself the consensus seems a bit divided, but even that they seem to have done relatively well, if not as well as most of their non-Dragon Ball dubs. If you wanna prove your point, you'll need to post something FUNimation was dubbing at that time other than what's known to be a bit of an anomaly.
Though can we do this in PM's or another thread, please? I don't want this one derailed as brutally as the "Best Evolution in Artwork" thread.

I don't really see how a show which revolves around a teenager turned into a kid who solves crimes most of which involves someone being murdered in cold blood could've ever gotten much success on Toonami or anywhere else sans Adult Swim without being heavily edited.

I can be a bit asinine but not that much.
So don't worry.
