The other day I was wondering how hard it is for Funimation to edit out Sanji's cigarette. So i tried it myself in PhotoShop CS3. I found out its wasn't so easy. It was easy editing the cig out but getting rid of his hands and arms was a different story. So I was wondering if you guys could give me some pointers on how to do this stuff. I enjoy art and PhotoShop so I happen to find this quiet interesting.
By the way how do you upload an image on here. I attempted to edit Sanji from a scene in ending 3.
Editing of Sanji's Cigarette

You don't upload the image - just use photobucket or another site like it.
EDIT: Man, I was more out of it than I thought to type photoshop.

Fixed.
In any case, it shouldn't be too hard, use a program like photoshop (I prefer GIMP because it's a free program and it works just as good if not better than Photoshop. I suggest using tools like Smudge and Blur after editing the necessary parts out that would get in the way, and then add in the graphic that you want to edit in, but make sure that the background of the object that you decide to implement is completely transparent. If the background is a solid color, a good way to do it is to use the eyedropper tool to pick the color of the background, select the Fill tool, select 'Color Erase' in the Fill Tool's dropdown menu that appears, then it should completely erase the background if done properly. Then just move/rotate/resize the object until you're satisfied and you're golden.
In any case, when you're done editing, upload to an image hosting site. I personally use Photobucket, but other people use Imageshack and others. Pick the one that's right for you, I guess. Good luck!

Imageshack is for retards and vaginas. The Murderer is correct, use Photobucket and GIMP.

bah, Photoshop is worth every penny.
of course, if you know where to look, it's also free.
Editing something like that is either really hard or really easy, depending on your photoshop skill. And getting it to always look right? That's it's own challenge. Once you figure out a way to do it, it becomes easy to reproduce.

I also have another question. Does funimation edit out his cig out frame by frame or some other way. If they have to do it frame by frame, that would be tedious.

I remember hearing about a feature on certain movie maker program(s) that allows you to place a video or picture on top of another video, setting transparencies as necessary. I don't know what program has this, but I know it exists because I have seen videos utilizing such technology including DBZ Abridged and various high quality AMVs on youtube.

Interesting, but it isn't very hard to do in this time to change the pattern of cigarette hand to empty. Its so easy now because many people know editing with Photoshop. Its so easy to vanish cigarettes.
