The Dude

There's been some debate over this issue and where exactly Oda drew inspiration from in terms of a name. But after covering Mesopotamian culture in History, I think I've got it.

The canon spelling is "Enel".

After going through several of the Sumerian Gods, here's what I've found relating to any part of his name:

Cheif God - Anu, the Sky God. Most worshipped, gives structure to the universe.

Forget the name and you pretty much have Enel in a nutshell. As for the name…

Next worshipped, Enlil, God of Wind and Air. Caused floodins and drought.

God of Wind and Air sounds plausible for Enel as well. Plus, the name is strikingly similar. Also notice how the Skypieans lived in fear of "God" and the things they said might anger him. This was prevalent in Sumerian culture by all means.

I had been thinking that maybe it was Enero. Enero is Spanish for January and the Roman name for Zeus (I think) was Janus. But that's a bit of a stretch. It sure would be great to make a decision on this…

Stephen's scripts used the name "Ener" as an intended play on the word "Energy."

Actually, the Roman name for Zeus is Jupiter– Janus was the god of doors, gates, and beginings and endings. <-- massive mythology geek, sorry.

But that's a really interesting theory, The Dude, I'd been wondering how they were going to translate it and where Oda got the name from. Very plausible explanation. :)

Its ost probably taken from the word energy(Ener-Energy)
Since his power is lightning ,its electrical energy.

I would have used En-El: En from Mesopotamian gods and El as the older name of the Hebrew Yahwe (as in Elohim).
