The subtle things that make us love One Piece

Its simple, things that might go unnoticed or noticed only by you or maybe just something with a special meaning.

For me I have several but I'm only going to post a couple.

1. Sanji's attack names- I'm a Culinary Arts student in Chicago so hearing something like "Concasse" Brings me much amusement because not only do I know what a concasse is I have prepared Tomatoes Concasse

2.Nami- I love the liberties taken with nami, her breasts specifically I find it funny that the stronger the crew gets the bigger her assets grow. Well at least it is helping me enjoy the filler, seeing those things in a bikini nose bleeds

3. The Den Den Mushi- I love how occaisonally the Den Den Mushi's apperance will reflect the apperance of the charecter talking on it.

4. Laughter- this being two diffrent kinds, the laughter the series brings me, and the laughter of the charecters. I find myself mimicing charecters laughs occaisonally GERO GERO GERO, CHAPAPAPAPAPAPA, SHI SHI SHI SHI SHI, oh yeah and YOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO!

So what about you AP faithful?

I love how everything is related to something in the real world.

Names (using real life pirate names), Locations (based on real places), Plots ( based on actual events), hell even Den Den Mushis have a real life origin.

Den Den Mushis originate from a few studies a long time ago that scientists would conduct: They thought that snails could communicate telepathically from far away, and people tried to send messages through snails. Needless to say it wasnt a success. But in Odas world, he made it work.

I just love that the guy does so much research for One Piece.

Having been a fan of Chrono Trigger for years, I'd have to say that one of my favorite things is the attacks that require two or more people to perform. I've loved Chrono Trigger's double and triple techs, and I get to see One Piece characters performing their own.

But if that's not subtle enough, I'll just say I like how much work Oda does in not just making the manga good, but making the anime good as well. Now, I admit that I don't really know much about other mangaka, but I am amazed with a few of the ways he has helped the anime.
1. He's told the guys making the anime not to let characters call someone captain.
2. He's had one thing that was originally going to be in the manga make it into the anime as a filler episode.
3. He even designed a character for that One Piece movie about what would have happened if Chopper had joined much later.

I also enjoy how he tries to have a character's appearance be based on what they are like. For example, Usopp has a long, Pinocchio-like nose to fit with his tendency to lie, and there was that one marine from the Arlong Arc who looked like a rat and exhibbited traits that get associated with rats (or at least they do over where I live).

Hahah I remember that marine!Its the same around here so don't worry. You can also apply that to Kaku and his nose. Their is also a few other charecters like that the cp9 all generally look like the animals the represent. I agree fully I think my favorite are the charecters that just look like thier personallity, like Helemplo (sp?) in the begging he looks snobby and rich , which he is and than he changes and his apperance does as well. Same with duval he is weak, cowardly, and spiteful at first and his appearance relfects that, however when sanji fixes his face his personality changes and he is prissy and over enthused with himself and thats what he looks like he would be

Well, I'd say he's prissy and over enthused with himself because of the way he now looks, but anyway.

I love how in the manga, and even a lot of times in the anime, there always seems to be something going on in the background. Nobody just sits there. They're always doing their own thing in the background, even when they're not the focus of the scene.

I'd have to say the names, personalities and the backstories as well. The series has so many little extra things that tie it into a well woven large story.

The names speak for themselves. I couldn't help but smile in French the other day when our teacher told someone that Belle-mere meant step-mother. It's those kinds of little things that make me love the research Oda puts into this series.

I admire that Oda leaves relatively few missing pieces. "How do the Marine communicate within this technology level?" "Why do fishmen hate humans?" "What happened to Gol D. Roger's crew (in progress)"– the questions that would often be written off in other stories as minor details are often not only present-- but vital.

What I like about One Piece? Hell, everything! It would take me a whole day to write it all. So I won't..

.. or not.

THE STORY/PLOT - Even though you have absolutely no idea when's the show/manga going to end, you just know that there is something that the Straw Hat pirates must do, first. You know that they must finish this task, otherwise Oda simply can't end their adventures. He understands that, and since he decided not to stop the series when they were supposed to (originally One Piece was supposed to last for 5 years, if I'm not mistaken) now he must find a way to BOTH entertain us AND try to make One Piece as short as possible.
Other than that, the story is awesome! The arcs throughout the story can always keep you entertained.

THE CHARACTERS/THEIR DEVELOPMENT - One of the most noticable things in One Piece. The characters and their development throughout the series. Take Luffy for example. At the start he was simply relying on his luck and his Devil Fruit ability. But NOW he has mastered Soru and is using it flawlessly. I am sure that Luffy's fighting skills will develop even more. Now let's take another character.. like Zoro, for example? At first, he was also a bit like Luffy, but he actually relied on his Santoryu and the skills he picked up when he was learning to fight with Kuina. Now Zoro (after joining the Straw Hat pirates) is trying his absolute best to BE the best! His goal is to "never lose" and one day defeat Mihawk (I'm sure he'll do it, btw) and truly become the world's greatest swordsman.
And that's exactly what I like about the One Piece characters. Every one of them is unique and has his own style in doing things.
THE HUMOUR - Oh, you just can't deny that when it comes down to humour, One Piece tops most of the mangas/animes. Whether it's gonna be a "^_____^" facial expression, or simply another "oopsie" by Luffy.. you'll always find a reason to laugh. That's one of the main reasons why I love One Piece. Gold medal for One Piece, when it comes down to humour.

THE FIGHTS - My personal favourite part of One Piece. The fights. I mean, how is it possible (in real life or not) for one man to be so dedicated to their friends? To a point that you're actually willing to die, but save them. Just look.. none of the Straw Hats are actually fighting for themselves. There's always a strange reason why they're doing all of this. You see, they fight for justice. It's pretty much always this way: "Hey, you hurt my friend.. time to kick your ass!". Now THAT's epic!

These are the main reasons why I love One Piece. I just got lazy, and stopped writing.

Another reason for liking One Piece that just came to mind is Pandaman and other characters that keep showing up in the background.

I love the character interaction. Oda spares no detail when it comes to personal interactions between characters, and it keeps the manga from revolving around Luffy too much. When he gets a new member on his crew, it's really like a friend added to the social group and not another pokemans kept in a ball on Luffy's belt. I really like how it makes them feel like real people, because they all have their moods, change their minds, and kind of banter around without it having to be a major plot point.

Things like when Franky's getting frusterated, brook gets punched in the back of the head for a joke Franky would have otherwise tolerated. Things like that.

the excitement one piece brings to me every chapter makes my day. of course the thrill, joy, sadness and all mixed emotions one piece brings to its reader/watcher.

I wish I could say something that has not already been said, but, yeah….no luck.

Oh wait, I don't think this one's been posted: I love how Oda makes a scene seem mysterious yet unimportant at one time, and you may even laugh at it, then kind of forget. But later on you learn what it meant, and it's a pretty big blow. (Like when Usopp woke up to find someone repairing the Merry.)

i love everything about one piece…..well almost everything its ironic that you enjoy namis.....development thats the one thing that bothered me a bit
i mean i can appreciate it yea ...but one piece is simply too good to resort to fanservice ...namis strange increase in breast size takes a little bit of the charm away from the character
