Whoa. Wasn't expecting that.
Adventure Time!

Whoa. Wasn't expecting that.
-
Thanks. I turned on the TV after just missing the episode.
-
! So Betty's in AT world now. Well, thats something.
-
! Maja the Sky Witch was making the same brew as Simon…she might come back yet
-
! And here I thought she would get killed by the end.
! Not that I mind. This certainly opens some new gates.
! Why are we using spoiler tags? -
@Light:
Why are we using spoiler tags?
Because the episode has only aired once, just a couple hours ago, and was really easy to miss, so some folks might be coming in here purely to ask if there's a link yet. Or be new to the series and still be months behind.
It's common courtesy with new episodes of any series. Especially ones where something significant might have happened.
-
! With the way Betty was, all intense while simultaneously smart, it gives even more understanding why he wanted Bubblegum so much.
-
Weee, first episode after being all caught up!
! The two main thoughts I take away from this episode are
1: Theres now another 100% human person in Ooo. Finn will probably want to talk to her.
2: The timeline of the world was altered. This is good stuff for season finale set up. I will bawl like a baby if they need Betty to go back in time and die or something to save the world. -

Didn't do it for me.
! I was expecting something totally different, seeing how they set up Simon and Betty before. I was expecting a more… realistic approach? Y'know, questioning where you are, why does a dog talk etc. But yes, I have no idea where they're going with this, so maybe it'll be worth it. For now Betty seemed too cool about everything.
! Seems like the past that they got her from was when Simon put the crown for the very first time, but if so, then Betty rather quickly accepts what he became. This whole episode was quick.–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also, has someone posted these episode summaries from season 6?
! Here is what is known from Season 6 (8 episodes out of 26 so roughly 30% of it)
! Food Chain: On a field trip to the Candy Kingdom Museum of Natural History, Finn and Jake learn about the Food chain by becoming the food chain!
! Wake Up: In order to find Finn's father, Finn and Jake must commit a cosmic crime…unless the Lich beats them to it.
! Escape from the Citadel: Finn and Jake follow the Lich of the Citadel, where Finn meets his long lost dad. But just how far does the apple fall from the tree?
! James II: Finn and Jake discover that Clone James has been faking his own death to collect medals. But there are 25 Jameses running amok!
! The Tower: Finn doesn't like any of the new arms the princesses give him, so he builds a tower into space to find his dad and get his old arm back.
! Sad Face: Once a month, while Jake's asleep, his tail stretches out of the treehouse to go work as a clown in a traveling bug circus.
! Princess Day: It's Princess Day in Ooo! You know what that means? Yep, LSP and Marceline team up to prank Breakfast Princess!
! Breezy: With a friendly bee named "Breezy" as his wingman, Finn decides to get back into the dating game -

It was a link someone discovered on CN's page: http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/cnservice/cartoonsvc/content/xml/getContentById.do?contentId=429035
The link doesn't work any more, but a lot people saw that and confirmed that it is almost certainly valid. Of course, we won't know for sure untill we see the season for ourselves.
-
So basically….
(season 6 spoilers)! Finn does some sort of forbidden spell that costs him an arm? Or was it something that happened in the James episode? Who knows?! Exited for Season 6.
Also, these episodes looks the a spread of ideas that was supposed to be in the TV movie that could not happen. -
I wish i hadn't read them spoilers. Although i'm very interested in the developments of this episode even though it was very rushed. Also, how many episodes are left in season 5 or was this the finale. It seems like this season has been going on forever.
! Finn losing his arm to meet his dad sounds like some fullmetal alchemist stuff. The details there also sound like they should be the 5th season finale
-
Also, how many episodes are left in season 5 or was this the finale. It seems like this season has been going on forever.
This season, we discovered almost half way through, was actually a double length season.
For some reason.
No one's complaining.
There's 4 episodes left in this season, the last one is a 2 parter, so that might air in one go.
When season 6 starts… who knows?
-

Oh ok thanks. I looked it up and apparently the tv movie was meant to split the season but because it never happened they decided to just make the season longer instead. Confusing :/

Just hoping Lemongrab would come back soon. His story has taken such a dark turn I'm not even sure if he can be redeemed anymore! :cwy: Maybe if Lemongrab 2 is alive…
Then again we don't know exactly what set him off so badly. Lemonjon's death might have something to do with it. :ermm:

You may be in luck since the 2 part season finale is called "Lemonhope Story".
-
Well, I'm gonna start watching this for the first time in an hour or so. Wish me luck.
-
I got the first two seasons on Blu-Ray today (ordered from New Zealand, because they will NEVER be released here) and it's amazing watching Adventure Time in HD. The colours! .
I was going to watch only the first few minutes, since i've seen the episodes again a few weeks ago when Doug started watching AT, but i ended up watching 4.
-
-
This week's sure needs a re-watch just so I can pay attention to whatever was going on in the margins.
But otherwise
! geeez LSP just killed that dude didn't she O_O!!!
-
! If you think about it, that "time machine" kills everyone that it's used on but then clones them in a different location.
-
! Actually, Johnny shows up in the space surrounding the circle before the end, head first.
-
! that was quite a dark episode. I cant help but feel that bubblegums time machine is going to play a major part later in the story. I did like how jake referenced the previous episode though with the ice king having better time travel XD
-
! Man, LSP is such an idiot! Not that I didn't feel bad for her.
! On a lighter note, I can't believe they got away with mentioning Bubblegum's buns! Twice! -
That was one of my favorite episodes this season.
-
Whoah, Lemonhope. Good stuff. I'm loving the characterization of the Lemon People.
[hide]And PB continues to emit uncomfortable vibes. "Yeah, I could help you reclaim your kingdom. But you know, sanctions and rules and stuff. You go do it yourself Lemonhope"[/hide]
-
Yup, that was a great episode all around, but I especially enjoyed the ending. Keep on rockin', Adventure Time…
-
! Well that certainly was… something. I mean, what the fuck?
! First of all, Lemonhope. In Too Old he was very sweet, polite and hoped to get friends. But in this episode he's just as much a spoiled brat as his father, and isn't even interested in being with other people. Did they really just forget his whole characterization from his first episode? :getlost:
! Second of all... Lemongrab. As I've said he is probably my favorite character and I was confused and disappointed how Five Short Graybles and Too Old portrayed him. This is bit of an old news but I just started watching AT so please forgive me! Either way in his first episodes, he was utterly mental, often even dangerous to others and himself, but there was always some sympathy to be felt towards him. You could sense that he just tried to do things the way that made sense to him. Hell, he started getting noticeably nicer towards others once he met Lemongrab 2 and had someone to understand his "lemon styles". In Mystery Dungeon he wasn't nearly as aggressive to other four aside from Ice King, (who to be honest always tries to kidnap his "mother princess" and brought them to that dangerous dungeon in the first place). He did yell at Tree Trunks once, but he apologized for it and many saner people would probably be rather anxious in their situation. (And while he kept calling her "slave" rest of the episode, she technically said it was fine.) He even helped Neptr and Shelby get around and carried former out of the dungeon. A small act, yes but still it wasn't something he had to do anymore, it was just Lemongrab being helpful for someone else. He did try to pillage other kingdoms for food to his children in All Your Fault, but he was still much more polite than in earlier episodes. (Tough you could argue that he was too exhausted to yell.)
! And it all goes downhill in last four episodes he's been in. He was one of the most complex and tragic villains in any kids' shows ever, and they just replaced that with an insane bloated tyrant! I was hoping he could get an explanation on what went on his head and redeem himself, or at least a very tragic death scene where he realized what he had done and apologize of everyone, but instead we got nothing. Hell worse than nothing! He and his brother and some of his sons blew up and Bubblegum just sews him back together from all the excess parts of them. Lemongrab 2, the living proof that original Lemongrab could have been better person is gone. He didn't get an explanation on his actions, he didn't redeem himself and get back to ruling with his brother, he didn't even have a beautiful death scene. They just labeled him nuts, that's it! We don't even know how much there's original Lemongrab's brain on the new one. Or if he even appears ever again. My favorite character… is simply gone. -
The Lemonhope eps had some beautiful setpieces and dream sequences, but the episode didn't really do anything for me.
The most interesting thing was when they saw the flood of treasure flow out of the monster they killed, there looked like there another Ice King crown along with similar looking ones with differently colored gems. Are there more magical crowns out there are are comparable to Ice King's?
-
That was a strong episode. It felt like a satisfying conclusion to Lemongrab's story, albeit very tragic and somewhat in the grey area as far as morality goes. It's kinda sad knowing that Lemongrab and his kingdom were pretty much doomed to exist from that start, and it's interesting. Mainly due to how PB was somewhat sweet enough to help something that was forever born to be sour(because well… She made Lemongrab).
The ending song was beautiful too. Atleast Lemonhope lived a full life.
-
woha… this episode. It was cute and uncomfortable in a way good stories for kids are for an adult. It's astonishing how they managed to tell this quite long story in such a short time.
-
So 1000 years from now the candy kingdom will have become a sprawling metropolis and then wasted away.
-
The Lemongrab storyline lost me a awhile ago. I feel like there's a point I'm missing, mainly why Lemongrab is still in the show when he's lost sympathy episodes ago. I've never liked him, but I can guess what makes him entertaining to some. But he a cannibal tyrant now. I've read somewhere (maybe here even), during "Too Old," that the tragedy comes from Lemongrab's trying to gain PB's acceptance in spite of his personality disorders. I don't feel like this is enough. Maybe I'm a monster for saying this, when you're existence hurts, and sometimes kills, others around you then you need to be put down, especially when peaceful methods have been attempted. What always hurt this story is that there a tons of competent characters that could have stopped Lemongrab at any time, but didn't. Too many elements of this story are forced.
That said, the end segment with Lemonhope was lovely. I've watched it a bunch of times now.
So 1000 years from now the candy kingdom will have become a sprawling metropolis and then wasted away.
That's only assuming he came back at exactly 1000 years. That's not exactly a bad lifespan for a kingdom.
-
It's not but for some reason It surprised me. Like the world went to shit and the current state is AT present but I thought that Bubblegum and all the other magical talking animals and stuff would somehow get it right the second time around. But it turns out they don't.
-
So, Betty gets one episode and this gets two…
It wasn't a good episode. It had nicely animated sequences and great backgrounds, but that's because they assigned a better team to it. The plot itself felt reeeaaaalllyyyy stretched, seems like it could work better as one episode, with some cuts. And, you know, give that once free episode to Betty? Argh.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
EDIT: WELP OKAY THIS IS SUDDENLY A GOOD EPISODE
That last song PB sings? Yeah, we see a 1000 years into the future. We see Finn's treehouse grew all the way to the clouds, we see Ice Kingdom melted and we see that Candy Kingdom got futuristic and also fell...
So, this show throws stuff like this all the time at us. Now, my question is - will we ever get an explanation? Did Ice King defeat the crown and died of old age with Betty? What happened to Finn and Jake? And the most important question - PB and her quest for immortality. She wanted her people to live forever - so why is the city/kingdom in the future abandoned? Did they run off into space? Did PB fail and everyone died?
This is some hard apocalyptic writing there, I'd love for them to deliver answers to all these questions, if it's possible.
-
I was reading some comments on reddit. Mentioned that the candy kingdom in the future looks like a recent battle zone since it lacks overgrown grass and shrubs of a place totally abandoned
-
@Aru:
So, Betty gets one episode and this gets two…
Betty is clearly just the prologue to several more stories still to come, it wasn't just a one off. We'll get more Betty, and Simon… and the fact that it WAS so short was part of what made it touching... that the glimpse of Simon was fleeting.
While this wraps one of the main ongoing stories thats been running the whole season. (And they wrapped Flame Princess/Queen up too a couple episodes back. I'm sure we'll see her again, but her story COULD end there.)
It's a rather silly complaint that they didn't spend more time on one of the few series-long plotlines thats clearly going to get more development yet.
-
@RobbyBevard:

Just because they're going to get back to the whole Betty thing doesn't mean that had to do it this way. The Betty episode was one of the bad ones for me, it felt too unfocused and fast, very chaotic and different. We've always seen Simon as a normal and rather quiet guy, now we had an episode where suddenly he runs all around, doesn't question where he is, pulls out Betty out of the past and she doesn't question a thing. If somebody suddenly pulled me into a world where dogs talk my first thought wouldn't be to fly on a magical carpet but ask why are there people out of candy talking to me and why is there a yellow talking dog.
-
You're like the only one that didn't like that episode.
Besides. Simon was clearly Indiana Jones back in the day. And Betty is clearly an ass kicker as well as we saw on-screen. They presumably had all sorts of crazy adventures and are used to dealing with strange crazy crap and making hasty decisions. (Simon knew he had limited time and pushed it all towards one immediate goal, and vice versa for Betty.) There was no time to question the crazy, buisness had to be done.
Also, while his Ice King time is a blurry mess, and he has no control, he clearly has some idea of what's going on. He knew Finn and Jake, his lair of stuff, and had a plan in mind ready to go.
-
I don't even know how anyone could make it this far in Adventure Time and expect it to have very direct/ exposition heavy and spoonfed storytelling.
-
I didn't care as much about the Betty episode as I thought I would. I agree with Aru that it felt unfocused, but yeah, it's only the beginning of a story.
Lemonhope was great. I like that he had his own "lemony" way of viewing his freedom.
Though, I can't figure out if the stitched up lemongrab is supposed to be both of them frankensteined together, or if Lemongrab 2 escaped? -
Put me down on the "Betty had terrible pacing" list as well.
-
We already got spoiled about Finn but still
-
! it's a shame. If i hadn't been spoiled i would have been so shocked. I notice how adventure time really likes to have it's season finales feel depending on the season. Like all the odd numbered finales are not some big epic, usually one episode and focus on development (i.e. incedium) where as the even numbered finales are very adventure focused and are multiple parts (i.e. the lich trlogy)
Do we have any idea of how long till season 6?
-
!
Dammit, Finn. -

The new season begins April 21
-
Whoa damn. I saw that end coming due to spoiling myself on Season 6, but the little character growth Finn got was pretty cool. Decent finale. Looking forward to what the next season brings.
-
I knew what the ending was because I read The Litch storyboards where they had a blurb about it
