The 4 lead up episodes aired this weekend.
Adventure Time!

-
I remember when this was the show they endlessly hyped and showed constantly, rather than Teen Titans Go. Those were better times.
Of course before that it was Naruto, so….
-
So, over the last few months I've been rewatching Frasier. And after it was all done, I decided, "That was fun. You know what, I should try watching Cheers. It was on when a kid but I never really watched it. It lasted 11 years, it's probably good."
First episode there's a silly 1 minute opening joke. And then the theme song starts.
And I inexplicably feel SAD. And then like 10 seconds into the opening it hits me "oh god, Ice King." And then I just had to pause it and I feel weirdly choked up.
I have never in my life had a reaction like that before. Like, how does that even work. I've certainly heard the Cheers theme before, and its been like five years since the Simon and Marcy episode. I had completely forgotten about it.
And yet in a split second, sudden uncontrollable sadness that I'm sure I didn't even feel when that first aired.
Just… what?

Adventure Time Series Finale trailer is out.
-
The finale is coming Monday, September 3. That's less than two weeks away.
Wow.
-
Well, tonight's the night, the hour long finale. It's been a 9 year journey Adventure Time, nearly 300 episodes. I wasn't quite with you at the start, and I only haphazardly followed you the last couple years, mostly just binging large chunks when I thought to do so… but there was a stretch in the middle there where you were an amazing show and had to be watched and every episode was good, if not great. It has been a ride.
You have also apparently forever altered the Cheers theme for me, so that's a thing.
Can't wait to see how you guys go out. I'm sure it'll be special.
-
Ah, and I'm gonna miss it since I have dinner with my folks. Oh well, that's what streaming/on demand is for.
Incidentally, I've been catching up on season 4 of Bravest Warriors.
-
If anyone needs a refresher on comets, humans, magic alien dogs, elder litches (lichii?)
I wish that they would have gone over the league of evil members, I remember Ricardio, the evil cat, the pacifier and Marci's ex, but the rest I'm drawing blanks.
-
I was hoping I would rewatch everything before the final episodes, but we got to the day and I still didn't even finished first season. I think I will give that video a try.
-
! Holy shit. Adventure Time has been essentially over for a while now, but man did it sucker punch my emotions just to see it end.
! I'll need to rewatch for some more specific comments, but the easy standouts that everyone should talk about are: HOLY SHIT THEY DID THE GAY and HOLY SHIT THE ENTIRETY OF THAT GOLB SEQUENCE.
! Shit, though, there's so much here to comb through and I'm going to rewatch it twelve times in a row. -
That was a great way to end of the series.
! I like that every major characters and reccuring characters got a chance to shine a bit in the finale. I tear up a bit during the scene when Ice King finally back to normal as Simon. I also thought the scene with Lemongrab and LSP was nice. I didn't expect the Marcy and PB moment to happend. The closing song montage of showing what all of the characters doing after the war was nice way to end the show.
-
Anyone has a link? Kimcartoon hasn't uploaded it..
-
It just finished airing an hour ago, so it'll probably take some time to make its rounds on the net.
-
Man…that was great. So many memories...I need to watch all the episodes I missed at some point. And all the ones I didn't, too.
! I hope you find a way to dark magic yourself back to normal, PepButts. Maybe Death can help with that. Oh, and all hail King BMO.
-
Jolly good show. Really a J O L L Y G O O D.
-
So much detail and love. Good ending.
! About the vault scene:
! I get the Lich, because duh.
I get PB because he's managing the crush and her dictatorial tendencies
I'm guessing that the weird hairy thing is Martin the asshole, perfectly reasonable, It also kind of looks like the grass thing or the grass wizard
But Susan? Why? Is it because of a memory of Fern's? -
That was a solid ending. Lots of loose ends still because they were never going to tie up everything (most prominently the multiverse Lich) but it did everything it needed to do.
! For all that Ice King/Simon was one of THE major through lines of the entire series, fixing him seemed like kind of an afterthought. ANd they still have an ice king anyway.
! Similarly, after going through all the trouble of setting up a gathering of all the old villains, and Uncle Gumbald for the last 20 episodes that all just… got sorta glossed over too. Inevitable in that amount of time when you're trying to do it all in 4 episodes... but they had 300. There's surely something along the way that could have given way to make space for the finale. But maybe that's just within the normal chaos nature of the show and wrapping things up suddenly.
Gonna have to watch that last couple minute about 80 times to really see all they crammed in there. Or read the articles that go up disecting it. But that's really the only kind of end you can do for a series like this. Everyone lived and continued to have lives after, fill in the blanks yourself.
! I like that they used the end credits song for... the ending. Ironically, Cartoon Network almost never actually plays those credits without muting it and moving it to the corner of the screen to play an ad so its possible this will be the first time some viewers actually hear it if they don't have the dvds.
! ...And everything else is just going to be overshadowed by Marcy and PB hooking up, isn't it? That's going to be the thing plastered all over facebook tomorrow. So much detail and love. Good ending.
! But Susan? Why? Is it because of a memory of Fern's?
Possibly the in-general events involving humans and the Islands miniseries.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
And going back to this post from December, when they still had 12 episodes to go....
! Remaining big plot threads from reddit
! 1- The Rising: For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, the Rising is an unknown event the Grass Demon hums about at the end of Two Swords. Given how prominent Fern and the Emissary from Beyond were, though, it's extremely likely this will be addressed during or after the Gumbald plot line.
Close enough. Check.
! 2- The Lich: Following the events of Crossover, there is a Lich hand in every single dimension of the multi-world; not only that, but those hands are revealed in Whispers to be sentient, autonomous, and fully intentioned to spread destruction. Given that the Lich's hand in Whispers wa dealt with rather quickly (in 1 episode), this is one of the points I'm afraid will not be solved by the end of the series, possibly because of time constraints (the multiplication of the Lich's hand in Crossover was quite explicit, which suggests the writers might have hoped to be able to use it in the future).
Still open.
! 3- Jake's interdimensional dad: I'm not too sold on how quickly Jake went back to his yellow form, but that aside, we still know nothing about the demon that impregnated Joshua, or the dimension it comes from. I could understand if, due to the relatively few episodes left, the writers chose to close that chapter with Jake's acceptance of his new form and ignorance about his origins… but I do hope he and we'll find out more.
Check.
4- Magic Woman/Betty: This might be considered minor, but I do hope we'll find out what happened to her after the Elements miniseries. When we last saw her, she seemed as though she was about to stand trial at the hands of Normal Man.
Check.
5- Ice King: Possibly connected to the Betty storyline, and maybe even necessary to address from a narrative point of view (though not, I would say, from an emotional one), is the matter of what will be of Simon in the future. Will he remain what he is now? Will he turn into the abomination we saw in Graybles 1000+?
Check.
6- Fionna and Cake's universe: Probably the least relevant of the loose ends in this thread, and one that some might say was already tied up by the end of Fionna and Cake and Fionna with a comedic twist… but after all that meta, I really want to know what the heck Fionna and Cake are, and why they are beamed into Ice King's melonheart while he sleeps.
Eh, handled in the joke episode even if Ice King seeing them so clearly was never really covered. Check-ish.
7- Martin's fate: I was wrong, this is the least relevant point on the list. Following the events of The Comet, he was turned into a deity, whatever that may imply, and disappeared. We never saw him since, despite his being mentioned from time to time. I wouldn't mind learning more about his plane of existence. Also, it would not suck to discover what Martin's cosmic crime was (Sarcastic_Username18).
Dealt with in the comet. Check-ish.
8- GOLB: Oh. My. Glob. This is what I want to know about the most, and by far. GOLB has always been present in the lore of Adventure Time, ever since Puhoy. Its malevolence and absolute powers, which exceed even Grob Gob Glob Grod's, were heavily implied in You Forgot Your Floaties. This might all be subsumed under the label of mere lore if it weren't for what the Lich declares in Whispers, a moment that still gives me the chills:
I am a ceaseless wheel. I am the last scholar of GOLB.
Holy smokes. Are we to see the Lich, someone even Death is afraid of, as a mere apprentice? And what does it mean now that there is a part of the Lich in every dimension? Could The Rising have anything to do with GLOB?
Check.
9- Maja the Sky Witch and APTWE (Leusid): After the elephant started taking care of comatose Maja, they have made at least one other appearance in the show, and it would be a little odd if they just disappeared like that.
Check.
10- Prismo's boss (gvonc33): In Crossover, Prismo states - and emphasizes - he has a boss, whose identity is still unknown. Odd I forgot, since I completely freaked out at the time.
Sort of in the montagey stuff, but not really. Don't consider it that big a deal. That's more of a reddit loose end than a major plot.
11- Dr. Gross and Tiffany (Sarcastic_Username18): I had completely forgotten about them. We all know dying offscreen does not count as dying.
Eh, dead I guess. Check.
12- Nightmare Juice: The potion Nightmare Princess gives Finn in The Orb. If I recall correctly, it hasn't been used yet.
Major plot point for the second episode. Check.
13- Is this the end of this world, which I chose among all others: this, or something to that effect, is the line LSP utters when she sees the candified and firified inhabitants of Ooo fight each other. Does that mean that the Lumpy Space is a dimension through which every timeline and universe can be accessed?
Eh, LSP hooked up with Lemongrab. Close enough? Check-ish.@me:
Yeah, that's a lot. No way we're getting all of that at this point.
They actually did pretty good, all things considered. Some of those are just world building minitua that I never would have included on a "must be adressed before the end' list. All in all they did pretty good.
-
:~
! LSP and Lemongrab scene gotta be my favorite moment of the finale along with the APTWE "I heard there was a war", but I liked everything (with the exception of the Villain Alliance being a complete red herring. I was hyped for Ricardio). Glad Simon's recovery only came at the finale se we could have Ice King as long as possibly possible (and kinda still have him… in a way).
Having BMO be the one link to the past was really good.
! And mandatory comment: good they had the courage to not keep the PBxMarceline romance always just "alluded" (although I have to admit in this case in particular I always preferred to think of them as friends. Sorta like how I preferred Ichigo and Rukia not ending together, like the lack of romantic feelings somehow actually made their bond seem stronger). -
So much detail and love.
But Susan? Why? Is it because of a memory of Fern's?! It might be tied to how Susan activated and went banaynays on that episode that introed Fern. Didn't he think he killed her?
-
Ok, so I'm finally watching this, just finished Season 1… series finale seems a good time to start lol, now I can just watch it all without any waiting for new eps lol.
Enjoying it so far :)
-
Well, although the hype for Adventure Time has long since faded down, that was a real great finale.
! With an exception of a few, I've only ever seen each episode once, so I know there's a number of things I forgot about and went over my head, but that's why I look forward to rewatching this series some day all the more. But overall, the finale was pretty much what I expected. Not every mystery is gonna be solved and lot of characters and plotlines are going to be left open, but they still addressed and resolved enough for it to be mostly satisfying.
! Just a pity that after all he's gone through, Simon just can't get a 100% happy ending, but I guess that's just how it goes.
! And I guess that's it for Adventure Time unless that movie ever gets off the ground. Or until they do a remake in ten years with a totally different tone and art style that everyone gets pissed about. -
That finale was perfect, everything I hoped for. It's always a great feeling to see a long running series nail a satisfying ending. Can't wait / hope a complete collection blu-ray set gets announced, this is a show worth watching again and again
-
Best Cartoon Network original show?
-

The comics are going to keep on going and do "season 11", apparently.

-
Space Ghost Coast to Coast/Cartoon Planet. Almost purely based on the fact they had 0 budget and that was a time in the network's life where they could do anything the hell they wanted because they had nothing and mostly reran old cartoons from the HB library.
Back when they would air some variant of Scooby Doo four times a day, Thundercats was the most expensive thing they could afford on Toonami, Captain Planet filled their government educational requirement at 5 in the morning, and they were airing 1972's Wait Till Your Father Gets Home for the sake of filling up a slot.
-
So is Gunther female or not?
-
Video about some of the easter eggs and tie ins.
!
-
-
That's a spoiler? I thought they'd been showing that in the previews and recaps. But okay.
-
So Adventure Time ended…
I followed Finn's and Jake's adventures from the beginning and I am satisfied with the finale.
It was a great series, an unique feeling from Pendelton Ward. For me it's 9/10.
And for the last time:
What time is it?
ADVENTURE TIME! :) -
@ubiq and robby:
Both are good choices.
That’d be a fun list, top (X) Cartoon Network original shows.
-
-
I guess THE gunther had to be female as she layed an egg.
-
So, seeing as how I fell off this thing years ago, and since it ended recently: Was there ever any sort of recockning for Princess Bubblegums callous, oftentimes despotic tendencies? The moral compass of the show always weirded me out, but PB specifically was a contributing factor to my tapping out (right around the time where she instigated an environmental disaster in the Fire Kingdom in order to covertly neutralize their military defenses)

Not really…I guess. My memory's kinda hazy, but I think that episode was really the only one that indicated she did mellow out with that stuff (unplugging the surveillance cameras at the end), and I don't think we saw anything particularly horrible from her afterwards.
-
Did you forget the king of ooo arc? She was defeated in elections, and had to chill out for a while.

Yes, a large chunk of the final season was dealing with repercussions of her past catching up to her, (short version, her Uncle came back and took over as king after she had screwed him over forever ago) and she had to stop doing what she was doing and think at length about her life and what she'd been doing.
She didn't particularly suffer for anything she did, but she did pay a bit and realize she'd done wrong and fixed it.

So there's this
https://tvline.com/2019/10/23/adventure-time-new-episodes-distant-lands-hbo-max/
4 Hour Long New Adventure Time Specials on HBO Max next year. Here are the summaries:“BMO”| “When there’s a deadly space emergency in the farthest reaches of the galaxy, there’s only one hero to call, and it’s probably not BMO. Except that this time it is!”
“Obsidian” | “Marceline and Princess Bubblegum journey to the imposing, beautiful Glass Kingdom — and deep into their tumultuous past — to prevent an earthshaking catastrophe.”
“Wizard City” | “Peppermint Butler starts over at the beginning, as just another inexperienced Wizard School student. When mysterious events at the campus cast suspicion on Pep, and his checkered past, can he master the mystic arts in time to prove his innocence?”
“Together Again” | “Finn and Jake [reunite] to rediscover their brotherly bond and embark on the most important adventure of their lives.”
-
Cool. I'm up for some more AT. Guess we're never getting that movie though.
-
This sounds like the closest thing to a movie. Better to have 4 disconnected stories as longer episodes than just a big narrative that tries to intermingle them.
Think of it like one last big grabyle.
-
The first episode of Distant Lands is out now! I watched it earlier today and it is really good. The story isn't really about BMO and more about the place where he ends up, but it is a really cool story with gorgeous art, animation and concepts all over that fills out its runtime really well. Plus it can be watched without any knowledge of Adventure Time, if you're worried you aren't caught up enough for it. I am really excited for the remaining ones!
-
I didn't even knew this was a thing, so thank you for the heads-up.
And, damn, this was really good! BMO at its absolute best.
-
Quite surprised, this is only the third or fourth BMO episode I liked. And for Glob's sake Martin found someone as much as a scumbag as he.
-
Obsidian drops November 19th
-
Obsidian is out.
Wow! PBs and Marcie are a really cute couple. The Glass people are douches, and they are doubling in make Finn the butt end of the jokes ain't they. Like we went from this:
[hide] [/hide]
to this
[hide] [/hide] -
I dunno, he seems happy and healthy, that is a win after his chilhood. Hell, even taking the arm into consideration is still a fair deal.
-

Oh okay, if you take that into account yes, that's a win for my boy Finn. Still wished for pillow world Finn to be true.
-
Pretty solid special.
! I really appreciated Marceline's "do I really sound like that" moment. The trailer leading to this havimg the line " the place where I was hurt the most" (without contect) made me roll my eyes back into my skull. Thankfully both scenarios played out better.
! Was Finn hooking up with one of Jake's kids? If so thats…thats kinda offputting
