Any fans of this music out there? I'm really into Dream Theater, Rush, Yes, and Symphony X. I just discovered this new prog band called "Edensong."
There debut album is amazing. Please check it out!
Looking for fans of Prog rock

And no, I'm not a spambot. I am another One Piece loving fool who is eagerly awaiting Chpt. 528. I am seriously looking for other people who want to talk about progressive rock / metal. Plus this new rock band that I found is some of the best stuff I've heard in a while. Any Jethro Tull fans out there?

progressive rock / metal
rock / metal
metalno.

I am glad you responded Moria, even though you are not interested in any of the above genres. What kind of music do you like then?
-
Indie/Folk.
Generally classified as Hipster Garbage.
-
This guy sounds too robotic/proper to be an anime fan.
I like to be erudite once in a while, but who the uses phrases like, "I'm glad you responded" and "the above genres?"
Sounds like an advanced music research/promotion technique.

I don't really know who Arizona or Amy Ray is. Not crazy about Band of Horses either.
I listen to different types of Indie/Folk.
-
Yeah, I don't really like Band of Horses either.
-
I like King Crimson.
-
King Crimson is sweet. Arguably the founders of progressive rock. Court of the Mofo Crimson King. 20th Century Schizhoid man. Awesome stuff
-
It came up today in World Geography that my teacher and I are the only two people in the class who know who Geddy Lee is.
So, I guess you could say I like Rush.
-
My all-time fave is Yes.
Chris Squire rocks! -
That's awesome that Geddy Lee came up in your class. what is your fav Rush album?
Yes is incredible. My favorite song by them is probably "Heart of the Sunrise."
Seen both of these bands live. Amazing spiritual experiences.
-

Yeah, my teacher was talking about how John Locke looked like Geddy Lee, and everyone was like, wut?
Anyway, I like Moving Pictures.
'tis a classic. -
Haha! That is hilarious! I never saw the connection between those two. I'll have to look again.
Yes, moving pictures, Tom Sawyer, Limelight, YYZ, so many delights.
-
Logia, have you seen Yes live?
Anywhere here ever heard of the band Gentle Giant? -
Logia, have you seen Yes live?
Anywhere here ever heard of the band Gentle Giant?I will see them live in about one month
-
Sweet! Where are you gonna see them? Are they still playing with Rick Wakeman?
-
raises hand Me! Yes is my favorite band and I've seen them 15 times live, every tour since 1997 until this year, since I just couldn't get motivated to see them without Jon.
I also like ELP, King Crimson, Porcupine Tree, old Genesis, and Marillion. Actually Marillion is my favorite of the moment, I've been just listening to them non-stop over the past couple of months, although not all their stuff is prog per se.

Sweet Comsic! You are a true prog fan. How about Jethro Tull?
-
hmmmm, I like Jethro Tull, but I never really got into them a whole lot, other than some of their more popular songs. There's some other stuff I've listened to before like Mahavishnu Orchestra, Happy the Man, and Camel, but they were easily forgotten about over time. A more obscure band that I saw live once and really liked was Deadwood Forest; but the broke up. Love the CD though.
-
Camel is sweet. I'll check out Deadwood Forest soon.
-
On Broadway this season…Wicked! Starring Geddy Lee.
-
I'd buy a ticket to that.
-
I saw that Wicked show. Geddy was amazing. I heard Rush is releasing a Retrospectives III CD!
-
Did you really? Tell me about it! Always wanted to hear him sing "Popular".
-
Anyone know Gentle Giant?
-
I know of them, yes.
-
Long Live TOOL!!! Maynard is the master! Yes I love Progressive Rock, along with many other alternative rock bands and sub-genres.
-
Is Tool still playing or have they disbanded?
-
They're still playing, they're supposed to come out with a new album later on this year.

Dude…you're done. Quit the spam.
-
I'm just a HUGE fan. I'm not in the band. No one has even made a comment about them.
-
Being a huge fan isn't an excuse to post the same link over and over again in different threads, on the same page in one thread, and sending pms with the same link…that is spamming and it is annoying.
-
No one mentioned Porcupine Tree here? Steven Wilson is a genious!
I prefer "modern" bands in this genre. Other favourites are Ayreon, Symphony X and Dream Theater.
But you really can't define that because so many bands in this genre are 30 years or older
I also like Queensryche, Kansas, Pink Floyd. Never got much into Rush, Tool or Yes. Don't know how. There's not much difference but somehow I don't like them that much -
You are right Cosmic. I'll stop. But, let's keep the thread because a bunch of people here seem interested in progressive rock.
Behemoth. I do like Porcupine Tree. They are one of the best modern prog bands out there. I'm still waiting for Symphony X to come to Japan (I live in Japan). They haven't been here for YEARS! I only like old Dream Theater stuff. I thought Jordan Rudess kind of ruined the band. Images and Words, Awake, and Change of Seasons are their best stuff.
I haven't heard enough Ayreon to pass judgement on him. But, I think it's cool how he uses a ton of different prog musicians. I think that once he invites you to play for him, especially the voalists, you know you've made some kind of impact on the progressive rock world.
Kansas is one of my favorite bands. A lot of people who know Kansas only know DUST IN THE WIND and CARRY ON MY WAYWARD SON, but as you know Behemoth, Kansas has a ton of other great music. My favorite albums by them are probably Leftoverture and Point of No Return. Great stuff. They still play too.
That's all for now.
-
FF6 Ultros do you actually read one piece
you basically ONLY post in this thread and that's it -
I have read all of One Piece in both Japanese and English. I've seen all of the anime episodes. One Piece is one of my hobbies, haha. I mainly use this site just to check spoilers. Currently waiting for 531. When the v2. manga site was up, I used to post a lot on there. I guess I saw that media forum one day and decided to talk about prog. Yeah, that's my story.
-

I did…I love PT. I saw them live a few years back and I own a few CDs, namely Deadwing, Fear of a Blank Planet, In Abstentia, and some older stuff...I can't get into the really old stuff though.
You might like some newer Marillion, looking at your taste in music.
A long time ago I downloaded a song called "Shifting Sands" by a band called Strangefish, but I could never get the whole CD. They sounded very promising though. Unfortunately, when I searched for their website, I found that they have disbanded. I might try and find the CD anyway. -
Yeah. Completely forgot about Marillion
Came across them through Ayreon's Into The Electric Castle. Fish has a small role on it and his singing blew me away! -
I dig the Fish era stuff, but I admit I'm more of an h (Steve Hogarth) era fan. Some of the earlier albums are kind of poppish but they have come full circle into some fantastic progressive stuff, without trying to fit in with the prog mold. Their latest CD Happiness is the Road might even be my favorite.
-
Ever heard of an artist named Phideux? He sang on one of Ayreon's CDs. His music is kind of pink flyodish. Lots of good solid melodies but quite dark sounding at times.
Marillions good. I've seen them live.
-
DID SOMEONE SAY SYMPHONY X AND AYREON!??
…yeah I do love my prog
-
Have you seen Symphony X live? By the way, I still can't get over how your name is Sympathy X and you have a real One Piece tattoo. I think I'm going to have to meet you someday.
-
Dream Theater - Metropolis Part 1, one of my fav. songs of all time.
-
I should have come to the media forum sooner. Im a big prog rock fan. Not as big as some I know, but I love the genre.
Frank Zappa
Yes
Genesis
Camel
Caravan
King Crimson
Atomic Rooster
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Gentle Giant
Van Der Graaf Generator
Gong
The Moody Blues
Porcupine Tree
Opeth
Amaseffer
HawkwindAll great bands. I want to get out to NEARfest in the beginning of the summer, since the lineup so far looks pretty awesome.
-
One of these days I'd like to go to Nearfest…unfortunately it's just not very "near" to me.
We used to have a Prog West over here but I don't think there has been one for a couple of years.
Too bad there aren't too many live performances for this song...for that matter many decent sound recordings of it
