I wanted to see what people thought what qualities the next crew member should have, as opposed to discussing who it should be.

Personally the only position I can think of that hasn't been taken is Lookout, and Helmsman. But Zoro usually occupies the crows nest, and Franky is the one who usually controls every part of Sunny. There's Brigmaster too, but I don't think Sunny has a brig.

I always thought it was weird that the 3 strongest crewmates were in the original 5 from a weak part of the Blue seas. So i was hoping that the next crew member would be strong enough to be able to take on Luffy.

as for positions left on the crew.. i thought of a assistant for chopper, like a nurse or something, but i think it wont happen. or maybe a tailor who can sew Sails,clothes,Etc.
or Unless the next position becomes random XD

The Straw Hats need a still, to satisfy Zoro's physical addiction to alcohol. A small hydroponic setup might be a good investment too, based on Luffy's recreational use of hallucinogenic cacti and shrooms.

Hmm how about for the next crewmember as a twist they have an ex marine join. He ends up having been an expert spy for the marines. He could be a good asset to the strawhats and could spy for them and give them valuable information.

The straw hats need one of the following:

Dancer (Mr. 2 please!!)
Therapist (Not the stereotypical kind, I am talking about a hypocritical kind of therapist character.)
Fishman (Hachi please!! Also note that every good chef could always use an extra pair of hands, or three.)
A Priest/Religious fanatic (I just want to see Zoro fight against a fellow crewmember that isn't Sanji for once.)
An author of sorts (Carth Squair for Nakama!)
A professional fisherman/hunter (couldn't hurt.)

Those are just my thoughts. Some for lols, some not.

I still think someone to swab the "poop" deck or just a flat out cleaner. They do make a bit of a mess when they have those parties. Maybe someone who's a cleansing freak.

An expert in oceanology(An expert of the Grandline and the islands and animal life found)

A booze-maker(he/she'd be best mates with Zoro)

A professional cleaner(he/she'd be best mates with Nami)

A woman for the Captain (like Hancock:ninja:)

Um why not a gaurd who'll stay by and look after the Thousand Sunny while the others go exploring islands and any other time the ship is left alone? For a twist make it where he ate a devil fruit that permanently fuses two beings into one taking the form of the physically stronger of the two. He and his brother would be fused and his brother could be an author who keeps the Straw hats adventures documented. I ate the fuse fuse fruit. Plus his brother could come up with stratagies while his brother fights.

Plus Sanji could make fun of him by threatening to turn him into sushi or some sort of fish dish. It could be a running gag for the series.
