New Show A-Go-Go! (Funimation's 10 Day New Year Anime Dubs)

Funimation has announced that from dec.22 till new years, funimation will be announcing one new anime title that will be coming soon.

Here are the announcements thus far:

12/22: Ikki Tousen
12/23: Gad Guard
12/24: Vandread
12/25: Nabari No Ou
12/26: Last Exile
12/27: Oh! Edo Rocket
12/28: Count of Monte Cristo
12/29: Slayers Revolution
12/30: Gungrave
12/31: Samurai Champloo
12/31: Soul Eater
12/31: Neon Genesis Evangelion 1.01

And thats it folks (or is it?)

Most of the list is either meh or stuff that's already been out, but I'm rather happy about Slayers Revoultion, especially if they can get the VA's back(though I doubt this). As for the last two slots, Soul Eater & Reborn possibly. Personally I'm hoping for Gintama.

Oh! Edo Rocket is one of my favorite series and I'm incredibly excited about it getting licensed. You bet your ass I'm going to be buying the hell out of any OER related releases, much like when they licensed Mushishi.

That's the only one I'm personally super excited about, but I hear that Count of Monte Cristo and Gad Guard are pretty good.

What the… I was under the impression that Last Exile had already been dubbed by Geneon sometime in 2004... Actually, I'm sure of it, because the subs I watched had Englisg credits, with voice actors and all.

I think it's probably Soul Eater and Reborn for the last 2. Viewtiful Joe doesn't strike me as a likely announcement (Unless they're bringing Tatsunoko vs. Capcom over here too, because the series somewhat relies on the games.) and Gintama wasn't Cease and Desisted at Rumble while Soul Eater and Reborn were. (Along with D.Gray Man but that isn't a choice here.)

It won't be a redub since it's an all-new movie (which is actually a remake of something we've seen already, to a tee) that hasn't even been dubbed into English in the first place. I'm sure FUNimation will preserve as much of the original cast as they possibly can.

Funimation is going to be working with ADV to dub rebuild, from what I've heard.

Well it says (on Wiki at least), that Spike Spencer and Tiffany Grant (Shinji and Asuka) said that they wouldn't mind reprising their roles, though they do go on to say that since Neon Genesis Evangelion was dubbed nearly a decade ago, that it will probably be impossible to fully reunite the cast.

Well Monte Cristo is okay but the ending or rather the last episode featuring the Count is kind of rough.

I'm disappointed Ikki Tousen is on that list, since I consider that to be mostly crap and porn. I mean, it's not like I can hate a company for dubbing a show I don't like, but I just don't like the idea of certain Funi voice actors playing these characters. Especially that damn blone lead character.

Ikki Tousen's already been dubbed so that won't be a problem here. Show's they have acquired from Geneon are just redistributed instead of redubbed.

Edit: It would seem as though the second to last series is Gungrave.

I've been told Oh! Edo Rocket (which I've seen) is very similar to Gintama.

Of course, that also makes me ask WHY? It's as tough a show to localize as Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei. Along with Shikibame Hime, it makes me think FUNimation realized it screwed up failing to get Gurren-Lagann and is striving to get "-like" shows, suggesting Kotetsushin Jeeg will be licensed as well.

As we saw with the companies who failed to get Haruhi, "-like" shows are a weak substitute. FUNimation should be blaming itself for letting GL slip into the hands of an incompetent group like Bandai/BZE with deep pockets rather than trying to license cheaper products with less marketability.

Tell me about it. I'm currently waiting for my second set of replacement Gurran Lagann dvd discs. Bandai have problems on a lot of fronts.

Got to say though… the three episodes that barely worked on only one of my dvd players didn't exactly clue me in as to what all the hype was about. Hopefully it gets better.

I do feel Gintama has a fair chance. I wouldn't have thought it would translate at all well, but the viz graphic novels have me laughing as much as with yakitate.

FUNimation didn't "fail" to get "Gurren Lagann" and let it slip through per say. All those former ADV titles were acquired through Sojitz/ARM, except for "Gurren Lagann". Aniplex took it back, probably because they didn't want to keep fans waiting and as we know, Bandai is more willing to put out sub-only DVDs than FUNimation. FUNimation has enough on their plate and I doubt they care that much about one popular show. I doubt "Jeeg" will come out in America, there's not enough fan demand. Companies that work in anime localization go after shows that have a lot of fan demand, not shows that aren't particularly but are similar to popular shows.

I've never been so disappointed in my life. The last show is Samurai Champloo. This new show thing was a joke. 77% of their announcements were rereleases of shows that were already released properly in both singles and full series box sets. I was hoping for some law of ueki, Reborn!, or Soul Eater.

The people on AnimeOnDVD's forums believe it to be a reference to that new Evangelion-movie. Of course, being one of the few people left on Earth who haven't watched that series, I can't say for sure.

But seriously, no Soul Eater? I'm disappointed, especially seeing how one of the hints they gave seemed like it couldn't possibly be referring to anything else.

Well, just in case someone here didn't already know about it, FUNi uploaded some post-cards which had the title of a show hidden in them, and this one:

seemed to be referring to Soul Eater. I can't see anything else it could possibly be referring to.

Angie, Eli and you can make it"-card could possibly be referring to anything else. But they're not denying the possibility of multiple licenses, so I suppose there is still hope for Soul Eater to be licensed.

Geneon/Pioneer had previously licensed it, but their american operations collapsed last year. Funi have been picking up some of their more popular titles.

Samurai Champloo will NOT be re-dubbed, it will be the same Geneon dub, Only different dvd packaging and it will be under funimations licencse.

I'm still holding out for a Weekly Shonen Jump anime to be licensed. Desperatley want Gintama, could be OK with Reborn, but I suppose I could be content with their D. Gray-Man aquisition.
