which is cooler? a ninja or a pirate? your reason.
example of a ninja is naruto and for pirate is one piece. could not think of other anime.

I think there are not many other example of pirates, that is also why One Piece rocks. Ninja theme can be very cool too though (not naruto!). Like the manga and anime of basilisk or samurai deeper kyo or samurai champloo and although the last 2 carry the name samurai, I find them to be more ninja-based. . . -

Anyhow, of the two, I personally prefer vikings. :X Pirates seem great but unless you give them mystical powers they seem firmly ground in the realm of historical fiction. Even the Monkey Island pirates had dashes of modern neuroticism and spoiling to give them spice.
I don't know about "ninjas in popular culture", having never seen any ninja media except for Naruto which is hardly what purported all those stereotypes in the 1980's. Oh, I saw the turtles (new one) but that isn't really consistent with the stereotypes..

well "dude" I know "dude" but as I was saying, they use samurai's in these manga/anime as ninja's. Don't think I am so ingnorant that I do not know the difference between them
And I know of 2 comics (not manga) that handle the pirate theme: Long John Silver and Dragon's blood and the first of those 2 does not give pirates any weird type of powers, they just show them as the scum they are. Of course those powers could still come seeing I only have read the first 2 comics and there are 4 expected so. . .

Guess i'll play along… I'd say Pirates... but then again there are many more forms of ninja. Like robot ninjas and samurai-dude ninjas.
weeelll.. but there is a higher abundance of zombie pirates.
hard to say.. cause a group of pillaging ninjas that sailed the seas on a big.... ummm secret, would kick the ass of most new presidents.
but i suppose the question is just "Ninja or pirate" so i'd have to go with a pirate, because a single ninja's lifespan is much shorter and thus uncooler than a pirate's.
You see.. most ninja were basically trained for the purpose of secrecy and a single, important mission.. sooooo.. they fail the mission= dead.
they succeed, they'd most likely have to kill themselves to maintain secrecy= dead.
now a pirate could literally die at any moment from like a wave or an awesome disease.. but they DIDN'T want to die... at all. And were probably a lot more fun to hang out with.
you don't see many alcohol brands that are made after ninjas right? no... cause they would probably kill you

You know what I mean. Done all awesomely and ninja-ish with ninja magic and shit. That hook fucker from Ninja Scroll is probably the closest thing I could compare my ideal ninja to. But still, I've yet to see any media that meets my expectations for what a ninja is/can do.

I voted for pirate because to me it would be fun to travel across the seas and looking for treasure. Also, I like the idea of sky pirates even though they never existed in real life.

I agree with Greg. The image in my head of a ninja vs a pirate; the ninja wins IMO. Design, style, actions, abilities, personality, etc are all more appealing to me. However, since I read the first post and then voted, I chose pirates. Simply because he compared Naruto to One Piece. Yeah…

This awful topic is awful in the realm of awfulness. Ah well I am awful to so I will answer. Typically a person has to train to be a average ninja while anyone can go around being an average pirate. But because I think the OP world could own the Naruto world my vote goes with pirate. But then again cowboy (which isn't a choice) trumps all. Vash the Stampede, Spike, and Chuck Norris could own the lot of em.
