They already have, in the bath chapter. They are gag characters, thought.
I forgot about that but I meant as warriors. I know their intro was for laughs but their strength in the bath scene was for real.
Throughout this month, we will be testing new features (like search) so you may experience some hiccups from time to time. We'll try to not be too disruptive...

For some reason, I find hard to believe they'll appear as warriors. I'm not even sure they'll ever show up again in the manga. When was the last time we saw Hedoro?

Man, if there's one thing I've noticed these latest chapters is that Gintama is much better than Naruto and Bleach, especially at fight choreography.

When Takasugi asked Gintoki to take care of Shoyou, he asked him back to stay alive. Takasugi kept his promise but not Gintoki. Here we have the origins of Takasugi's hatred and desire for revenge. And all of that was described masterly in pure epicness! In the art of storytelling and flashbacks, the gorilla can even surpass Oda when he wants! I can't wait for the next chapter!

I thought Gintama was known for it's comedy and action not storytelling .

Even if the comedy is good, in my opinion, Sorachi shines in the serious arcs.
He's a beast. A gorilla, to be more precise. -
Was their sensei a Yato? I know he is missing the umbrella, but it would be kind of interesting if the teacher of Gintoki, Katsura and Takasugi was an alien while they grew up fighting aliens to free japan. I wonder if that sensei died or if he just got deported from earth due some reason. If he was still alive that surely would make a development in the relationship between Gintoki and Takasugi.
I loved their fight, no skill telling, no skill name shouting, just hack and slash and kicks and hits and so much hatred and despise coupled with bloodlust and battledesire for each other, it was glorious!
And in all that bloody highly emotional fight we suddenly get a cut, a calm and slow flashback to their former lives as kids and how they ended up as students of the same teacher. I cannot wait to see more of the person that has influenced their lives the most! -
Well Gintama is mainly a comic manga, but almost all the serious arcs were amazing. When it comes to battles it's always epic, (Benizakura, Yoshiwara, the Four Divas etc…) And when it comes to sad arcs, it is always tearful (Okita's sister death was surely one of the saddest stories I ever saw and it was even greater in the anime). Sorachi is different from all other mangaka because he never makes plots about good hero fighting the villain and save the world. His stories are always about redemption. Even when Gintoki fights he always tries to redeem his ennemie and protects everyone (even Housen redeemed before dying). Also he doesn't hesitate to kill charachters when needed, making the drama even more touching.

That's what I'm thinking, as well. But man, this flashback was so well done together with the fight.
I really hope we get to see it animated.

! I won't be so sure. In the benizakura arc, it already happened that Gintoki lost against Nizou the blind assassin and that was only Takasugi's underling… Maybe Takasugi did take even greater damage, but one thing is sure, for the moment, he's winning (won?) the battle...

And the guy talking doesn't look like he's one of them (notice the hat and clothes), and, although this might be a stretch, knowing that those people are affiliated to the Tendoshu it's safe to assume that it's Housen since the Harusame had already worked with sada sada's Bakufu directly.
His wardrobe is like Mustsu's.

Thought at first that it's the same guy who ran the Rengokukan(ch44). Robe is different but the hat and hair seem the same. Maybe not though.
Really really really hope this is getting animated soon enough. Sorachi just keeps outdoing himself.

Holy damn, I can't believe it was Gintoki who ended their sensei's life. He did it for his promise with said teacher, but still…that is really hardcore. Takasugi's hatred seems very justified now though it is weird how we see all thre of them still together (and not at each other's throats) with their Sensei's head on a blanket, their dead classmates before them in the valley.
This makes me wonder though: Who was the old guy? The Sensei of their Sensei?

I'm shoked this chapter was really a surprise. So Gintoki was the "bad guy" since the beginning! No wonder Takasugi went crazy! However I don't understand how Zura forgave him. Sorachi is getting better and better! Now nobody can expect what will happen next!

All, all… all my feels were crushed into a pulp at the end of the chapter. I see Gintoki in a new light now. I always thought he was a mad dog before the teach died and mellowed out after but damn. Sorachi has been absolutely brilliant this arc.

It's incredible how the whole manga has a different meaning now. I just remembered Jiraia arc, when he wanted Tsukuyo to kill him. One teacher making his pupil kill him… Gintoki's anger back then is finally fully explained.

After this chapter I kind of feel like rereading the entire Gintama manga and always keep in mind while reading what Gintoki had done in the past to whatever he says and does back then. Dang, a lotta stuff he said or which got said about him feel far more heavy than before.

Did we assist at the beginning of Takasugi's redeeming? In all case this arc has been more and more amazing till now. Gintoki will try to save Takasugi now I guess, making him a joui again. Maybe Zura or the Mimiwaragumi will have to appear now, since all big shots are about to die (Gin, Shinsuke, Kamui, Zenzou, Sachan etc…)

! Tendoshu… they're the perfect commun ennemy now, but there is a lot of things I don't understand... Why did they protect Hitotsubashi and are they against Takasugi? Aren't they allies?
By the way, I just remembered OVA2, there is a scene with Gintoki and Shinsuke fighting a Tendoshu, is it a real fact or a lie? I think it's directly connected to the actual arc... -

This is hands down, the GOAT serious arc that Sorachi has ever done imo. That cigarette lighter "heart-warming" moment with Okita/Hijikata and Gintoki's Jump made this chapter.
