Didn't look too deeply into chapters before the 4th season, but besides the 2th laketoya chapter, there are 3 other chapters that aparently weren't adapted, the one where Yamazaki falls for Tama, those are two, and the 400th chapter, one of the prissioner mangaka.

Yeah, for the 3rd season, they only adapted bigger arcs, for some reason.

There's also one short preview of an episode with Katsura training under a waterfall that has never aired and it's not in the manga either…

It's in the 2th laketoya chapter, Katsura starts doing the "ring a ding a ling" dance right after that.
-
Ah right that's true! Thanks for the tip! This episode is quite dangerous with all the copyright issues and fights with the sponsors that it can make. Maybe that's why it has never aired….
-
Well, the episode was framed as "the last episode before a hiatus", so they missed their mark twice already.
Just as the Timeskip arc and Kintama arc would require extra explanation or some contrivance to make sense as something other than season opener.

As a Gintama newbie, should I dive into the manga or the anime? I've read that the humor comes across better in the anime for obvious reasons but that the change between storyboarders and directors in later seasons has been disjointing. Personally, I'm leaning toward the manga, just for sake of time. But your guys' input is much appreciated.
-
Well both are worth seeing. The anime for at least 250 episodes are very funny. Much funnier than the manga. Also serious arcs are very well done. However sometimes there's small changes between anime and manga. But the spirit is the same. I would say Gintama has the best anime adaptation in all Jump series. I advice every Gintama newbie to read the manga at least till the Umibozu arc and then watch the anime.
About this week's chapter:
! Wow things are getting more and more intense. I love how a joke character like Elisabeth has serious and epic roles like this! Also it seems Nobume will have a major act to play in the next chapter. We need to know more about her past. Katsura is the best! He manage to have a joke role along a serious role perfectly! He's the man! I didn't recognize Matsudaira without his sunglasses. Happy to see he's ackonwledging Zura like the shogun successor!

! Biggest surprise in this manga: Kozenigata having a serious role…
-
Who is that in the boat with Kagura?

For sure. I'll check them both out then! Thanks.

The chokeholds was what made the chapter for me, that and this:@SalehMo:
elisabeth and shimaru

I agree, their interactions have been gold this arc.

elisabeth and shimaru
best duo
What about elisabeth and katsura? Katsura would cry, you know.

liz is always the sidekick to zura, it's refreshing to see liz in charge
-
Something is strange about Elisabeth these last chapters, it seems he has teeths?? Is it the side effects of Shimaru pissing him of?
Back to the chapter, it seems we're heading for a Sorachi adaptation of the Boshun War, however I wonder how much he will follow the true stories of his characters. On thing is sure the manga will end after this arc unfortunately…

i hope the manga wont end after this arc.
just because the manga gets serious longer then it usually gets does not mean The End.
because i do want to see Gintoki to get in a relationship with Tsukuyo before the manga ends.
plus i am sure the author can make the manga last longer then people are assuming.

The reveal of the death of the sensei, The death of the shogun, the fall of the shinsengumi, and the fact that Sorachi already said that it's ending, lead me to belive that it's ending.
This might not be the final arc, there's still Takatsuki to be dealt with, but while gintama could theoricaly last longer, it already has set an ending with shaking up the status quo. And going beyond the final confrontation, set up from the begining, is not a good idea.
-
well i just hope the manga goes between CH. 580 and 610.
so yea, the next big Arc villain will most likely be Shinsuke.
but what about Oboro?
-
Takasugi shouldn't be considered an antagonist anymore imo, or atleast not for now since there's still the Oboro matter which is a common enemy.
And the later works for the even bigger enemy than the current Shogun, namely the Tendoshuu that actually control the country behind the scenes and still have their partners the Harusame which betrayed Kamui and Takasugi.
Technically this looks more like an arc of the final saga, especially since we know close to nothing about both the Tendoshuu and the Harusame. Nothing indicates that we'll get any development about that though.
Sorachi already said that it's ending
Where did that happen ? I honestly can't remember if Sorachi ever said about Gintama ending.

Thanks for buying Gintama volume 57. With this volume the Shogun assasination arc is still going, I don’t know why but when entering in his story some readers started to say “is Gintama ending?” or ” I’ll support you, so please keep going” . I don’t get where this readers get this opinion and keep telling “I’m worried that he is ending that on his own accord”. I have to deal with all this and I would say, please keep to have faith in Sorachi sensei. People thinks that this serializzation is an halfassed one, but even I can make some underplots, As 10 years have floated I’ve scattered around some big and little shit, and I’m not leaving them out. Readers would expect me to just throw some shit as normal gorilla will do, but maybe I’m being too cool, I always take a shit in the toilet, and if some remain stuck, I clean it all, maybe because I’m a nevrotic gorilla. I wanted to say that. In some extent this is a story about delicacy, so just wait assholes. In the current situation, maybe you expect me to just scattered some shit aroun, but if you’ll notice my dick hanging out from my pants it’s jut because I was watching some porn on the internet, that’s why. Where’s the delicacy in this story.
And with that volume 57 “shit cleaning is ending,or started”special comes to an end. In a word Gintama is not ending. But the setting for his final is started. But seen how covered in shit it his is hard to understand how. So guys don’t worry about the end and just keep to enjoy my work. I still want it to going on, so please support me until the last of it.
There you go.
-
Oh so it's not immediate ending then, my point kinda stands and this is more like the beginning of the end.
It's pretty satisfying and makes sense.
Thanks.
-
Well Gintama has always been about redemption. It is about how you make someone "gets back his soul" more than easy plots with good versus evil. Except Nizou every villain in Gintama redeemed himself before losing or dying, even Hosen and Jiraya. That's why I don't think there will be another confrontation between Gintoki and Takasugi. The manga will end when Gintoki will save Takasugi's soul that's almost certain. Probably that will happen when he fighting against Oboro and Tendoshu. However I still can't see how Kamui will be saved…
And when I said it will end after this arc, I meant after this story, when they will go back together to edo. Call it saga or arc, I don't know what's better.
-
Don't sweat it, it's just the best word i could find to describe a bigger arc.
Like how the Cell arc is part of the Cyborgs.
-
-
Let's call it the final saga then :)
However, when I remeber each time they faked the end of the manga, we had a last episode, last chapter, last movie several times in the past so it's not impossible that this saga lasts 3 more years and the manga returns after that renamed Gintama 2 or Gintama Z :ninja:
-
Those fakeouts were obvious jokes.
This one would be akin to the whole Monday Elizabeth fiasco.
-
The whole Elisabeth arc was a fiasco. I have faith in the gorilla to give to Gintama a glorious and epic end. But I will be disappointed if we don't see some characters in this saga like Tsukuyo, Umibozu or Madao. I hope that they will have a role to play at some point.

Considering the way that he has done every big kabukicho arc: The 4 devas conclusion, the timeskip, kintoki and the movie, I doubt that they won't play a part.
But tsuki had focus when Naraku was introduced, and while the focus was in Hattori/the shogun last arc, Sarutobi got some focus. It's Tae's turn.
-
If tae is involved now then doubt kyubii will be involved after they all become joui patriots. The back in of a powerful family afterall
-
unless the Genderbending arc was Sorachi's way of saying goodbye to her, or there's a secret conection between that sect and Takatsuki.
-
Nah unless Sorachi is totally mad, the genderbending arc will stay a purely comic arc. But it's true that Kyubei can be involved in this saga, knowing that her family has been a great support to the Tokugawa shogunate. And since Nobunobu tried to kill Otae, there's great chances that the Yagyu will stop their alliance with the shogunate. Kyubei has potentially a huge role to play however I don't know why but it seems that Otae has finally fallen for the gorilla stalker.
-
(Well…I say spoilers, but it looks more like the script for the entire chapter)

Chapter 534 spoiler image:
!
(From ishuhui)
-
Epic chapter on sight
-
seriously what the hell is Elizabeth, i could have sworn i saw a man at one point inside the costume
-
Another epic chapter but I'm worried about Katsura. Yamazaki and the golden pair got to shine though.
-
! Yes Elisabeth is a true mystery. How come it can hold both the drill and two swords?? I loved that part though!
Well now we will have Nobume treason it seems. .. -
-
So the anime has 125(or 126) manga chapters to use for episodes.
i hope we cover them all or at least up to before shogun assassination arc
-
