Most unexpected event in One Piece

As One Piece is filled with so many twists and turns, I wanted to know the opinion of you guys about the most unpredictable twist Oda has ever made. I vote for the revelation of Duval's face. IMHO, it was one of the funniest and most unexpected moments in OP. Robin joining was pretty unexpected too though a few gifted people actually predicted it. But who would have predicted what Duval looked like. I'm pretty sure you guys have some similar events to share…

Note:

• By 'Nami leaving' I am referring to the incident that happened prior to the arlong arc
• 'Truth about Garp/Dragon' also includes revelations made about other members of the family such as Ace
• 'Truth about Rayleigh/Shanks/Buggy' also includes revelations made about other members of the Jolly Roger crew such as Crocus

Yeah, that was pretty unexpected too. I mean who would have thought that you could use your legs as pumps to increase your blood flow and strength. It was pretty smart thinking by luffy (oda)

Alas, I was spoiled about the CP9 too and so I can't comment about it though I'm pretty sure it must have been a shocker. But I agree about the whole Brooke and Laboon thing. I always thought Laboon was waiting for the Roger pirates

I was guessing it would be arlong or don krieg. But after Hatchan revealed that arlong got captured by the marines, I was 100% sure it was Don Krieg. But look what Oda came up with… That man is pure genius

Haha, I skipped Duval's face week too, and I still remember one of my friends spazzing about it before I read it, and I went DUN TELL ME PISSANT. She didn't, and the shock was delicious.

I was spoilered a little bit for Laboon because I was on another forum at that point, and suddenly people were talking about Laboon, so I was kind of confused until the chapter came out.

This. It was amazing how the attention from the whole Jaya/Monteblanc was totally diverted in such a short time such that i was taken completely by surprise when the other half of the house was shown.

That was both unexpected and sad :sad:. The following chapters had some of the most moving scenes in OP. Especially the parts in which it was revealed that merry fixed itself in skypiea and the part in which merry said goodbye almost made me cry

The crew's total defeat. That chapter freaked me out so bad, even though I knew Oda wouldn't kill off all of the Strawhats at once.

Other than that I remember Nami leaving really caught me off guard.

I was actually quite pissed about Duval; 90% convinced it was Krieg and I've been waiting for that crew to show up (they haven't even been mentioned). I started to doubt when he got bug-eyed beneath the mask and using his "accent"–that's when I thought "this is just another joke".

Kuma was unexpected to begin with, and then when Zoro was willing to take the fall for his captain I was like "shit...is Oda gonna really kill a main character???".

unexpected efinitely duval's face. obviously luffy's family would be revealed, and they were definitely gonna be crazy/awesome. so those revelations were awe-inspiring, but not unexpected. second I'd hav to go with brroke being linked to laboon and the 9 way split up.

I kinda saw merry's return coming. the send-ff when it fell out of frankys secret lair was too anticlimactic, the ship deserved better after healing itself in skypiea, plus the fact that they needed a boat/ship at the end of EL, left it quite obvious.

Although the other choices were unpredictable, the only event that actually surprised me, where I had NO IDEA it was gonna happen, was Duval's face. I laughed for about five minutes straight at that.

Monster Chopper's first appearence was pretty unpredictable. I don't think I guessed he'd become something so powerful and mindless.

Usopp Vs. Luffy: most notably Usopp's aggressive side. No one expected him to have such an aggressive streak. Shut a lot of Usopp haters up at the time too.

From that list though…probably either Garp or Duval's face.

Duvals face is winning the poll? How is that unpredictable or even notable at all when his face was shown soon after he was introduced? Sure it provided a few laughs, but hes not even an important plot character. He was a minor side character for one arc and probably wont be doing much else. If you where summarizing that arc, Duvals face wouldn't even be within the top 20 notable things. Robin joining is the only really good answer on that poll, in my opinion.

Heck Brooks first appearance (and his immediate conversation with Luffy about joining the crew) trumps Duval by leaps and bounds as a WTF unpredictable moment and hes not even in this poll.

No matter how good of a job oda did on the suspense and unexpected events, they will reach merman island. I can put all my emotions aside and know that they will b/c if they didnt, that would mean either they went around it or they all died and then one piece would be over. now we cant have that, I wont put up with it.

so putting all emotions aside, EVENTUALLY…. in years to come raftel will be reached.
