I say it was interesting and a good read but overall that's the kind of thing you'd expect to read anyway :lol: It's nice to see how Oda and Uda get to collaborate with each other though.
I think what surprised me most about the interview was seeing that Oda's a smoker… :lol: (unless I saw that wrong and it's... a piece of chalk or something)

It's great to get a little insight into the creative processes of the animation and just how much of a collaborative effort it seems to be. Oda seems to place a lot of faith in the anime staff and their love for the story & characters, and I'd say, as a fan of both works, his trust hasn't been misplaced, the anime is absolutely fantastic!

I thought there were one or two really interesting nuggets of information but what I thought was coolest was the info regarding Alabasta and Drum's placement. I'd never thought about it quite that way.

Yeh, funny that. I'd never really thought about the contrasts between the two kings as a linking point between the two arcs. Also, the music discussion, and the placement of ave maria in ep.86 was great. It was funny how surpised Oda was about it too. :P
yah the thing about the drum/alabasta kings is really interesting and the discussion about music and how it is very important for the anime to catch the most emotional part or the main part of a chapter of a manga.
anyway, good stuff but was sad not to have any information for the latest anime/manga
Well speaking of latest info, I was also surprised that Oda doesn't do original character design (or at least not all of it) for the animation. I know he does for the films based on what Toei describes but I thought he did it for the animation as well.

These guys definently come off as easy going, the type of good feel attitude and enthusiasm I would expect from guys that allow us to experience such a great story.

I really enjoyed the interview, I love hearing the creators talk like that. They really know their work and the characters and everything, it's beautiful.
I kind of caught the link between Drum and Alabasta… well, sorta. Mostly from Vivi's being appaled by Wapol.
And I really liked when they talked about Hiluluk's death in the anime. That was such a beautiful and touching scene, it must've taken a stron, talented director to make it that good. The hymn, oh god, the hymn... that whole scene made me tear up.
I loved that one thing Oda said, "But before I make everyone else cry, I have to cry by myself." Damn, I love hearing about the love and respect the creators have for their art. I can't really describe it, it's a great feeling.

Well if I can cry at a scene, I'm sure anyone can be moved by the story. Certainly the man who has to bring up that emotion within himself and put it in pictures on paper.

On thinking about it maybe I shouldn'tve been surprised about that. If my favorite Johnny's idols both smoke then I should've figured my favorite comic artist would too :lol:
I also have to give a nod to what Cap'n said; as an artist myself you almost feel for your art too much at times (I know I definitely have). I can't say I've cried at anything I've written (though I've managed at times to make myself become sick over having to write very graphic topics) but I can totally empathize with the feeling. On one hand when you put your soul into everything and you get shot down, you feel like your world is crashing around you - but when you get praise and you know you've done your best, you are totally unshakable. It's one of the best feelings you can have as a person. ^^

The site's main area is really a catch-all Japan site which I update at whim simply because I want to make disgustingly accurate and detailed accounts. It just happens that the most frequently updated section is One Piece ^_^; It's all an offshoot of my ancient crappy DBZ site that during it's golden years received over 100,000 hits a day…but that's an age long gone ^O^
nonetheless omae, u made a really great site, i have bookmarked it and decided reading all one piece stuff, :) one of the best one piece sites ever!

Well, I did (post18).
But what I find most interesting in the interview or like best in the story is that it is not only about the 7 or more people but that they are embedded in some society.
Oda: A group is influenced by the waves of the times. After all, if people swarm together, it will bring birth to an unstoppable force… That is actually one big part of the theme. I uh, I write in pretty minute detail when someone makes a certain action, how the people around that individual will respond. Normally when making a story move along itâ€
s fine to simply draw the main characters. But rather than just that, I want to write about what the townspeople think by putting all feelings in their place within a scene.
I think the relationship between Luffy and the other people and how they regard him is far more important for becoming a pirate king than defeating everybody crossing his way.
