Not accurate considering he probably went to hell.

That story touched my heart.
Thanks.

Topcat,
He'll See You There On His Annual Visit(To Hell)
-
Wow. I was wrong. There ARE good people in the world, still. Too bad one of them left us. He's in a better place now, though.
Not accurate considering he probably went to hell.
Oh lawd.
-
Really awesome kid there.
-
The kid is precious and an angel.
The adults disgust me.
"WTF GREG!?"
Seriously, these are things people should do NORMALLY without a child inspiring them.
"I've never seen the courage that this boy displayed."
Fuck you.
Because he showed courage you feel obligated to fulfill his wish which is something that you could be doing otherwise?
What would be GREAT is if some people are inspired to actually change their lives enough so that they keep up the support and the drive, but just as a one-time thing it's ridiculous.
God bless the boy's heart. But shame on everyone else who will volunteer this once and then go back to their normal lives.
"You're so negative Greg."
I just know how many people are. They hear a child is dying so they get bleary-eyed, do a little volunteer work, then pat themselves on the back and plop down on the couch, and that frustrates me.

I feel the exact same way. It's amazing how people get so jaded and closed off as they grow up. They get so afraid of getting hurt or being scammed they forget that there are people that do need help. And yet they never do grow up they just grow older. It's a hard world we live in.

Well, while I agree that's being sort of negative, I totally agree with what you're saying. I've had experience with people who do a couple good deeds one day, and think they're amazing people just because of it. It's irritating as hell.

I freaking concur.

Hmm, a tragic and or heartwarming article?
Perhaps I can use this to make a grandstanding rant condemning something only vaguely associated with the story.
Sounds like a motherfuckin' plan.
I.Am.Down.With.This.Shit. -
Well, while I agree that's being sort of negative, I totally agree with what you're saying.
Yeah again, I totally agree it's a negative way of looking at it. On the plus side, at least people are doing something which is certainly good.
However, whenever a child or cute animal somewhere is suffering and people take up a one-shot cause it's depressing. Just as you said, people flock to it, do one thing outside their bubble, then wave their cock around thinking they've cured hunger because they gave up two hours on Saturday.
I'm reminded of Christopher Reeves' sudden interest in funding paralysis research post accident.
People shouldn't have to find a reason for a good cause beyond just doing it.
But no offense King Ty for bringing up the article. I enjoyed the story and that boy did have a heart of gold.
-
T_T sniff
actually, I'm all done my christmas shopping now. I'm gonna take some extra money, stuff some in the sally ann's pot, then donate some to the food drive, and buy a present for one of those toy mountains.
I was also thinking, we have a nice lady at work, she has a full time job, then works about 30hrs a week at subway. single mom, 2 kids. I might take a shift for her one day near christmas, and still write her name on the schedual to get paid. She inspires me. I could never work that much and still keep a smile on my face. she is always happy.

Out of sheer curiosity though, do you follow your own advice?

Yeah, I read this a couple of days ago. Man, that kid is the epitome of what people should be. Despite his own troubles, he decided to spend his energies into helping other people. Some people won't/wouldn't do that with all of the money in the world yet he did with a few weeks to live. A sad story indeed, but a good story also. It pained me to see the pain on his face as he looked at his situation with wisdom that went far beyond many people living on this earth, and I did feel like we lost something truly precious here. However, as others have said, may he rest in peace knowing that his final wish came true.
Thank you Brenden Foster.

Honestly, do you expect converts out of these people. Sure it can be seen as hypocritical to do this sort of thing once and never again. But come on, even if it's just for a bit the fact that they're trying should be no reason to burn them at the steak for high crimes of hypocrisy even if it's because they want to feel better they are are ultimately helping someone out.

And that I agree with. I think I even made a post to that end. At least it creates some good in the world.
However when people talk about volunteering two hours on a Sunday or Saturday as if it was a life-changing event it seems they're taking advantage of the situation as a chance to satisfy their own egos rather than fulfill the wish of a dying boy. When people say stuff like, "I've never seen a boy with so much courage.", that's just bull. Why do you need to say that? He was a boy with an incredibly selfless wish. You just do it, it doesn't beg justification.

Oh no, my side of the argument will go unchallenged, noooooo, anything but that

how does it feel high up there on your pedastal of awesomeness.

What pedastal? I'm talking about the very people who elevate themselves over such things.
How can you bitch about hipocracy when you havent tried to examine the other side of the fence
I have examined the other side of the fence. It's called 'living in the world'. As you get older and leave the bubble of your hometown you come in contact with people outside your sphere. I see the same people around me and on television, in newspapers, no matter where you are.
"Yeah we're all gathered here today for a great cause! For little Timmy who has horrible disease. We're going to run 5km for Timmy to raise awareness about his disease."
Do you know what the organizers of these events do? Do you want to know? They add it to their resumes. The memory of little Timmy lives on in their search for a high-paying job.
Do you know how busy people are now a days
Yes I do. I'm a 'people' myself.
If everyone gave just one weekend that would be enough
I am NOT saying that volunteering just once is any way shape or form a bad thing. Just the assholes who think their shit doesn't smell because they did something decent once and don't need to again. What you said about being busy is EXACTLY the wrong attitude. So what if you're busy? That's the point of volunteering.
-
^While I agree with you Greg, I think you're looking too deeply into this particular situation. In this case, I didn't really get the feel that these people did this because of their egos.
Anyway, this was a really good kid with a big heart, and these people did a good thing. I think we should just leave it at that.
-
In this case, I didn't really get the feel that these people did this because of their egos.
I agree and I would never suggest every person associated the cause is that kind of person. Just when you see people justifying WHY they felt the need to help, "I've never seen such a courageous kid.", I can't help but roll my eyes. You do it because it should be done.
