Teen Commits Suicide Live on Web

Holy shit, that's scary. I'm disgusted at the people who egged him on, and while it was too late, I wish to thank those who notified the site to try to stop him.
I have nothing else to say…this is just...absolutely horrifying.

What The Hell Are We Coming To As A Society
Where Someone Commits Suicide On a Live Internet Broadcast & Is Egged OnDAMN IT I FEEL SICK

It's sad that he would commit suicide. Do people know why he did it? -
@Indian:
It's sad that he would commit suicide. Do people know why he did it?From what I read, he hated himself for some reason and his parents do not understand, nor had seen any indication that he would succumb to doing such a thing. He was a very nice and outgoing person they say, starting conversations with people he was around and taking his younger nieces to Chuck E. Cheese.
That doesn't sound like someone who would commit suicide (let alone on the internet) at all, now does it?
My condolences to the family.
-
Oh my god. That is very sad.
And downright disturbing as well.
-
I recall this has happened couple times before.
-
I remember reading about some middle aged man with a kid hanging himself and putting it by web cam, also. That story was a little bit more depressing considering he had a kid and all.
It's horrible that people egged him on, but just the fact that he would mention it in that forum to begin with puts him at some fault if not his parents. Human beings are weird, man.
-
How absolutely disgusting.

A few eerie bits of web evidence:
His last posts before his demise

The last minute of video feed before the police ended it.

Crap!Wut will we do next?
-
Honestly, I'm not surprised. This isn't the first time it happened. And I sincerely doubt it'll be the last. There are some very strange people in the world and sensationalism is very strong in this day and age.
-
God there are some weak people in the world, I feel bad for his fam.
-
Now that I read about it, I kinda doubt he really meant to kill himself. It seemed more like a cry for help. Help just never came . But what I really know.
Still, hey, if I will ever commit a suicide I will do it this way. Webcam style, baby.
-
this has made me feel ill.

Just Damn…............

Can't say I feel bad for him. The internet is filled with morons.
I feel bad for his family though.
-
Jesus…
I blame the parents, feel bad for the kid. He looks really young... -
I hope people don't flip on me for saying this, as it's not my intention…
But, I honestly can't blame them for egging him on. I mean, it's the internet, people whine saying "im gunna killz mesolf!" all the time cause they're attention whores. Most internet people have evolved to the point of "Yeah, right." and instead go with it cause they feel confident that he's just bullshitting.
Thus was not the case this time.
Either way, I've been going to Justin.tv for a few months now. It has some good streams and stuff, I hope this doesn't cause the site any trouble. There's a moment of silence post on their blog: http://blog.justin.tv/

I kinda agree. I mean, they wouldn't have egged him on if he hadn't put himself in that position and advertised it like he did. And even so, if it's that harmful, there's always the "off" button on the computer.
Everybody think they have the worst problems… feel bad for the family.
-
^That's why you shouldnt egg ppl on like that. You n ever know when someone's kidding or not. IRl or on the net.

I'm not praising anybody for egging him on, but they didn't put him in that position. They may have been stupid, they didn't give him the pills, or put a gun to his head. He made a firm decision on his own before anyone egged him on.
-
You can usually talk ppl out of suicide if they make the effort to reach out to other ppl before or as they're in the act. Thats the whole purpose of suicide hotlines.
If he took the trouble of posting all that on the net, he was hoping to be talked out of it deep down somewhere. -

According to the article, he was Bipolar. This probably went down during his bad period, or whatever you call it.

I really dont think that's an excuse. Besides there's "not helping" and there's pushing you in the complete wrong direction. And you're acting like this was a completely rational kid who realized that.
I mean, look at all the "advice" threads in gen. discussion. It's the worse place to look, but people DO seek help with social situations from the internet. -

Period…..........
-
Ao Kiji, please go jump off a cliff.
You're not going to, right? Okay then. The internet is full of people that get lols out of others misfortune. But generally they can't force this misfortune onto others, you have to accept the fact that this kid was very troubled. Without the internet, his life at best would have probably just be prolonged for a little while more. The internet folk are not to blame.
-
This is horrifying.
There's several similar incident occurring in Chaos;Head right now and it's just as horrible, enough to make me sick and disgusted.
But not with the suicidee. Rather, it's with the beasts who sensationalize this stuff before and after it happened. It's like some kind of immoral madness…the yellow journalism of a century and a quarter ago becomes language punctuating a digital hive mind.
The involvement of so many people, so detached from the context of the suicide make it distinctly different from someone making a public display, like jumping off of a building.
It is true, "making fun" of the person's death won't change the fact that person died. But madness breeds madness, I'd have to think what would happen if online deaths to amuse people online became commonplace because of internet culture.

If he took the trouble of posting all that on the net, he was hoping to be talked out of it deep down somewhere. There was a posted suicide note left with the video posted earlier, it mentioned that this dude had tried to commit suicide 3 times before and had failed. Do you really think that someone could've talked this dude out of this? I mean, sure, there are suicide hotlines, but those are for people looking for other options. This guy obviously saw suicide as his only option. I don't wanna sound bitter or mean but I'm not gonna feel sorry for this guy. He put his own fate in his own hands. There are plenty of people that die in plenty worse ways than this of natural causes. This guy was just looking for attention and thought his problems were the end of the line. He didn't have the courage to live on. I mean, come on, everybody has problems, but that doesn't mean we should all commit suicide. I feel bad for the family because this obviously was something that they didn't want, and I feel for them. But I think he was selfish. I feel that way about anybody that commits suicide with their own family in consideration. It's a waste of life. Nobody wasted that life but him.
I feel that it is a tragedy, just not in the way that most people perceive it. This guy was gone before he died.

Yes they are just as guilty.
The internet folks spoke death not peace
They didn't aid the situation they made it worse
Terrible counsel from fellow peers"Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit."
-
quit acting like actions don't result in consequences and take responsibility for your actions. that case would not be going to trail if people didn't think it mattered. I hope that lady gets what's coming to her, and I hope that the people that egged on the boy being discussed in this thread have to live with the dread of what they did for the rest of their lives and think twice about what they are doing.

No, I'm sorry, I disagree. Fact is, that boy, by his own hands and will, killed himself. That is all the proof needed that he wasn't well. These people didn't make his job easier, and they certainly wouldn't have prevented it. This kid wanted to die, and no one in that chat had the power to cause him to die, or not to die. The boy was his own worst enemy, and the only people who could have changed this event would be the ones in his life. But alas, they did not see the signs.
-
And do you think a kid that's not well needs negative encouragement?
The instigators are not innocent here. -
I mean, it's the internet, people whine saying "im gunna killz mesolf!" all the time cause they're attention whores. Most internet people have evolved to the point of "Yeah, right." and instead go with it cause they feel confident that he's just bullshitting.
I can't believe some people, and there excuses, "Oh he's not going to kill himself, so I will just give him some encouragement even tho there a 1% chance of this guy who I never met before in my life, might do it. So I will give him encouragement not knowing if what he plans to do is true or false." So what do they do when the guy does kill himself?
Not to mention why the hell would you want, to see if he will kill himself or not?Guess those little sh8ts got what they wanted, live with it. As for the kid, weak, I feel sad for his fam.
-
I doubt the people in that chatroom are that heart-broken about it. The funny thing for me is, they kept watching the stream after hours of him just laying down motionless.
-
That's just sad. What's this world coming to? How could people watch something like that? If I had 'accidentally' see it I would have left before you could say "do it lulz."
I'm not really sure of who to blame. I mean, one could blame the kid because if he seriously wanted someone to talk to him and help him, he wouldn't have done it over the internet. I mean, come on. Anyone on their right mind would know that the internet is filled with idiots. (No offense. =p) And that it's no place for a bipolar person to seek help.
As for the bunch of idiots who just watched for hours. I'm sure they didn't do anything 'cause they were high on meth….or something. Besides, there are some people who actually didn't know what they could do. But, even I know to contact a mod or someone who can actually do something about it. Not just sit around watching someone die. But then again, maybe they just thought that he had popped some tic-tacs or something.
Ahh! This is too confusing...I'm just gonna stop ranting. I'm actually not sure that any of this made sense. =/ If it didn't I apologize. I tried my best.
-
that's too bad. Sad, that he had to come to that solution.
-
Why do people keep saying "i dun understand why this happened"?
An autopsy concluded Biggs died from a combination of opiates and benzodiazepine, which his family said was prescribed for his bipolar disorder.

I've known a lot of bipolar people in my life. It's scary and unsettling, especially if you've known them for a long time. I begin to predict their moods, their ups and downs as it were - rather easy if you've known them for a long period of time. The ups are almost as scary as the downs because if they crash when they're up, they fall very far down.
An old friend used to threaten suicide every time she came down. My own sister - with whom I live - attempted it when she took a bunch of her pills in the car with a bottle of Dr. Pepper (she's also not supposed to have caffiene) and then walked inside to VERY CHEERFULLY tell me what she did.
I'm sure there were other things that affected his decision to do this, but here's a more basic explanation for those that "don't understand."
EDIT: It's in this kind of situation where you can't really blame anyone.
-
will it ever happen that parents will teach their kids that anything that happens before 20 yo has no meaning on a gloabal scale and thus isn't worth suiciding, no matter what it is?
the point is not the live broadcast, it's under 20 yo suicide, i find it really disturbing and an unbelievable inaptitude of the parents to teach something to their children.
-
You can't teach someone to not be bipolar or to not be depressed.
-

Its losers like that who f**k up this world.
-
If I ever want to cease living for whatever reason I'll be taking the whole lot of you with me.
-
@Jinbei: No, they're not. If they are so bored that they are sitting down watching something uneventful for hours, chances are they aren't gonna bother to go outside and fuck up the world.

Well after, giving some encouragement to some kid to kill himself over the E net, then these faggots sit there watching a body lay motionless, who knows what there doing out in the world, or when a chance to do something awful in the world may fall in there lap.
There presence in the world alone is a threat.
