The iceberg cameo was a nice touch, also, Bink's sake sounded really good.
That episode was so awesome. The animation was excellent and I especially loved Brook singing Bink's Sake. And then there was the Rumba Pirates playing it! And seeing Brook cry like that nearly made me cry. One of the best episodes I've ever seen. And I also thought the picture of Iceburg on the back of the paper was pretty cool.

Are you in Japan? If so you're in a similar situation to me. After the fucktards in charge of Fuji TV decided to focus on variety programming and moved OP out of its 7:30PM spot it became kind of a random thing across the country. Only a few large cities actually broadcast new episodes on Sundays. In my case where I live we're 4 weeks behind the new episodes and they air on Thursday afternoons.
That was a great episode. The Rumble Pirates playing Blink Sake was awesome. Seeing that scene with Luffy painting the Straw Hat symbol on Laboon remind how far the series have came since the beginning.
Question: Did they actually reanimate the flashbacks, or just use that super-shitty border to shrink the old footage down?

If they reused footage, it would either be horrifically zoomed or bear a blatant border.
Also, even though the style is similar to Oda's art at the time, the weight of the lines are completely different.

I was thinking this as I watched (heard?). I've arranged and performed a ton of video game music, but the only anime pieces I've done are from Kenshin. This stood out though.

Great, emotional episode. Best part was when Brooke started to play Bink on his piano…now that was just awesome. Art and animation were great, as usual for Naoki Tate. It was funny to see the scenes with Laboon at the lighthouse drawn in his current art style, which is so much different from those early days.
That was such a beautiful episode. I'm overcome with so many wonderful emotions right now…The feeling of camaraderie among the characters, the feeling of nostalgia for their early adventures, the beauty of the old pirate song...I could just cry. I'm a sap.

I'm actually happy we are not getting high animation for the whole flashback. And Animation doesn't matter if the Art is good, so if everyone looks normal, then it's fine.

Freaking Awesome…My expectations were low, but Damn, Naoki Tate made this episode an instant Win for me!!! Definitely 100\10.
WOW...Binks Sake is AWESOME!!! and lol at Iceberg cameo. Nami looked really cute and adorable in Tate's Art. And I was crying through out the episode, specially when looking at Zoro, and Even Luffy was awesome when he was asking about Zoro and when he was talking to Brook. The atmosphere was really good.

Yep it's same quality as last week, and thank god, without the gray line.
I'm actually shocked at the speed of the manga and the Raws nowadays, Guess One Piece is becoming even more popular.
Anyway, there is a lot of talking in this episode, and not to forget the song. So probably it will take a lot of time till you finish the sub. Good Luck,
Wonderful Episode, it made me smile the whole time, and even a little teary at the end. The Re-Animation of the Luffy-Laboon Meeting was also well done, I like the new Sound Adult Laboon makes.
But… I also had to seriously chuckle at the end, I mean... rainbow colours in the background? Okay, it's a great way to show how joyfully this crew is, but... you know what they say about men and rainbows... :happy:

all in all a great a really great episode!!!
Am I the only one who thinks that Binks' Sake would fit perfectly as an ending-theme?
Apart from that, the animation was decent, the pacing was good, and the only real complaint I have would be that the ending was way, way, WAY too cheezy with the rainbow-colored background and stuff. Also, recap lasted only a few seconds, yay!
Well, I give the rainbow background a pass because I imagine we're seeing them play through Laboon's eyes.
But I agree that this is an effectively emotional episode with some nice artwork and animation.
The preview for last week showed us what the manga did in regards to Brook's "alive" face (i.e.it's there but heavily shadowed). Yet in this ep we get the Face reveal as if it were nothing. Did they animate that just for last week's preview!?
Awesome episode, the pacing was great, the emotional stuff was all there, the music was fantastic (I'm totally expecting a cut of Bink's Sake to accompany Brook's eyecatch) and there was some excellent Animated GIF potentials in this one (practically anything with Franky dancing and Lola scarfing down food)
