Don't let the name fool you, Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection is actually a compilation disc of 40 varied titles from the glory days of Sega. The $30 bundle for Xbox 360 and PS3 releases in "spring 2009" and outputs in 720p.

As long as developer Backbone Entertainment keeps the quality high, this is looking like a must-have compilation for fans.

Not bad. I never got to play most of these games. It'd be awesome if they had some achievements in these games.

Thats like, almost exactly the "Sega Genesis Collection" thats been out on PS2 and PSP for some time now that you can find for 10 bucks. Only difference is its MISSING a few games the other compilation had, (they were all lackluster games sure) and has Shining Force and Streets of Rage franchises on there, which are good to be on there, but… This was a lame compilation on Ps2, and only tolerable on PSP, mostly for the Phantasy Star saga. But the games aren't updated at all, just old old ports with the ancient graphics and gameplay, resulting in a lot of the games being utter suck. A few gems in there, but... a lot of those games did NOT age well, or at all. Altered Beast, and Alex Kidd aged badly, and FLicky was never good.

Seriously, any given genesis game is what, 1 MB, tops? On a BLUE RAY? You could fit every sega genesis game EVER onto a PS2 disk if you tried, with room to spare, its criminal to be that hideously limited on a PS3 release.

Just make it the SEGA collection, none of this Genesis limit nonsense. Throw in the ancient Master System games (I wouldn't mind playing Psycho Fox again, however sucky it might be today) , along with some Sega Cd and Sega Saturn goodness, like the practically never re-released Sonic CD or Knuckles Chatoix. For whatever reason, whenever they make a "Sonic Compilation" they skip those games, despite them being some of the best, and also not played by a many people. Just throw in Some stuff from the sega catalog thats harder to find that hasnt been repackaged dozens of times thats a little more recent than 15 years old. Throw in Virtua Fighter 2 and Panzer Dragoon and Nights. Or at least announce that your going to do a classic Saturn compilation. But this meager patching of Genesis games is weak sauce. Acceptable for a portable system and roadtrips, but lame for a heavy release.

I only care about the Sonic series and Ristar and I have those already on Gamecube...

It's quite a tempting set to buy if it wasn't for the fact I've already got almost every game on there from past compilation games or Virtual Console.

Rocket Knight Adventure was made by Konami, so blame them not Sega.

Anyways, makes me glad I didn't spend any money on Sega's VC offereings. Sonic 1-3 + S&K, Vectorman 1 & 2, Streets of Rage 1-3, Golden Axe 1-3. Makes me feel like a kid renting games during summer time again. Add in some Shining Force and Phantasy Star, and it remedies some of the missing gems of mine during the Genesis days.

Yeah, should have Toe Jam & Earl. Earthworm Jim isn't a Genesis only game (it was also published on the SNES). Remember people, first party Sega games.
