Aaah! It's terrible! It's been almost twenty hours since the episode aired!!! …On second thought, how the flying f*** is that a bad thing? At least this episode was quality-checked, and had a Raw that looked good AND didn't randomly distort itself for some utterly confusing reason...

Also, I find it kinda ironic that, when we FINALLY get another episode where the "Look forward to next week"-message at the end stays on screen for long enough to actually make it readable, I have nothing to write there! (Well, except "Look forward to next time!", of course...)

dattebayo has a 18 hour subbing process i believe

softsubbing is generally a faster process since there's no need to encode.
Dattebayo only hardsubs as far as i know.

You need to have vsfilter installed.

I'm having trouble playing this. This is my first time playing a video and a subtitle from separate files and this is much harder than I expected. I downloaded the latest VSfilter and installed it no problem but still can't get the subtitles to show up in VLC or MPC. It works in KMP but the font is all big and when I tried to edit the subtitle font size it shows it even bigger and the subtitles start flashing awkwardly.

The two files need to be in the same folder and named the same I believe, minus the file type extension. i.e. if your raw file is named "One Piece 375.avi" the subtitle file should be named "One Piece 375.ass", so either rename the RAW file, or rename the subtitle file. At least that's how I was taught to do it lol.

Use mpc. Right click the running video,->filters, check if directvobsub(autoloading version) is loaded. Probably not though. Right click, options, external filters, add filter, directvobsub. (If it's not there you didn't install it.) Add it, doubleclick on it to open the settings. General settings "load when needed". If the problem's not that it was set to "don't load" then I can't help you right now.

There are players (like VLC) that use bad internal filters that can't properly display ass subs. That's why you should use a so called directshow player like mpc, wmp or zp (disable any internal subtitlefilters if necessary) and confirm you're using directvobsub filter.

Also the main style of the script is called default which under certain circumstances (fiddling with vobsub's settings during playback) seems to cause the main style to reset to direcvobsub's default style (which is called -you guessed it- default as well). So if that happened to you, change directvobsubs text settings on the main page from default to Vietnamese or whatever and restart the player. If that doesn't help you then use these subs with a renamed main style.

Also there are a ton of playback guides on the net. I've linked to some of them in one of the older threads so go there if you have any other problems.

Thanks for all the help. I knew it wasn't the sub file fault, but theres so many settings to tweak within the player that I just didn't bother. Next time I'll try what you said about enabling vcfilter in media player classic

Hardsubbed [VS] HD?

Cons: A lot, seriously.
Pros: Slightly smaller filesize than the original RAW.

Totally not worth the hassle.

Just want to say to those of you that have problems with the Soft sub, you don't need to rename any files if you have VLC atleast, i didn't do that i just entered VLC Preferences and went to Video - Subtitles and changed the Use Subtitle File: to the One Piece 375.ass and it worked great!

Not necessarily.

Firstly nothing is gained by muxing the subs to the raw. You don't have to rename the subtitlefile anymore. Great. You can't play the mkv on mp4 compatible hardware anymore though.
What it actually does is take away much needed seeds from the raw's torrent. In the end either both torrents will be slow or if you chose to upload your file to a hoster only the original raw's will.

In case you really want to re-encode the Raw to reduce the filesize a bit (which would be the only pro here) the questions remains why we would want to draw off seeds from the original raw when recent raws haven't been all that heavy anyway:

Secondly there's the question what people might do to the subs. Cyberfreak for example converts the *.ass to *.srt format which supports almost no features, and strips the subs of 4 of its 5 font styles leaving only a main style that's running on directvobsubs's default which in almost all cases will be some Arial font. Because of that he also deleted the whole Romaji version of the opening song, so uh, yeah, …thanks for that.

Having it only in SD doesn't bother me. If people want to re-encode it in HS, fine. As long as it doesn't delay the work of [VS]'s releases, then we're all good.

I'm also a fansubber, I know that it's wrong to mess with other peoples scripts because i understand how much hard work is put into fansubbin'. If people want mp4 files then they just don't have to download the mkv plus I'm sure more people want to view the subs more than the raws. I really don't see anything wrong with the mkv. plus not everybody knows who you guys are or where to find you so they can't download the script. A mkv softsub will save a lot of people time.

A: There already is a mkv version with softsubs. Albeit screwed up subs as it seems.
B: If people not getting the script is your concernt then why don't you upload a torrent with the script and the right font?

The requirements for playing the embedded mkv subs are the same as for raw + *ass. You still need to have vsfilter set up properly so why not just upload the subs so everyone can stay on the original RAW's torrent?

kk, if there is already a HD mkv then it's all cool. Dude the raw and the mkv are the same. some people don't know how to had .ass to raw. embeding subs makes things so much easier for everyone. Not everyone wants to go through the trouble of adding .ass to raw. In a mkv everything is there for you. Why do we have to go through the long and stupid method when we have MKV.

And that's why I can't help but frown at splitting up the available seeds. Fans, Fansubbers and japanese speaking people all over the world are on the original RAW's torrent. To not use that pool of seeds just because of some 25KB of added subs that could have easily been uploaded separately really isn't very efficient.

Mind if I stream this video on my website? I was thinking about streaming the latest episode when it came out for those that didnt want to download it. It'd still be good quality since I use the divx webplayer.

They get hosted and streamed from about a hundred different places immediately after release anyway. Usually the streamed episodes get raped pretty hard.

The best quality streams are at youtube, split in three parts by user infinitz94 if you want to compare them to yours.

Having gotten tired of waiting for Instanz to catch up, I went and downloaded your guys' scripts and I must say I'm pretty impressed. (although I find/replace gum-gum and three sword with gomu gomu and santoryu)

I think you guys may go a bit overboard with the caps sometimes and there's some punctuation issues that crop up every so often, but otherwise you guys are doing a great job.
