Language Threads

Since there is another language thread now, let us just keep track of language threads here. This way, even if the thread would be inactive for a while, we can easily spot them. Enjoy typing in that language in those threads.

Even though it is not that encouraged to create a new language thread (too much trouble for us!?), but if you feel there is enough need, please post the link here after you create such thread. The list will be modified accordingly.

Rules:

General forum rules apply.
Please do not spam by yourself. (ie. If you post something and have no reply, but you want to post something else, copy the last post, delete it, and repost. That way, you won't have double posts and you still get the attention ^^
Please be extra nice to people. Mods/admins might not understand the language. (I know some of us do understand multiple languages though.)
If you see any false behavior, please PM any mod around.
No languages other than English could go outside of these threads. Please keep it within. That includes any language except when you're discussing / explaining the translation about Anime / Manga.
If you still have urge to post in other language in normal threads for whatever the reasons, please make sure to post English translation next to it.

Mods/Admins' languages (in addition to English, of course!):

XD Now there are too many pinned threads in General Discussion. Any threads we can unpin?

Oh anyway, is there any Mandarin speakers here? If there are enough, I think we can afford to have a thread, otherwise I see no need for one.

I know, I hated to see too many pinned topic… >_< But this board is the best board I could post this thread.

I'll try with my limited Chinese. I'll throw extra and use Taiwanese when I'm stuck!!

Isn't Taiwanese just Mandarin written in Traditional text? Well, I can read some traditional text, so it should not be a big problem.. ^^

Nope, Taiwanese doesn't have a written language. We use roman characters when we need to. Or we write in Mandarin and translate in our head. It's really different from Mandarin like it is a lot different between Mandarin and Cantonese. Oh yeah, it sounds like Hokkien. (I didn't understand ANY Mandarin until I came to the States. Now I understand daily conversations. I still can't speak though. I'm slow at speech.)

Oh, I've seen the phonetics characters for Taiwanese in Jay Chou's album ^^;; So that's Taiwanese. XD If you speak that to me, I can't even understand a single thing, though I can understand a bit of Cantonese.

Ah, good idea.

I can only speak Mandarin and English fluently (sorry I'm noob :P) and a little bit of Japanese though it doesn't matter anyway.

I think she knows Bahasa Melayu (which is Malay), English, French, Arabian and perhaps more.

I only speak English and Swedish. Also I learned German for four years, but it feels like it was for a week, because I don't remember much at all. ^^;;

Not to stop on anyoneÂ´s toe but could someone please explain to me whereÂ´s the need in languageÂ´s threads here? The way I see it, these language threads are all supposed to be in the general other forum so whatÂ´s the point?

Just for those specific language users to get to know each other. In Japanese thread, we just talk about anything: what we ate for dinner, what musics do we like, what we did today. Some people could also use those thread to practice their new language as well. We're willing to help them.

Hmm, sounds a bit iffy to me. I know I would feel kind of weird if there would be a german thread. IÂ´m basically here to talk about One Piece with One Piece fans from all over the world. This board is like a harbour for me to talk about what I enjoy so much since in the real life I almost get no chance to do so. If there would be a german thread I would actually feel out of place. Kind like "YouÂ´re from Germany, me too lets talk!" strange. Maybe I should try that on the streets with hot girls. IÂ´m curious what will happen.

Well either way, this is not meant as rambling, but at the moment I feel somehow strange about this kind of threads. But who am I to ask?:lol:

It's just some people don't dare to type in English since they feel their English is not fluent enough. Well, those threads will be created when somebody want to create it, so if you don't like it, you can just… wait until it to be created.

But you don't mind somebody asking question about German/Germany, right? I hope so o.o

Nah I donÂ´t mind. As you see I was even quite active in the spanish thread. If thereÂ´s questions about one languages specifics that help understand it IÂ´m the first one to admit that it is a good thing, because I always support interest in different cultures, languages etc.

But if it is just for the sake of, now lets talk in our native language with the ones who understand it motif then IÂ´m kind bleh about it.

It is just as you said, I can actually pass it by if IÂ´m not interested in it. IÂ´m not mocking the idea though, I was just curious what the motifÂ´s are for such threads here.

I understand Chinese but the thing is I flunked my Chinese in O levels and thus i'm doing Chinese 'B' in the A levels. I do not have HanStar though so can't type in chinese.

I speak hebrew, english, spanish and arabic. my spanish is bacause of my family's roots. arabic i'm learning at school. it is pretty useful, israel is surrounded by arab countrys, as you know. i'm not that good at arabic though. my spanish is minor (very minor), 'cause im the smallest grandchild at my family, everyone's pretty grown up, and the person who's using spanish the most - my grandma, lives quite far from me.

EDIT: For some reason i feel like writing Arlong Park in hebrew:P
