Today, I saw that my local toys r us had Wii Fit in stock, and knowing how hard it is to get, wondered if I could make a profit on ebay (yes, I know it's a bit underhanded, but I only bought one).
Anyway, I got home and checked the auctions, only to find out that auctions were going for only ten or fifteen dollars more, really not worth the effort for me.
After being disappointed by ebay, I went to return the Wii Fit, and the customer service people proceeded to open it in front of me, and discovered that someone had removed the game and the Wii scale, and replaced them with A REGULAR SCALE. They told me that they couldn't take it back, because the seal was broken (although they broke the seal themselves when they opened it).
Angrily, I returned home and called the company. They told me that hopefully I would get a return call by Wednesday, but until then, I'm out almost a hundred dollars. Is there something else I can do? I'm furious that not only is my wallet much lighter, but someone made me look like a complete asshole in public.
This sucks.

Wait for Christmas.
-
I would have only had 45 days to return it anyway, and I'd much rather get into a fight with Toys R Us than with someone over ebay, because I have a perfect seller rating.
-
totally. don't let them get away with it. demand that they wronged you by selling you failty product. Ask for the manager, and request to have their video tapes reviewed.
Why would they unwrap a wrapped package anyways. I've never heard of a customer service desk doing that to an unopened product, cause then they can't resell it as a new product.
HOW did that stuff get in there, i'd like to know.
-
It wasn't wrapped, but the top was glued shut apparently. I called Nintendo and they said that the store is responsible for securing it, so it's possible that someone at the store did it. I'm not really sure why they opened the top though. :/
There was a manager there actually, and he really didn't seem to take the situation seriously. You'd think that, if I was lying, he'd at least call security or something. -
That's fucked up.
-
call toys r us head office?
-
I did that, and they told me that an executive would review my claim and get back to me by wednesday.
-
Thanks for all the help.
The Toys R Us corporate HQ put pressure on the store, and the manager took my return. It was pretty funny to see the same manager who laughed at me when I first tried to return it, since he was apparently the head manager. -
that's good. did they give any explanation for the incident?
-
Hahaha, holy crap. Someone actually replaced it with a real scale? Wow… That IS a story, no offense but I'd have found it hard to believe too.
Glad it all worked out.

I don't understand why the TRU employee opened the Wii Fit. If it was sealed and you had a receipt you should have been able to return it.
Hell, I would hot glue the seal and try to return it. If the previous customer could return it, you should be able too. I would try to return it later at night, when high school kids are working. I use to work with people in customer service and if you make a big enough commotion, they won't give a shit and give you your money back.
Edit: Shit, well I guess you dealt with it the right way.
-
Actually, I could swear I smelled rubber cement when I first bought it. That may have been a bad sign. >.>
I'm kind of surprised that the return went so flawlessly, as I was half expecting the manager to open the box again and have the incident repeat itself.
There wasn't any explanation for how or why it happened, and I suspect that they wanted to keep it quiet, so as not to attract media attention. I love toys r us as a chain, since they have great sales, and this IS the first time I've ever had to return something, so I'm fine with it not blowing up into a huge deal. Of course, you guys can tell whoever you want. >.> -

gruu, I loathe customers like you.
really, blue, Toys R Us has good prices? They've always been damn expensive for me.
-
Maybe I should rephrase that: they have good clearance prices. Whenever something goes on clearance, it usually takes days or even weeks to be marked, so bargain hunters such as myself have a fair chance to take advantage of them. At other stores, clearance is usually marked immediately, and it flies off the shelves if anyone wants it. There are probably still copies of Elite Beat Agents for 5 bucks at your local TRU. :p

Glad they did something about it, finally. With a little more force you could've made it into a lawsuit. (something I bet they were hoping to avoid)
