My guess is that whenever the war ends, half the series is done. Fishman Island will be part of the current arc and not a separate one.
How long will One Piece be? (Amount of Volumes/chapters)
-
-
I think so too because I think they will leave ID rather quickly actually but Oda stated at Jump Fiesta that "ID arc" would last a year at least which could be easily done off course by switching to the other SH's right when something really great is happening in ID like Luffy reaching Ace and Jinbei and every SH having it's own chapter or something but I think Luffy, after having saved Ace will be caught in the war, the others will come to save Luffy after hearing about his whereabouts at Shabaody and then we will see some awesome fighting with characters like Doflamingo and Aikanu. Getting to know where Luffy is will probably happen by means of newspaper or by Kuma who perhaps told Rayleigh what he was up to or perhaps thanks to intelligence of Dragon's revolutionaries or perhaps they will expect this much because they are going to execute Ace and know Luffy will save him or somebody will meat the Kuja and find out that way or. . . (there are tons of ways when I think about it actually)

@jonni503:
Uhhh, well, there was a rumor that Oda said he wants the completion of One Piece at around 150 volumes or 10~15 years, which means we're only about one third of the way. Let's only hope so.
There are also rumors that he will do a spinoff series on Zoro. (more raised hopes there..) BUT, those are only rumors circulating the Korean fansites.
yeah i also heard a rumor that Oda didn't want to go over the 1000 chapter mark lol, but he himself said that his only half way, its a good chance it will finish around 900-1000, be realistic i doubt it will go for another 15 years, that means Oda will be 50 i doubt it will go for that long. 1100 at best. The last arc will go for about 2 years. or something
-
but 1500 it too much specially for a manga like One Piece
-
OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAAAAAAND!!!

OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAAAAAAND!!!
nooooooooooooo i wont even be alive for the end :shocked::cwy::cwy:

I'd like to see chapters about the fights that Roger, Kidd, and Law had b4 the current one piece time.
Seriously, seeing how Law got started would be freaking awesome.

and it seems like oda has been fucking dawdling for ages now
i enjoy it at all, but it sort of seems like they could have been in the new world about 30 chapters ago
with impel down, the war, and the crew split up it's hard to believe that they'll enter the new world will start soon
-
It is the manga than never ends, it will go on and on my friends, Oda started drawing it, not knowing how it'll end, but we are all having fun reading til the cows come round again, it is the manga than never ends, it will go on and on my friends, Oda started drawing it, not knowing how it'll end, but we are all having fun reading til the cows come round again, it is the manga than never ends, it will go on and on my friends, Oda started drawing it, not knowing how it'll end, but we are all having fun reading til the cows come round again…
Okay I'm done.... Yeah uh... The manga should be at least more than 800 chapters by the end.

huh?…...........................................................................OH! I just now got that!
Anywho, I think One Piece is half way there (Because they finally reached the Red line). So until the crew finds each other again, I guess in about another ten years to never we should see something that comes close to an actually ending.
-
Ok currently theres (lets say 530 cuz its easier), about 55-70 Chapters on Impel Downs, 80-100 Chaps on Fishman island so on around chapter 650-700 They'll be in New World and then 400 Chapters on New World and about 150 on Raftel and the end so thats about 1250 Chapters all together, so it'll be like 11-13 years, but i doubt that long prob Impel Down and Fishman arc will be the same.
-
When Oda said Halfway do you think he meant as in the story or the volumes?
-
I predict this series to be about 845 chapters
-
I have a crazy theory (?)
East blue: 100 chapters
Grand line: 500 chapters
New World: 500 chapters -
Im from the future, year 2012 to be exact, yeah the mayans prediction really became true, OP will end at dec. 21, 2012. which is the 800th chapter of OP.
Seriously, I think OP will end at 1100 chapters so that means we still got 470 epic chapters left. I believe that we will only have 2-3 arcs on the new world, but each arc would be epic as hell.
East blue -100
Grand line -570
New World - 430 chaps
Raftel- 100 -
I both think and hope that it'll end at 900 chapters or something.
East Blue - 100
Grand Line - 500
New World - 200
Raftel and Finale - 100 -
I hope, unless Oda introduces new concepts (like Haki / Mantra / delving into specific plot lines like Void Century), that he doesn't draw out the New World / Raftel.
The whole Skypeia arc was too long, too unnecessary. It introduced mantra but not relevantly to our characters, and it shouldn't little growth for our characters besides Robin discovering Roger could understand the ancient language.
I enjoy arcs like the Alabasta or Water 7, where all the characters grow and we can see this tangible growth. Skypiea and Thriller Bark were "epic" in their own sense but saw little actual growth.
I'm excited for this Amazon Lily / Impel Down precisely for this reason: it seems like all of our characters will undergo some growth and at least Luffy will finally get a hold on Haki.
So, I don't really care how long OP goes, so as long as the arcs are more Alabasta / Water 7 than Thriller Bark / Skypiea in terms of character growth.
-
This is the story as it's progressed thusfar…
East Blue (Chapters 1-100)
Grand Line (Chapters 100-530-640)*
-Baroque Works (Chapters 100-217) Around 200 Chapters
-Skypiea (Chapters 217-304) Around 100 Chapters
-CP9 (Chapters 304-441) Around 150 Chapters
-Thriller Bark (Chapters 441-490) Around 50 Chapters
-Red Line (Chapters 490-PRESENT/530-~640)
New World (Chapters 640-)I'd imagine the stories in the New World will be less focused with organizations and more focused on the big entities the Strawhats have to face…such as Whitebeard, Shanks, the Supernovas, etc., That means that these sagas will probably either be shorter or less overarching (such as Skypiea and Thriller Bark), or will be longer and more encompassing (such as CP9 and Baroque Works). I'm hoping for the latter, since there is probably more to explore in the New World, the Strawhats will probably learn what few in the world have.
Geographically, we're probably far more than half way through already. We explored all of East Blue already, and stretched half of the Grand Line, and Raftel probably isn't even at the end of the Grand Line, so on that front, I'd say we're geographically closer. However, as the story line goes, I'd put the chapter number far and away above 1000.
-
Yeah after all the MQ is in the Grand Line, they wouldn't set it up in a dangerous place like New World. So i think New World will actually be shorter than in terms of chapters than Grand Line, but the Raftel will probably be the longest arc in the whole series. Currently the longest arc is Skypiea with 66 Chapters. How long you think that Fishman Island arc will go for? Because i think that Impel Down and the WG vs WB war will be in the same arc. So probably about 300-400 chapters of New World and 100 of Raftel. So thats about a year of Impel Down + The War 40-45, 60 of Fishman Island, then 400 Chapters of New World and Raftel.

Relax … Of course people that say that are joking , you don't have to take this serious ...
-
lol nah it just annoys me when people go off topic
on topic: about another 9-13 years.
-
I agree with Tookie that it will go for another 9-13 years 15 is too much
-
Oda is god, until Oda dies.
-
Anything less than 1000 will suck, as Oda will either:
-Change his rythm, which always involves taking away fun of the Manga.
-Makes the second part too short, which will suck ass.So, anything between 1000 and something like 2000 is good for me (More than 2000 is just too much)
-
Ok ok ok ok ok ok
Another 550-600 Chapters left which is 10-13 years -

The thing is, I think we're definitely far past the half way point, and that the amount of story to tell will start to diminish (SEE: Season 4 of Lost), and that there will be more answers instead of more questions. We are already starting to see it with Rayleigh. The answers are coming, and the series is beginning to wind down, though I'm sure it'll take 5 or so more years.
-
Oda himself doesn't know. He originally thought it was going to be a 5 year series, and completley underwestimated how long Skypedia would take, for instance.
The Red Line/Fishman island are THE halfway point on the grandline, so once we've passed those, the series is officially past the halfway point. What remains to be seen THEN, is the ammount of time spent on islands after that. If we get mostly 10 chapter stories like Laboon, Big Garden, Jaya, Foxy, Long Long Ring Island and the like, then it'll move pretty quickly… If we get huge arcs like Alabasta, Skypedia, Water 7 and Thriller Barks, (and I'm sure we will) which all take well over a year, then its going to be awhile. (To think Arlong was once the longest arc at a whopping 25 or so chapters...)
Especially since it fair to assume that the last adventure will be the biggest and longest, with cameos and reappaearances from.. pretty much everyone, I have to assume the final adventure will be everything plus the kitchen sink, 100 chapters or so. (About 2 years, which is about the length Water 7/Enies Lobby was).
I imagine the second half of the grandline will take about the same time as the first half, 5-7 years, with a couple huge arcs in the middle, plus a giant ass arc at the end, the same way shabondy/Amazon Lily/Impel Down/War/Reunion/Fishman Island is looking to be now. Unless Oda brings back the pace he had early on where we got 7 or 8 arcs in the first 100 chapters, but I don't forsee that happening.

underwestimated
The first thing I thought of.[hide][/hide]

didn't Oda state somewhere that after skypeia we were halfway through the story. . .? (could be just a rumour or just that I was misinformed)
I agree that fishmen island is the halfway point, geographically, but perhaps not in the story. You have to remember that there were quite a lot of chapters BEFORE the grand line so the red line shouldn't contain as much chapters as the grand line either. Still it is hard to guess seeing we have no idea what the new world will be like. Im hoping that there is like 9 or 10 years left.

When Oda did say it was Halfway did he mean in terms of chapters or storyline?
-
He's terrible at pacing.
Looking back about that halfway done after Skypeia he must mean half way done with the first half of the Grandline lol…..
-
one piece outta hurry up and end epicly. its kinda way long in my opinion.
still, hard to believe Oda initially planned on ending it at alabasta…lol imagine what THAT woulda been like....i mean, NO SKYPIEA....come on! -
I think Oda already has everything planned for the Fishman Island and the New World, So it will probably be like another 10 years (i hope) I'm sure Oda has other plans in mind too like his Mecha manga. Grand Line = Questions New World = Answers The New World will slowly start to unravel things. So were looking at around another 600 Chapters
-
I think it's important to remember that Oda originally had One Piece planned for what?…five years right?
And that changed.
I say the actual length is in flux no matter how often he says the story is halfway through. As long as he's enjoying his work and coming up with new ideas, the New World could last as long or as short as he wants it too.
-
End at Alabasta? Wow. That would have been odd.
I personally wasn't a big fan of the Skypiea arc, so it definitely dragged on for me. I loved it for the humor, but everything else was just alright for me.
In regards to length, robbybevard pretty much summed up my feelings. It will feel oddly lopsided if we spend more time on the first half of the GL than the last, so I'd give it an extra year or two than the first. With people like Kuma looming around, I'm intrigued for all the crazy loops and shotcuts the SH's will go through. I mean, a sky island? I don't think anyone saw that coming.
-
its gonna end around 1000 chapters so another 10-11 years, anything over that iss too long
-
How about you include the member names to the corresponding numbers in the first post?
-
how come you all can't take the fact that Luffy says he wanted about ten nakamas? And going into the New World doesn't mean he can't recruit anymore nakamas! And besides, Oda can fair well use any number from 1 to 10. And he chooses 10. Yet, you all think Oda thinks like you? (example : no 2 more nakamas..etc).
Are you Oda in the first place? Or you are the puppeteer controlling Oda?I think Oda will continue with One Piece until sales of One Piece drops so drastically, that he has to beg in the streets for money.
-
what?? are u saying
-
One of the things I find great about One Piece is that it's not big just for the sake of being big, it's because the whole universe is beyond the protagonist, like Ace X Kurohige, or all the flashbacks like the Norland in Skypiea (that was like ONE WHOLE VOLUME).
Berserk (1989) and Guyver (1985) are pretty much endless… I simply hope One Piece end someday, in 5~10 years will be OK for me. But for now we should just enjoy, there's not so many mangas like One Piece anymore, at least, not with this "classic vibration". I hope it tops JoJo no Kimiyou na Bouken (80 volumes) and turn into some epic stuff that future generations aproach with respect like some sort of Ashita no Joe!
-
agreed eeeed eeeeed
-
End at Alabasta? Wow. That would have been odd.
If I understand right, Oda never intended to end it at Alabasta (he's said that he's had the end of One Piece in mind from the beginning and it hasn't changed), it's just that he originally planned on the entire series taking 4-5 years, but it has ended up taking much longer than he thought, and at the end of that original deadline he was only up to the end of Alabasta.
-
i think it'll end on 1000

Everyone is saying "For the sake of Oda's sanity not over 1000",but I mean, he only ment for it to last 5 years. If he didnt enjoy what he was doing, he would have already stopped. The fact of the matter is, he likes his job, his story, and he knows that he has tons of fans, so he keeps going.
-
100 volumes! I think Oda has established all of the mysteries of the One Piece world, and now he will spend his time solving them.
Then again, this is Oda we're talkin about. But I don;t think it will go past 200 volumes.
-

Not only for Oda’s sake but also for our own, as you know the older you get the worse you are when you’re doing something, Oda will get older and with age he will at some point tire himself more than he does now and the quality of the manga may reflect that. It’s one of the reasons people retire when they are too old, they no longer can do their job right.
