Tate working on the Dragon Ball movie will probably depend on who the animation supervisor is. After how poorly he was treated on Dragon Ball Super I really hope he participates to receive a chance to claim a victory.

One Piece Episode 831:
Storyboard and Episode Director: Yusuke Suzuki
Animation Director: Kenji YokoyamaInteresting not seeing Takagi or Hisada after Isochi, this means that they're really saving ADs for the Tea Party and that's when we'll probably see Hisada, Takagi, Matsuda, Kimitaka Ito and maybe Inoue and Koizumi
-
Episode 830 with kata introduction will be really good,Komaki will do good job like in 824,i thinking who will animate introduction…

What is the information on the OP summer special this year? I heard a lot about it but I haven't been able to get anything by googling.
-
We don't know yet. All we do know is that it exists and that Studio Guts (outsource studio that Isochi, Yukiko Nakatani, and Shingo Fujisaki belong to) is likely shouldering the main workload since they tweeted about revealing the character designer in the future.
Speaking of twitter, an observation I saw today:
Dragon Ball Super (131 episodes)
- 5 series directors
- 4 Toei Animation producers
- 3 production managers
One Piece (800+ episodes)
- 5 series directors
- 6 Toei Animation producers
- 8 production managers
Jesus Christ.
-
One Piece anime really isn't getting much love from Toei it seems.
-
One Piece anime really isn't getting much love from Toei it seems.
It's a disposable eight hundred episode cartoon. So, yeah. Bound to happen.
-
One Piece anime really isn't getting much love from Toei it seems.
If you're talking about the info above, that doesn't mean it isn't getting any love. Super has such a shitty production schedule that series directors come and go in short rounds. One Piece having 5 directors in 800 episodes isn't bad. The anime is getting love, just look at the staff lists and recent episodes
-
Yes that's true, makes sense. I like the recent effort put into the anime, the animation director has been great. His art alone has done a lot to elevate the entire show to a higher level.
-
like i said before, this arc has really great animation , except the fight between luffy and cracker And that was because of special episode of east blue (2hour)
I dont know if they're going to do another special episode this year, but I hope they dont , because This will affect the upcoming episodes Especially as we are heading to the beginning of Tea Party! -
So for those wondering what Shintani's been up to lately, it was just announced that he's the animation director for the upcoming Dragon Ball movie.
-
We know if someone from dragonball super staff will be back to one piece or already is?
-
There hasn't been a whole lot of overlap historically between One Piece's and Super's staff as far as I know. Well we have confirmation on Shida I suppose, but he doesn't quite count. Takeo Ide I don't think is going anywhere since he hasn't contributed to One Piece on a regular basis in years, and I'd prefer Shimanuki stay away unless he seriously ups his game. Tate would be the dream but I'm certainly not holding my breath.
-
If tate nad onishi comeback and do luffy fight .
-
Since Shintani's designs for Movie #20 look so good. I bet Tate and Oonishi are going to clamor to work on this movie, especially since Nagamine is directing. We might just be in store for another Film Z.
-
@Yuugi's:

That sounds cool.
-
This has nothing to do with One Piece, but did you all see Tate's work on the latest episode of DBS?
-
both Tate and shida Did Really Great work in DBS 130, I am very happy for their last work in Super, I hope to see them in the movie and then One Piece , why not
-
Toei didn't start another series in the fall of last year for people like Inoue and Koizumi to work on, so that's likely why they've been working on One Piece since the fall. So we should likely be seeing them throughout the rest of the year on One Piece before whatever series they're working on next starts up which is probably the next Saint Seiya that's airing in 2019
-
I wonder what this can be,any ideas?
-
I bet it's Perospero's Candy Escalator
-
I will prefer more katakuri introduciton if we are talking about ep 830 but this could even be something 20-30 chapter later. I hope we will see more koizumi and ishizuka on tea party.
-
I'm personally betting on it being the Luffy's jumping out of the cake
-
@Elektrik:
I bet it's Perospero's Candy Escalator
#830 will be a Guts episode, so it's not likely that Shida will join.
-
Komaki will do a good job on ep 830 and Isochi is animation director,i think this will be a very good episode.
-
I thinking now and i want to know what do you guys think about that. They will censor something when katakuri will shot this man in the head in next week episode? I think they will censor blood coming out of his head.
-
Very likely they'll censor it, then again they didn't censor Pedro ripping his eye out. I think it depends on the director how much blood is censored, but they seem to be fairly strict around injuries to the head.
-
Do not forget that they showed Capone stabbing a human in the heart, with blood and everything. So, it really depends, but it really seems they are more than willing to slip some blood here and there.
-
Usually any damage to the head, they shy away from. For whatever reason. So I expect them to do the same here.
-
Seems so far that we've only lost Urata to Kitaro so provided that he's not a supervisor on an upcoming episodes of it, Koizumi should be sticking with One Piece
-
New staff list is out if anyone can translate
-
The stuff list is translate with google translator so if someone know japanese and can correct me then do this. Can someone tell us opinion about stuff for upcoming episodes, if we can expect good episodes or not.
Episode 832: The Kiss of Death! The Yonko Assassination Plan Begins! Script: Tanaka Nitori, Episode Director: Yoshihiro Ueda, Animation Supervisor: Masayuki Takagi
Episode 833: Offering up a Sake Cup! Chivalrous Jinbe repays his debt! Script: Tomohiro Nakayama, Episode Director: Hiroyuki Sato, Animation Supervisor: Shigenobu Aragaki?
Episode 834: The plan failed!? Big Mom Pirates Counterattack! Script: Shonji Yonemura, Episode Director: Satoshi Ito, Animation Supervisor: Masahiro Kitazaki
Episode 835: run Sanji! SOS Germa 66! For this episode we can see only title.
-
"Shigenobu Aragaki" is Shigefumi Shingaki I'm pretty sure. What the hell? Kitazaki after just 6 weeks and Shingaki after 4? What is going on? Is the translation just wrong?
-
Shingaki was in 827 and will be in 833 so this will be 6 weeks too, like Kitazaki was in 828 and will be in 834. Komaki was in 824 and 830 so this is 6 weeks too, Ueda was in 827 and will be in 832, Yokoyama was in 825 and will be in next episode 831 so all have 6 weeks break (Ueda 5 weeks) , 6 weeks is too short or what? If you can explain this to me because i'm new in animation.
-
Oh right, I was confusing #827 with #829
6 weeks isn't hopeless but it's definitely not ideal. I'm surprised we don't have a longer rotation though.
I guess the really regular folk are:
Masayuki Takagi
Toshio Deguchi
Shigefumi Shingaki
Masahiro Kitazaki
Kenji Yokoyama
Shuuchi ItoKazuya Hisada (When he's not busy designing Oda's endless amounts of characters and directing various things, usually important episodes where consistency is important)
and less often we seem to have:
Yusuke Isouchi / Fujisaki Shingo (Guts)
Midori Matsuda
Maaaaaybe Eisaku Inoue?
Maaaaaybe Noboru Koizumi?I was definitely expecting to see some bigger names for the tea party, I can't really hide my disappointment this time around..
-
For disappointment is to early i think, we must wait and see episodes and then we can judge if this was bad or not. Maybe we will have some more people deeper in tea party.
-
There's also Kimitaka Ito but he hasn't been all that frequent and hasn't made much of a splash. Takagi doesn't feel as prolific as he's been in years past, but his quality has gone up. Anyway, Ito's a good director and Sato's decent, so I'm not concerned, and there are plenty more chapters/episodes to go.
-
There used to be two weeks' breaks guys.
ED:
Ueda +6 weeks
Sato +12 weeks
Ito +11 weeksAD:
Takagi +11 weeks
SHingaki +7 weeks
Kitazaki +6 weeksIn addition, now the staff are also busy making the special animation that will be shown in One Piece Tower from late April, and it's not weird seeing the special animation taking some animators (including animation directors) and directors away from the TV series.
Besides, since Koizumi's last episode was #816, let's prepare for his possible leaving, again. Inoue too.
The following episodes will be back to 1 episode : 1 chapter ratio.
-
Weird. Shingaki was just in Seattle for a weekend last week, so I'm surprised he's in a rotation so soon.
-
Oh right, I totally forgot about the breaks they had. I'm not expecting Koizumi to stick around, I just hold on to the possibility since he didn't touch OP for years, and then suddenly, out of the blue, came back as the top credited KA on the Heart of Gold Special and went on to supervise #808 and #816.
As for Inoue, he was the second credited key animator on #828, which is why Kitazaki was so unrecognizable apart from a few short instances.
With Toei's 2018 shows kicking into gear it's hard to say who will stick around and who will go on to other things.
-
Don't freak out, the episodes will look fine. Takagi has had more than enough time to make an amazing episode to kick off the action, Shingaki is being paired with a great director and Kitazaki is skilled in action. We also have Shida confirmed to be doing key animation, likely Ishizuka doing some too and Hisada and Kimitaka Ito will likely show up soon for Animation Directing too. After the past 4 months of stellar episodes, I don't see why everyone is worrying. Plus we've had weeks off so relax
-
Shida show today picture of his desk and we can see Reiju with headphones, i check this and until transformation she dont heve headphones so shida will probably do germa transformation scene + Fukazawa said they will put effort to transformation so this must be germa transformation. One Piece episode 835: "Run, Sanji – SOS! Germa 66”
Screenplay: Kisa Miura
Episode director: Yoshinori Koyama
Storyboard: Yoshinori Koyama
Animation director: Shūichi Itō -
Last episode with Koyama and Ito (ep 829) was good so i hope ep 835 will be as good as 829 or even better.
-
Koizumi is on Kitaro so it looks like he won't be on the Tea Party
-
I hope Inoue will stay with One Piece and we will see him on Tea Party.
-
I hope Inoue will stay with One Piece and we will see him on Tea Party.
He's likely still on One Piece because he did key animation on 825 and 828 whereas Koizumi hasn't been on the show since 816
-
So, remember how I mentioned in the past that I was planning to work on a new animation director comparison chart for the anime? Well I'm happy to say that I am finally ready to present it! It's not completely perfect, required some guesswork, and is necessarily incomplete in places thanks to the crew being separated for such a long time at this point, but I believe it's good enough at the moment to serve its purpose as an all-in-one-place visual reference. There are two things to know first though:
1. I decided to use the start of the current arc as my cutoff point, so only the ADs who have worked on the show from episode 783-on are represented.
2. I have not included any who've only served as co-ADs, meaning that I've omitted Inoue and Yasuko Fukumoto (Fukumoto doesn't really have enough material to work with anyway). If either of them end up helming an episode solo, then I will update appropriately.Actual size (sadly since the original is over 20MB imgur knocks it down to a jpeg; the original doesn't have those ugly artifacts I assure you):
!
Some of my own observations and notes:- Ichikawa's Zoro and Usopp were taken from the Heart of Gold special instead of the TV series since in episode 767 they were either making faces or too far in the background to be usable. Finding good non-Ichikawa shots of Sanji during Totland has been a pain in the ass and a lot like hunting a unicorn thanks to how heavily he's been micro-managing the character.
- Likewise, Takagi's Franky is from the Nevlandia special since I got sick and tired of failing to find a usable Franky in his post-timeskip episodes.
- Go home Deguchi, you're drunk.
- I never paid much attention to Isochi's Brook before this. It's kind of scary.
- Ito started adding the line shading that mark him as mini-Ichikawa right before episode 767.
- I miss Takara. I can understand if some found his style ugly, but it had character and lent itself to animation superbly well. I hope he's just taking a leave of absence like Kitazaki did and isn't gone for good like Nakatani and Kawamura seem to be.
- It feels to me that Matsuda is being positioned as Hisada's understudy, and I deliberately chose similar Luffy shots for each of them to illustrate that.
- Out of all the ones here, Kimitaka Ito's shots are the ones that I'm the least confident in actually being his because I don't have a good grasp on his style and his few episodes haven't featured many good shots to study. I basically just poured over his two uploads on the sakugabooru for reference. I'm definitely replacing that Luffy when a better shot comes along.
- I said earlier in the thread that I never got a handle on Kitazaki's style, but now I can see he has a pretty distinctive blocky style of shading. He reminds me of a weaker Kawamura.
- There was a more familiar representation of Koizumi's Luffy in episode 808 but his face was so covered in scuff marks that I passed on it. I can change it if others feel I should.
- Fujisaki's Nami looks very KyoAni to me there. It's in the positioning of the eyes and mouth. There was a shot of Carrot in his solo debut episode that was kind of similar but not as strongly.
I plan to post this on reddit too (hence my reddit handle at the bottom there) but if anyone wants to post this on twitter or Oro Jackson or wherever they're free to do so as long as my credit at the bottom isn't removed or altered.
