Luckily it seems like Hisada took on the brunt of the work on 824 so Deguchi won't be too bad and Ichikawa will probably correct a lot of 826 like he has with all of Deguchi's episodes in this arc. Seems like they're being conservative and saving all the great ADs for when the Tea Party starts which is great. Considering that Fukuzawa was hyping up this year for One Piece, I wonder if we'll see Koizumi and Inoue pop up during the Tea Party
Guesstimating on which episode's covering which chapter, lol of course Shingaki will handle that one. Looks like my guess that Matsuda is on this week's ep was incorrect unless she's just key animating.

Here's a translation of Namie Amuro's comment about the special version of OP 20 in Episode 825, thanks to r/translator:
“I’m very honored to have been chosen to sing the theme song of One Piece and collaborate with the creators on its planning. I hope this song, an adventure brought to you by myself and the Straw Hat Pirates, is filled with dreams and gives you hope and courage.” So the special version of the OP will probably be Amuro adventuring with the crew, I'm sure we'll have someone here recording the special version if it isn't in the simulcast though I'm sure it will be. It looked like Midori Matsuda's art in the promo so she'll probably be supervising it
I hope that's just hype speak and not literal because I remember that time Tackey & Tsubasa were added to Crazy Rainbow and it was most hilarious and cringey thing ever because they looked super-lost and out of place.

It's been a while since I've last seen a Katsumi Ishizuka cut in the anime (outside of Episode of East Blue).
When was the last time we saw him, Punk Hazard?
He did some very minor stuff in Dressrosa, some crowd stills during the sequence where Usopp takes out Sugar once and for all being the last cuts I can remember. It was the highlight of a very, very bad episode.
Smoker vs. Vergo was the last time he got to go all-out before Episode of East Blue, yes. Apparently he's been mainly working on Toei movies and specials lately.

Yeah, that's Tomita. I doubt that they would waste the first time they get Shida to key animate in months on the second version of an opening that he already did key animation on, because I'm sure that his Fourth Gear cut will still be in V3. Can't wait to see what he ends up doing when the episode that he key animated on comes around
The staff really have much more confidence than previous arc in past then years. Production schedule also seems to be better now.
Awesome! I wonder which part of the opening they are gonna swap out? Probably the Jimbei punch, Brook ghost, and Pedro fight parts, right?

i just wanna mention that the animation is really good in this arc , in that never happened before expect : thriller park and marineford , and now if they continue at this rythm i must say , this is the best arc in term of animation since the anime started , im so happy
Without forgetting the return of some of the old supervisors like : Noboru Koizumi ,inoue,katsumi ishizuka, okuzawa akihiro
even the color palett of characters is beautiful and gave life to the character especially Luffy

Admittedly I'm fine with Guts taking on the brunt of the work on the special, it means that there's an effort to keep the staff on the show instead of having them work on the special
Same, I'd much rather they outsource the specials, and keep the focus on the main series so it stays strong like its been
Studio guts is part of the tv animation but best believe the summer special going to have some of the tv anime staff.
Yeah, people seem to not remember, but the first one of the "Episode of" series of specials had its character designs done by Nakatani, a member of Guts studio, and a staple member of the One Piece AD rotation back then.
Of course, despite having the character designer and chief animation directior technically be an outsider of Toei, the special itself had few of Toei's animators, including the likes of Shingaki, Urata, Kuroyanagi, and Ishizuka.
Admittingly, that special had way less animators from Toei, but that was mainly due to giving many of the key animation to other studios.
Obviously, this might not be the case for the upcoming special, but one can only hope. And I actually think it's more likely to have more outsourcing than not.
Currently, what concerns me the most are the directors, because sometimes these specials had up to 5 storyboard artists including some of the ones working in the show, but if the upcoming special has a better planning, it'll probably be just one director.
Regarding the special itself, I've high hopes for whoever does the character designs for the special, who'll most likely be Isouchi. And despite his occasional extreme proportions for females, I think he can deliver pretty decent if not great character designs. Btw, his style seems to be immensly similar to that of Ichikawa's, which I believe a considrable number of people here noticed. Actually, now that I think about it, this could probably be the main reason they chose him for the special, especially with Ichikawa's style being highly regarded both here and in Toei itself.

On a side not, personally I hope the special will have an original story instead of just readapting an old arc, primarily because of pacing issues, but also because I can't think of an older arc other than Skypia, Thriller Bark, and Marineford, last one being something that will require them to pull all the stops, of course that's if the new story doesn't portray some of the Strawhats bafly like Heart of Gold and isn't a snorefest like Nebulandia.
Skypeia would be hard to do as a single 105 minute special, but I think they could pull off Marineford. I kind of suspect they'll try to recreate something post-timeskip, though.
Also, damn, another special just four months before Dragon Ball Movie #20? Eek.

I actually wish we'd just can it with the annual specials - they're never really that good. They're usually subpar recaps with prettier (SOMETIMES) animation. Besides I'd love to see the Wanted One-shots animated at some point.

Episode of Luffy was the first one. But it was a full out-sourced special.
Nebulandia really caused a big trouble to the show.
