Sodden Cigarette End - The Night Before Sanji's Marriage
One Piece Episode 817 PV (Moist Cigarette - The Night Before Sanji's Wedding): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wReUw6RENJEU_Rgnd7IGd9vrWQRovT3L
Don't know if this is the correct thread, but since it still regards animation why not :ninja:
So i was scrolling facebook just now and i noticed a recommended link by the italian amazon page, this thing:
Never heard of it before, apparenlty it has every One Piece movie and some tv specials, in blue-ray or dvd, it comes out december 15 ( other pages says december 12 tough )
If it has only the italian dub or dual audio japanese / italian that i do not know, but should be like that ( i hope )
This has surprised me because in Italy the One Piece anime is on hiatus since 2014 ( last aired episode was 563, during Fishman Island arc )
Is this coming out in other countries too?

It's been quite a while since we got so many new or unexpectedly returning names. I really hope Takara hasn't stepped down from the animation director position though. At least he's still working as a key animator.

Well, it looks like he's exclusively doing key animation now, but I'm not really sad about that. I'm excited to see where his work can go in the future.
One Piece VR Holographic Theatrical Experience! http://www.onepiecepodcast.com/2017/09/29/brand-new-one-piece-vr-holographic-theatrical-experience/
The next batch of staff's been out for about a week now:
821: Yusuke Suzuki/Shuuichi Ito (w. Endo's storyboards)
822: Kentaro Fujita/Masahiro Kitazaki
823: Hiroyuki Sato/Masayuki Takagi
Sato used to be a semi-regular member of the director rotation, joining at the end of Enies Lobby and the last episode he did was the start of the Fishman Island flashback (also Isochi's debut episode). His episodes seem to be alright from what little I can remember of them, though the content of his episode from this batch doesn't seem to be all that important in the scheme of things.
The animation director for this week's episode, Shingo Fujisaki, originally handled the second half of 806 and a couple other Nakatani episodes, so that's looking promising. Studio Guts does good work.

One Piece #824 Staff:
Animation Director: Hisada & Deguchi
Storyboard and Episode Director: Komaki
I love that they're pairing weak and or new ADs with experienced and great ADs so the episodes can look great along with Ichikawa's corrections
Shida said on Twitter that he'd love to do another bit of key animation but the schedule doesn't suit and he now realises it, probably meaning that the episodes are being produced at a faster rate than how he produces animation. He'll probably be back soon obviously because he was in the latest OP and everyone on that OP still does KA for the show, they'll just give the episode that he's on the production time needed so it's nothing to worry about

He's probably talking about HIS OWN schedule, which means he's busy with other stuff, 99% it being DBS arc finale and Kirakira Precure finale (or maybe the upcoming Hugtto or Kitaro). I find no problem here since there's no significant fights going to happen till maybe April, and the fact that there are plenty of talented people working on One Piece and Toei shows in general.
I believe he is indeed referring to his own schedule. He basically has other commitments and cannot simply say "I'll help you after I'm finished" because nobody knows where the One Piece production will be when he's next available in March or April.
EDIT: Oh, that's right. Shida confirmed that he spent about two months working on One Piece Film Gold. He pulled off that 3:30 fight scene in two months. Wow.

True, that does make a lot more sense. I'm thinking that he'll probably appear in one of these three possible points during the Tea Party
1. The Luffy's jumping out of the cake
2. Germa 66 transformation scene
3. Fourth Gear and Big Mom clashing
And the amount of time that it took to make his Film Gold cut is insane, love Shida so much
I kinda want to see Shida doing some character animation instead of usual action heavy seizure mouth action sequences. His Smoker/Doffy cut and Law/Doffy cut were really cool.
So we talk a lot about animation, but I rarely hear anyone talk about the art, more specifically the background art. With that said, what are some of your favourite episodes in terms of art? Which episodes looked the most stunning? What are some of the art directors to look out for? (I assume they rotate just like the rest of the staff?)
The opening episode of Zo (by which I mean the one where they actually reached the top of the elephant and ended with the Straw Hats encountering Wanda and Carrot) is one that immediately comes to mind. Nothing mind blowing animation-wise, but the art was Yokoyama at his best, and it was the lighting that was the true star. The sunrise lighting was incredibly atmospheric and sold the mystical nature of the place.
Another more off the beaten path choice of mine would be the campfire scenes with the old man in those filler episodes during the Luffy/Ace/Sabo flashback for, again, the lighting. I also liked the first episode of the Marine Supernova arc in how they put together the Navy base and made sure to have all the individual marines look much more distinct than usual, even adding a handful of female ones. The following two episodes were more standard in the art direction department.

It's difficult to discuss art directors when there are just two of them working on the tv series.
Well, I'll give my brief opinion about the subject. While the backgrounds vary drastically depending on the director and the layout artist (usually the key animator), and only the known ones are the extremely talent, I can still say the art directors working on the One Piece series are definitely good.
Grest to see the legendary Komaki back in the director seat.
I use post great brackground art in this thread.
My fav is ace/sabo arc, zou, the story hats individual side story arc when they where split up.
The best backgrouds are normally found in flashack strories.
Dragon Ball Super is ending in March, so I guess we'll probably see the return of Shimanuki and maybe Tate soon

… Wait.. Ending ending?! I haven't heard this news before

Well damn… That should be around the time of the Wedding ceremony I suspect, so hype to have a lot of amazing animation for that part of the arc!
It'll probably return next year. Good thing for Super, maybe it can fix its schedule. Crossing my fingers that we'll see Tate and Onishi come back. Fukuzawa was apparantly hyping this year for OP, so I'm excited!

Let's hope they don't go to Kitaro's new series.
I'm okay with Shimanuki staying off of One Piece, thanks. Well, key animating would be okay I guess since his better modern stuff reminded me if Toshiharu Sugie, but he was stinking up the joint as an animation director by the end of his One Piece tenure.
I honestly think that Shimanuki and Ide will return with maybe some of the other supervisors that Super has gathered together if they aren't working on the new movie. Definitley going to be seeing some old and new key animators on the show from Super as well (fingers crossed for Tate for supervision and key animation)
I imagine Tate will be off working on the film. Hell, most of Dragon Ball Super's main key animators will probably be working on the film coming out in December.

It's highly unlikely for Ide to not work on the movie, the chances for someone like him, who happens to be the second most iconic current animator working on Dragon Ball to leave, are extremely low. And just like what Crossword said, Shimanuki is better off away from One Piece. As for Naoki Tate, while it's hard to guess since he didn't work on Fukkatsu no F, I still expect him to work on the upcoming Dragon Ball movie.
@Yuugi's:

I won't say most, because Dragon Ball Super had double the amount of normal staff, mainly due to scheduling issues (and being so heavy on action on weekly basis), but still. Movies don't consume a lot of staff, or at least doesn't get that amount to stay busy for 9 months, and if we took the possibility that some freelance will join the key animation team, which most likely will happen, it's safe to assume that plenty of animators will leave. So people like Yoichi Onishi and Yasuhiro Namatame might not stick with the franchise, specially if the hypothetical new dragon ball series gets a proper planning. There's also the fact that other than Kitaro, Toei is also working on a new project called Bakutsuri Bar Hunter, that'll likely be a new tv anime starting in April, so both that and Kitaro will likely grab a couple of people out of Dragon Ball. That's also a reason for why I think the chances of anybody moving to One Piece is pretty low.
Most of DBS (in-house) animators will attend the movie, and it's confirmed that Tu will join the Precure team.
There might be gaps between the movie and TV if the storyboard wasn't finished that early, so some animators might attend One Piece for a while after the finishing of DBS TV.
In addition, according to the main staff list of Kitaro, it seems that this show is made mainly by the former Appmon team.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Direction wise, it's confirmed that Yutaka Nakashima will also return to One Piece. He's drawing storyboard for an episode now.
In Episode of East Blue, Hiroyuki Sato was the episode director of Usopp and Sanji Parts, and in Sanji Part he also did the storyboard. So indeed Sato has already returned to One Piece for quite a while.
I wonder what Nakamura Ryouta will be doing, then. He's probably storyboarding and directing Episode #130 or #131 right now. He's done some great boards before, so it'll be interesting to see where he goes afterward.
Looks like Shida wants to work on Luffy vs Katakuri
!
Super Is Ending Soon Noooo T_T
Im so sad
lol at someone asking if he's had pineapple pizza.
! Another scene I could see Shida doing is part of the Sulong Carrot sequence since it has a lot of zooming and gliding motion that would easily fit his style. Even if he doesn't draw it I'm interested in how it's going to look since between Dragon Ball, Digimon, and Pretty Cure Toei has a lot of experience with that kind of thing.
He thinks early One Piece character design was wonderful. I feel so validated.

Wow, I love his style  So hype and can't wait
Shida said that he's adjusted his schedule for the One Piece staff so he can participate and now he will participate on the show soon: https://twitter.com/naoV47/status/956894631823753216?ref_src=twcamp%5Eshare%7Ctwsrc%5Em5%7Ctwgr%5Eemail%7Ctwcon%5E7046%7Ctwterm%5E0
So he'll probably be doing something in the Tea Party
It looks like we're getting Shintani this week as well.

Can anyone tell me why they're soooo inconsistent with the heights? Luffy looks like an absolute dwarf. Not only are characters not standing upright, but they're counting his Straw Hat as being part of his height?
Can someone translate this? I wanted to know about the upcoming Netflix-News!!!!
It says that the anime is now going to be available for streaming on Netflix in Japan.
It says that the anime is now going to be available for streaming on Netflix in Japan.
Only in Japan? Too bad, because in Germany we don´t have a Simulcast for "One Piece" legally.
Well it's a first step and Netflix is global. So it can happen
Can some tells me, from where these information-pages comes? Weekly Shounen Jump?
They are indeed from JUMP.
Hm, looks like they must be moving Katakuri's introduction up to the episode after next.
