There isn't even enough action content in the one piece manga to support the justification of all those action animators, last 5 years most of the best animation are all filler scenes the animators or storyboarders just add.
Look at smoker vs vergo as an example 90% is all filler with top notch animation.
There's all ready plenty of talented animators and directors on the rota currently.
Was going through some old skypiea episodes and I noticed how Koizumi's style really reminded me of Ishizuka's, especially in their sharp, sketchy line art, thick nose shadows and oval eye shape. I don't know if Ishizuka actually drew inspiration from Koizumi, but looking at some of the clips by him in #808, I just found it really fascinating how much his style reminded me of Ishizuka.
I also noticed that too , they have the same style in drawing almost

Is it just me or have they been experimenting with a post processing filter? It hasn't been used a lot yet but it gives everything a brighter look that makes it all stand out a bit. It was used a little bit during OP 20 and the most recent episode

It was with the food during the musical in the last episode, it made them look bright and as if the sun was shining on them
Cross-posting from the episode thread, but this week's JUMP had a page showing off the anime design artwork for several members of the Charlotte family and other members of the crew, including that Long-Arm girl who's shown up in a couple panels here and there, even giving her a name and confirming her a Charlotte. I bring this up because the staff said that Oda showed them his notebook containing all his sketches and information on the Whole Cake Island cast of characters beforehand, and this is probably the first instance visible to us the viewers of that paying off, since that's something that not even the manga or SBS has shown.

Interestingly enough this week's JUMP has a page showing off the anime designs of a couple of the army members (Opera, Mont d'Or, Amande, etc.), including that girl (whose name is something like Charlotte Mukle - I can't really think how that would be properly romanized ATM). It's interesting seeing a full character design for such a throwaway background character most people wouldn't even notice, though it makes sense why they would need one.
! Perhaps she will see some action if there's a final showdown at Cacao Island before the cake's completed.

In this instance, I personally forgive Oda for these underutilized designs because this man is racing time with his manga. It's literally impossible for Oda to give all these characters something to do without destroying the progression/pacing of the arc, WCI would have been a 5 years long arc or something, and even then, we still got dozens of characters that play an important part in this arc.
On the other hand, as the anime will most likely expand on the manga, I hope some of these unnamed characters to at least get couple more lines and maybe, just maybe, showcase their abilities (only when it's appropriate).

! For example, when Jinbe was blocking the attacks from three unnamed characters at the wedding, it would be neat if the give each one a unique attack. Or maybe give the fireball shooting guy a bit more variety, at least we know his specialty is fire. Last but not least, why not give Nusstorte, a character that was kept unnamed until his name dropped when he was defeated, some time to shine, maybe even show him marching to the Germa66 Kingdom.
It's a bit weird how this character we mentioned in the episode discussion immediately shows up in the magazine, what a coincidence!

Yeah they did, but it was a little different in that scene which shows that they're experimenting with it. They've used it in some promotional screenshots on the One Piece website too so I hope that they plan on using it for the show in general soon because it makes everything pop out even more
As someone who really dislikes the changes made to the palette after the timeskip, an increase in contrast would be a very welcome change. Here's hoping.

It's worth noting that Tomita and Inoue are from the same group. Either way, it definitely does resemble Inoue. His style (especially on Nami) is so recognizable with the round jaws and ahem…. female assets.
I honestly wouldn't be that surprised if we ended up seeing him again after working on the Sengoku period tv shorts a short while ago.
It obviously COULD just be Tomita's key animation (Or even better, supervising!) but my money is on Inoue for now.

Tomita and Inoue have completely different styles. I can recognise his Nami anywhere and that was definitely his style.
I'm on Team Tomita. In the shot of Luffy with his head shadowed and bowed the shadows are drawn in that super stark, bold, mecha style that Tomita uses quite a bit and that Inoue never did.

Well yeah, that part specifically was done by Tomita. But the scene in the beginning where Nami was sitting up looked like Inoue. You can low-key see his style on Luffy when he's banging his head on the bars and when he's yelling at the Den den mushi.
Maybe I'm wrong and it wasn't Inoue but it does look crazy similar.
I am having second thoughts, but the Nami shots just look so much like him. I guess we'll have to wait for the main staff list. (Should be out soon, yeah?)
Inoue could be possibly letting up and letting Tomita do his thing but if he's not supervising, he's definitely doing a good amount of key animation because there are many scenes that look like him in the NEP like what has been listed above and many more

So those shots that looked like Inoue in the preview for 813 were probably key animation by him because he isn't supervising. Tomita is obviously doing key animation on it too, as evident by the end of the preview, but his KA never really looks like Inoue to me aside from when he would work under him. Inoue comes back to One Piece from time to time to do some key animation so I'm sure it's him though, especially since Tiger Mask W wrapped recently. If it is him, or even if it's the style that Kimitaka Ito has finally developed for himself as the newest AD, then I'll be surprised

He co-supervised 808 with Yokoyama and he's already back so he's definitely a regular
Since it's been eight episodes since his last episode I imagine he and his wife Izumi Kyouko will probably be able to do all of the key animation for #816 by themselves, too.

Koizumi's episode usually look good. He's a good action animator and his character art doesn't suffer, so his Izumi probably covers most of that stuff. Go watch his Tiger Mask W stuff.

Huh, well. If Kitazaki and more importantly Koizumi are back on board as semi-regulars at least that throws more than a bit of extra work my way in terms of completing that comparison chart I've mentioned, but that's fine. While I admit that I've cooled a bit on Koizumi's designs themselves, his animation when he's gone solo have been low-key fun to watch and there was definitely some Ishizuka-ness about his shading during the special. Funny how that went kind of in reverse. It looks like his episode might cover chapter 850 which has some pretty big moments
! Pedro vs. Baron Tamago and the reveal that Pudding's evil so assuming they don't chop it up (a big assumption) it could be a very promising episode. Hosoda's a bit of a wildcard as a director, though.
I also see that Miho Hirayama is back in the director's seat for the first time in a little bit which is good since I've liked what I've seen from her episodes so far. Matsuda too; I don't think she's been in the animation director's chair since the Marine Supernova filler.
Kimitoshi Chioka (First series director for dragon ball super) is also onboard it seems.
I had my suspicions that Koizumi would go on to become a regular again after the special, but man am I happy to see him on board. His sharp style and awesome action sequences are something else. As crossword said, him and Ishizuka have a lot of resemblances. My guess would be that Koizumi inspired Ishizuka, so if he's back then maybe Ishizuka will be back also?! This increase in ADs makes me wonder if we'll see more episodes overseen by multiple supervisors, or perhaps some other supervisors stepping back to focus on key animation. We haven't seen Isamu Takara since #802, which makes me a bit worried since I really like his style.

Looks like Isamu Takara is focusing more on key animation now that new ADs have been added. Really looking forward to seeing where his work can go in the future.
Also, Ishizuka was KA on DBS #115 it seems. Fingers crossed that we'll see some stuff from him on One Piece very soon.

I assume animators like sticking with supervisors that have similar styles to their own, the same way you find Yukihiro Urata on a lot of Tate's later episodes or Yoshikazu Tomita on a lot of Inoue's episodes.
Ishizuka recently worked on Episode #115 of Dragon Ball Super, which would be three weeks prior to #816 airing, so if he does appear on Koizumi's episode, it probably won't be anything spectacular.

I'm crossing my fingers! The next episode is directed by Masahiro Hosoda (:getlost:) so hopefully we'll atleast have some stellar animation to look forward to.
