question about pratchett though, is it nescesarry to start from book 1 when reading about discworld or can you step in at any point in the series???

Still working my way through "Zen and the art of Motorcycle Maintenance" and I just started Neil Strauss' book, "EMERGENCY: This Book Will Save Your Life", which has got me thinking about what would happen if society did indeed collapse.

A few days ago, I started "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon. It's a historical fiction about a woman who accidently goes back in time to 18th century Scotland. I heard that romance takes a large bit of focus in the plot, but I doubt that'll bog it down.

I would definately recommend HP Lovecraft, though he mainly does short stories. He has a few short novels, though. I'm not sure what kind of horror you're looking for; Lovecraft's horror focuses on things like forbidden knowledge, alien species, etc. You should go look up some of his stories, you can read them in a lot of places, even on Wikipedia if you want. Some specific stories I reccomend are "At the Mountains of Madness" (one of his longer stories; about 110 pages in the book I have), "Shadow Over Innsmouth", "The Whisperer in Darkness", and "The Call of Cthulhu" (one of his better known stories). Hope you like him

I can recommend that as well, though I haven't had the time to read the whole story yet. However, one thing's for sure - it certainly has it's ways of "setting the mood". Also a creepy atmosphere - what else could you wish for?

Just picked up Odd Thomas and Forever Odd, will be getting the last two books of that series soon, I don't wanna read em until I have all of them. As I'm the kind of person who hates reading then having to stop and wait to read a sequel.

SWEET!Definetly want to see it,but is there any other movie out based on his books?
There are a few, but a lot of them are unfaithful to the material. I liked Reanimator, Dagon (which is actually based mostly on Shadow Over Innsmouth), and Call of Cthulhu by the HPLHS who is comming out with another movie based on The Wisperer in Darkness. There's also an episode of the TV show Masters of Horror based on Dreams in the Witch House which was pretty good.

Been really into Raymond Feist's Riftwar Saga recently. Really brilliantly written books. The characters are really engrossing and the world is pretty elaborate, but not so much that it's confusing. I'm on the last book of the saga "A Darkness at Sethanon" and it's just as good as the rest. The first in the series is "Magician" followed by "Silverthorn." The series continues with other sagas that a friend of mine says are just as good. I would recommend it to anyone that liked Lord of the Rings. I have to reread LotR after reading these books to see if they are really superior or not.

I like the the riftwar legacy trilogy (betrayal, assassins and tear of the gods) It's awesome seeing jimmy the hand all grown up.
And prince of the blood and kings buccaneer are pretty good and introduce a great character named Nakor the blue rider. (not really to fond of prince but it's up to you if you want to skip.
I never read it myself but I heard good things about the empire trilogy.

I just finished Stephen Kings CELL and it was a rather good read the ending was kinda meh though.
Just finished Lolita, and now onto Catch-22.
I am currently re-reading: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince since the movie is coming out in july.
Just finished Rickles' Letters by the great performer Don Rickles. Pretty funny book. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a laugh at the expense of celebrities and historical figures

I have to read Hardball and A Brilliant Solution: Inventing the American Constitution for school. Yes, over the summer.
I'm not a huge Stephen King fan. I've only read about 10 of his books (although I have to admit Pet Sematary, Cujo, Misery, It and the Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon were pretty damn good; The rest were just okay). I recently picked up the Stand (supposively one of his best) and Duma Key (his newest) for cheap at a used book store.
Which should I start first?

movie and books are allways differn't except for the case of How to Kill a Mockingbird even though i've never seen it I have been told numerous of times that it's the closest true addaption book to screen that has ever been made.
@ Choperman: If you want something with action in it read the Dark Tower series plenty of action in it but also has alot of other things as well.

Just finished volume 5 of the history of sweden, and a shorter book about Gustav III and the swedish spy machinery and their work to counter the french revolution. And just started on a biography about Tsar Alexander II of russia. Should keep me occupied for a couple of days.
