even monsters hulk out in toriko
Toriko
-
-
Is it just me ….or is that thing really similar to MAJIN BUU!!!
-
I think the same, yeah
-
Oh my! It seems to be another upsetting chapter! The only thing that's annoying is that the action by Teppei has been disturbed :getlost:
I hope we will see Mansam in the next. -

Awwwwww, I liked the 4 beasts Pumpkinhead/demonic root vegetable form. Now it just looks generic and simple. Easier to draw I guess.
Heh, Shima actually adressed Zebras demon horse plowing through the city. Neat. So much for "random destruction is in his character!" or "random destruction? Who cares!" arguments.

Maybe I got it wrong but it seems Zebra is protecting the buildings (not protected by Teppei) with his "Wall Sound", so they don't get smashed by Darma Horse's gigantic legs.
So, no problem with random destruction. -
Yes, I know. I was referring to a discussion a few weeks back where I complained that Zebras horse seemingly tore down the city for no reason, and people started making excuses.
-
Shima really like to turn the moods of his arcs upside down, eh?
Like, with the Food Honor arc, it started with a happy-training session and nothings seems to be wrong in the world kind of feel. Then it got darker and serious with all those gruesome/awesome deaths.
Likewise, this Four Beast arc starts off dark and foreboding, and I kinda think it'll end with the Hks curbstomping the Four Beasts Bobobo-bobo style. But that's just me. I do want to see some cool fights with humanoids though.Aww, I wanna see more of Teppei. Don't you dare forget about him, Shima. Oh and Zongeh. ZONGEH.
-
Aww, I wanna see more of Teppei. Don't you dare forget about him, Shima. Oh and Zongeh. ZONGEH.
I wanna see more of Teppei too! Though he's not a main character he would be stronger than each of the Four Heavenly Kings. And he doesn't fight for eating food but for the protection of "ingredients".
Anyway, I can't understand something: wasn't the Battle Wolf considered the fastest land animal in the world? Now we discover Dharma Horse is even faster!
-
Not bad but the form does appear to be a tiny bit generic.
-
It's nice that Mr Satan found himself a job in Toriko as Zongeh.
Still - Toriko is as BAMF as it can get, I love every testosteron page of it.
-
A lot of nice details this time, like working saiseyas or Dharma horse's enviromental insurance. The Four Kings avatar page was impressive. Usually Shimabu underutilises those.
But it still seems to be a waste to join the memorable beasts with the carrot monster to this underwhelming result. Hopefully he will prove to be a challenge.
-
I like how Shima worked in a way for Komatsu to be relevant. But holy shit, he needs to cook up antidotes for the entire human population, I hope that restaurant has a bigass pantry.
-
Have we ever seen Zebra's intimidation before ?

Anyone wanna bet that single restaurant has enough supplies for the whole of humanity ?
-
I believe it came up in the Gourmet Pyramid. Don't remember the first appearance, but here's one:
[hide][/hide]
-
Zebra used his intimidation to try and scare Salamander Sphynx that was going after Komatsu, if I correctly remember.
-
Ahahhaaa stay the same Toriko, stay the same. The Four Beasts buffing out is right up there with Komatsu's meteor garlic one.
And the antidote will probably be distributed as fog or something. -
Pretty good chapter. Next should be quite awesome.
Why was Sunny's text in that type of font?I like that the horse tromping through the town was addressed lol. Area51 I assume Zebra got there first cause while Terry might be the fastest, the horse is quite large and could get to a place in a couple of strides or something. Zebra may have also be closest.
-
Why it has to be Majin Boo? I'm so tired of Dragon Ball references.
-
I can't see any Dragon Ball reference, instead. Where are those?
-
-
He looks closer to the Stay Puff Marshmellow guy than Majin Boo I think lol.
-
With the mention of Green rain, and other types of rain being in Gourmet World, that reminds me…
I'm still wondering how Komatsu is going to survive the enviroment in Gourmet world, unless the 4 kings travel together, and Zebra keeps one of his sound shield son him at all times, or maybe Chef Yuda will teach him some dishes that reinforce the body.
-
Well what do you know, Shima decided to make the fight exciting again
This ought to be a blast, I hope the monster gives them all a decent bout
-
How the hell did they pets get so fast to the centre of the human world? They crossed over 15,000 km…
-
the four beasts weren´t staying exactly at the borders of the human world. they just kept advancing to the centre. we don´t know how much they were into the human world when the heavenly kings stopped them.
-

There might be some excuses to cover this up. Such as: She isn't an adult yet. Doesn't get the nutritions she needs.
Terry's build-up was on early chapters on Toriko too. Where the narrator's intel pretty much limited with Human World.
Above all that what does fastest means? She may react faster than Dharma Horse or say can make 0-100 km/s in 1 second where as Dharma Horse does this in 3 seconds. Which makes Terry faster in a fight.
But on the long run Terry's top speed is say 700 km/s while DHorse's is 1000. Ect. Ect.
Other than that I find it a bit meaningful the Dragon Ball reference. Weeks ago these beasts endured huge explosions. It's kind of a Symbol. That says: Things are getting bigger now

That's the same thing happening for quite the entire shonen narration, don't you think so?
Come on, Toriko is way better than Dragon Ball. In Toriyama's manga each characters fights with energy ball and extreme martial arts with the addiction of flying. So boring.
In Toriko almost each character has his own unique fighting style. -
I think the 4-beast looks like Stay Puft too…or just a really really evil looking version of The Michelin Man.
-

In Toriko almost each character has his own unique fighting style. No, no. I agree with you. I see it only as rising in the power scaling. This is a start of countless massive events that will occur.
Think about it. If 4beast is really going to give a fight to all four of them that center will be pretty much destroyed in big scale. Since it has absorbed all four of it's limbs we can assume it has all of their top attributes with some multiplation. Speed, Defence, Poison, Multiple way of attacking.
-
Ok, about the rise in the power scaling Toriko may remember the escalation of Dragon Ball. But, think about it, there are some monstrous guys, much and much stronger than the (actual) Four Heavenly Kings, since the beginning of the manga. And the power ups are all sensible and gradual, though exponential.
-
I thought the FOUR BEAST main body resembled Clay Face from Batman more so than Majjin Buu
-
I like that Teppei saved the buildings, but ignored the humans being eaten.

He doesn't have plants for everything, you know?

In Toriko almost each character has his own unique fighting style. That also puts Naruto over DB..at least the fights against the akatsuki-members were damn good.
But i also hope Toriko keeps his funny attitude all over the place (but maybe now less smiley-faces..we got that), because the only good thing in DB(Z) was Mr.Satan in the end(at least from a comedic point of view).
You know the Zonge-sama of Toriko ;) -

He kinda does look like Clayface =o.

There were people in the buildings. Plus the buildings probably would have fell on the people. The people already in the monsters graps were probably a lost cause as far as teppei's abilities go.

Not to compare Dragon Ball with Toriko, but I feel like you guys are selling it awfully short here. While it's true that fighting sltyles got very homogenized after a certain point and while it's also true that some of the choreography got pretty repetetive…"flying supermen brutally beating the hell out of each other with kung fu at mach 10" is still "flying supermen brutally beating the hell out of each other with kung fu at mach 10".
DB the manga sure had flaws, but being boring wasn't one of them.
And no,God no,a series of fights that contains the borefest known as Itachi VS Sasuke doesn't put Naruto over Dragon Ball in the fighting department. You could have JJBA level of power variety and it still wouldn't fix the dull choreography and the godawful pacing.:getlost:
-
I found dragon ball to be very repetitious and boring. No story and constant battles with the same sort of fighting just getting more and more powerful. I liked it for a while but it kept repeating over and over for 520 chapters. Toriko is many times better
-
The problem with DB is, because everyone would always just get resurrected anyway, there wasn't really a strong sense of the stakes, which is part of the reason the power levels kept scaling up to absolutely absurd levels. Maybe the reader will become excited if this time an entire planet blows up?

That and the character shafting were my two big gripes.Part of the reason I like Boo saga the least is because it has these two annoying things the most pronounced out of all arcs.
But God,I can't agree with it being boring. As a series that never aspired to have depth or intricate story,as a series that focused on delivering the entertainment,it wouldn't have gotten where it is if it were boring.
-
Not saying DB is boring nor inferior to any other manga, actually I enjoy it quite a lot and buy the volumes as they come out here (currently we are at volume 30)
But DB had a way more bigger impact back then, where mangas like it didn´t even exist.
If DB was new, unfortunately it wouldn´t do as well as it did back then, specially having to compete with mangas like One Piece or Toriko.
-
Afterall without DB we most likely wouldn
t read OP or Toriko. It
s like one of the first good video games (mario brothers or zelda) which got better titles over the years, but without the first groundbreaking games we wouldn`t have the following awesomeness. -

We have to look at Dragon Ball in the context of its run. And it was simply groundbreaking. Even now its pretty good (to me at least) even though some newer mangas like One Piece and Toriko, which were able to build their formula with the influence of Dragon Ball and other good manga, should be considered better.
Dragon Ball basically already has "classic" status and always will have.
-
DragonBall the manga, became a hit for it's humor, heart, and awesome fights. While reading down the line, one might feel the series lost it's touch seeing as how Goku goes from a bushy-haired monkey-boy with a tail, to a super-buff blonde-haired unbeatable alien. But it all flows well together.
Though I will say though, it would not be nearly as popular today if it weren't for Toei and the anime.
-

This, and the fact arcs were little beyond just random fights in generic environments, even when in outer space.
But yeah, that was also right on the mark.
-
If we are talking about ridiculous power scaling I would say Toriko and co. are nearly at the level of Dragon Ball characters when Vegeta first invaded Earth.
Don't take me wrong, I loved DB and still hold it dearly to this day, but that formula is not one to imitate. Any manga that tries to follow those steps is going to grow stale at alarming speed.
DB was able to maintain popularity even in the dumb Boo's saga (and the neverending fight against Freezer) because… well, because it was the motherfucking Dragon Ball and no other series is going to become such a worldwide phenomenom, not with all the diversity and easy access to other mangas that exists today.
