Not really, Coco only knows how does an ingredient look like. He neither knows it's value nor if it's edible or not. So Livebearer who knows everything, definitely has an edge. Coco must choose scarier looking ingredients without knowing anything about them and risk Toriko's life, and their memories.

Thank you kewl .
-
Coco isn't cheating but his ability does give him an advantage over most others (regular people). In that way, his abilities can be seen as cheating because he has an unfair advantage. What would happen if Livebear wasn't cheating and was playing fairly only relying on memory, guessing, and pure luck? Chances are Coco would stomp him because Coco can rely on his eyes to make a pair even if it's not a high value one. Livebear does not have that advantage.
That's what I'm talking about when I say Livebear cheating, when put into that perspective, evens the playing field. It's not fair, yes, but it makes things a lot more contested.

Thanks a lot for the chapter Kewl….
also the spoilers for the next chapter are out at : http://juinjutsuteam.forumcommunity.net/?t=48789736

! The script is a bit confusing and some parts are hard to understand.
Basically the game goes on, but the level is getting higher.
Infact, under some cards of the ingredients are poisonous, some also seen in Chapter # 160 at the market, like the Electric Banana (I don't remember the exactly name).
Komatsu attempts to cook all ingredients at the best, so that they are edible, and using techniques taken from other chefs.
The game is getting harder and Toriko & Co think of a way to win the challenge or at least slow down Livebearer, which proceeds without many problems.
They think that perhaps the easiest way is to catch the Joker.
Under the Joker card, however, there seems to be an animal, a panda for accuracy, with a catch level of 80 and that would yield 250 points (a bit strange).
Komatsu does not feel so sure of itself and is not to make it in to cook the dishes in the next levels.
The comparison between Toriko and the Panda is postponed to next week. -
This post is deleted!
-
! I'm guessing the catch is that the panda is alive and an endangered species and they will have to kill it to eat it.
! Bonus points if the panda's the cutest thing ever. -
Argh, this is the most nerve-racking arc for me. ;_;
Also, thank you sooooooooooo much, Kewl. <33333 I was just about to go through Toriko withdrawl, hahaha.

I felt a little sick watching Toriko eat ALL that food! Looks like the final phase is next week!
-
Awesome chapter. Toriko/Komatsu/Coco team is amazing. And Livebearer is SO FREAKING CREEPY.
-
Yeah, that face he made on the last page was one of the creepiest things I've ever seen. I don't even think calling that a rape-face does it justice.
-
lol IT'S SYNESTHESIA
he really sort of pulled that one out of his ass didn't he
-
Synesthesia is a real condition if you don't think it is. But do you think that's an unsatisfactory answer? I don't know much about it myself other than it sounds like a cool condition to have.
But for a manga version it seemed fine.
-
Yes, I know what synesthesia is. I'm just saying it isn't "I CAN SEE ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES"
I mean I've had big gripes with this awkward implementation of EM waves being some relevant force in the world of Toriko cuisine. I mean clearly EM waves have a big function in our world, but the whole WOW THIS FOOD IS EMITTING GAMMA RAYS ITS GOTTA BE GOOD thing is 10/10 dumb.
I would have just preferred it if Coco had some psychic ability or if he had some supernatural ability to see EM waves. The whole synesthesia thing is just lol. He's got the color/shape/whatever idea down, but basing it off EM waves is really lol. it's never been some random kooky god-tier fortune teller ability
-
To tell you the truth.
I just skipped the Synesthesia explanation,
I've read too much manga to where I can spot a bullshit, pseudo-scientific, "now you know" parts. It honestly doesn't add anything to the story. At all.
To me, in Torkio, food has a "voice", and Coco is a mystical-as-fuck-dude.

I must have skimmed that part. I don't remember them explaining Coco's abilities more. I just sort of nod and say Mmhmm cool powers. They didn't explain some character's abilities in a way that I thought was plausible initially so anything they further was just sci-fi science anyways. I don't understand Sunny's ability. Okay he can move his hair, sense things, but how? How does a kid learn to move their hair or train it to feel and not feel things? Then you have Zebra's sound armor…uh okay? Toriko is probably the most standard type of shonen character so his powers raise less confusion.
-
Ah. I know Synesthesia. I used to play with it when I was a kid

I've always wanted this specific dynasty-associated sword…

Jesus Jiminy Christ!
Livebearer on the last fucking page….that is BEYOND a rape face.
But anyway, great chapter. Toriko ate that entire mountain of pudding like it was nothing. lol
-
Okay a couple people have said it now, so we need to define, what is beyond a rape face, i didn't know such a level existed
-

I didn't either before that last page.
The third panel on the last page is a rape face.
That last one of Livebearer is the one X number of steps beyond.
-
Okay a couple people have said it now, so we need to define, what is beyond a rape face, i didn't know such a level existed
It's a: "Livebearer face"
-
While Livebearer really does some extremely nasty face expressions, my favorite is still Grimpatch

JESUSIn fact, his expressions sometimes really seem similar to Grinpatch, especialy the one where he's slobbering.

Toriko 166 ch scan
-
! Alright…
I have no idea what's going on, but that giant...thing at the end has to be one of the best monster designs I've ever seen.
I mean holy shit just look at it. -
Ah, Grinpatch was a great antagonist. The rematch between him and Toriko will be epic, it has to be.
-
! Every week, I think that Livebearer's face can't get any creepier…

Toriko 166 ch scan
You mean chinese scan ?
-
! Blizzard should take notes how to design pandas. Also Livebearer cheats with his eyes…somehow and I don't understand those low point ingredients, and how the 250 point joker will save them when Livebearer has 1200 points when they have only 300.
-
So, anyone could give us a summary of what exactly goes down here ? I mean, I see it, but I can't read the spoilers.

I'm not sure exactly. If you compare to the version published in Jump (http://www.mangafox.com/manga/toriko/c145/9.html), that koma in red was different, and those two pages didn't exist. I think that was extra material for the tankobon that they forgot to add, and it ended up like the version in Jump. When I get my copy I'll be able to check.
-
! @JarmenKell:
! > I have 5 bucks that say Livebearer will somehow look even more scary in the next chapter.
! Yes, I win the 5 dollars!!! My own 5 dollars that I give over to myself :getlost:
! Now what are the chances livebearer gets more creepy next week? I mean there has to be a limit right?:ninja: -
So 17 was the first Toriko volume I decided to buy, and it comes with a mistake? :(
Well apparently you can ask them to replace it if you want.
-
So…..nobody still has a clue about what the spoilers say ?
-
Just caught the end of the latest anime episode. Honestly from the angle I couldn't tell if Toriko's arm is gone (I got to the stream late). But, Tommyrod's arm has been severed. And there are holes in his body. So that's good. If anyone else saw the stream, please tell if Toriko lost his arm.
-
Actually really impressed with today's episode. Nice animation, great action sequences, and although of course there was no blood (just black smoke over every wound), they didn't shy away from taking his arm off. Well, both of their respective arms. So the arm-regrowing arc is still in!
EDIT: Yup, Samwize. It's gone.
-
Same here, i was impressed by this episode.
The preview of the next episode seems as nice as this one.

The moment we had all been waiting for:
!
Very good episode. Watching it with subs will make it even more enjoyable. Glad to see that the arm is gone and we can all rest easy.

Still no blood? What happened to good ol bloody anime? :(

Still no blood? What happened to good ol bloody anime? :(
The anime is targeted at youngsters of 12 years old mainly. This is a bit more toned down than Kinnikuman anime if you ask me.
-
Like HnK and JJBA were aimed for 25 year olds.
It's just that children these days are pussies…
-
And because it's Toei.
-

I would've thought younger. No blood for 12 year olds? :/
-
It's just that Toei's censoring standards have changed. They edited some of that stuff for DragonBall Kai too. Given that fact they are following the story pretty faithfully. It is kinda weird though not seeing blood in Toriko but then seeing it half an hour later in _One Piece_.
-
Ehh.. it's still one of the better animes though.. they haven't ran into too many filler arcs yet.
I still hate Tina with a passion. -
Tina's puns at the end of these recent episodes has been irritating. It was ok for the first two but now I think Toei just gonna keep milking it until even they don't find it funny anymore. I don't think there was one last night but I had no idea what she was saying anyway.
