Well, you called it.
I personaly loved it. Toriko is delivering week after week.
And that's why it's now part of the Big 3.
Also, Toriko Podcast episode 2 is now available on the site and iTunes. I'm obviously not on this week, but you should still listen to it.
This manga it's so over the top, while trying to rationaly explain every action/detail. . . the mix is just awesome.
Quoted for truth. This is what every proper shonen manga should be like. Dotted with humor and funny characters, but also having a very well developed and complex world structure and interesting ability mechanics. At the moment, Toriko is the best WSJ series, hands down. I only hope it will stay as such.
It was indeed an excellent chapter. I thought it was so cool how Toriko's "36-Ren Twin Kugi Punch" and Sunny's "30x Super Fry Gaeshi" were combined to take out the mountain! Next week promises to be even more better, as they finally delve into the cave!
Also, Kewl, the online reader for Hi Wa Mata Noboru is amazing!
That reader is a free simple to setup reader FoolRulez makes. They're a group that apparently is made up of a couple of programmers and made this big complex system that works really well. Dunno how on earth people can make something that complex with just a couple people and do it for free.
Also, please don't say "fold" and "spiked punch" those are GODAWFUL translations and they're not even accurate.
Too much of slow build up for what is essentialy an attack on a big rock.
What the hell is "Gaeshi".
For pretty much every time it's been used I've put in a note. Fry Gaeshi translates to Spatula. It uses the English word Fry in it even though the English word doesn't use that in the phrase it's translating to.
Generally, if an attack was just used in the last chapter or two before I won't put another note saying what it is. Like I didn't write the literal reading/translation of the 36 Ren Kugi Punch the second time it was used in the chapter.

Changed. Sorry for the mistranslations.

Thanks for clearing that. Does Shimabukuro use Engrish like "fry" for any other attacks?
Anyone else thinks that there will be an arc about those Nitros similar to the chimera ants arc in HxH ?

I think it will be more like they will be recurring villains together with the Bishokukai.
That said wasn't really much of a chapter, just more exposition on Sanis and Torikos abilities.
About half the attacks in Toriko are in English. All of Sani's other attacks are, like Hair Net and Hair Lead and Hair Punch. Coco's attacks are mostly all English except Doku Maku (Poison Membrane).
Fork and Knife are English… Stuff like Peeler Shot are English. Teppei's attacks were English. Takimaru and Match's attacks were Japanese. Barrygamon's attacks were English... Zebura's attacks are all English. Basically, they're English unless it's some idea that's too complicated to be able to convey in English to Japanese readers.
Zebra's face, reminds me of a japanese horror movie, about a girl with the same "smile" as Zebra's going around killing people because of the accident that made her face be like that.
Well I gotta bone to pick with Episode 19 of the anime. They changed so much, THAT DIDN'T EVEN NEED TO BE CHANGED. And yes, I know, Toriko did not chop off the side of his shoulder to keep the plant from devouring his entire body , I didn't expect that. Well, they did show the tree with the fruits full of sake, the design was changed a little, instead of fruits they look like the red lanterns found in bars. But instead of eating the pea plant found in the ground with his drink he eats some cheese-like grass. And then, the animal that baits Terry with it's dangle, the giant fish thing; real creepy looking, was changed to a cute little furry animal. Called a Peacheetah, since the dangle is a peach. Really, I don't see the reason for these edits.
Next week, it looks like we get a little glimpse of Grinparch, since Toriko and Terry harvest the BB Corn next episode.
-20- "For Terry's Sake! Burst with Heat, BB Corn!" **テリーの為に! 灼熱で弾けろ、BB コーン!

They're changing the fan-made ingredients into ones that are slightly different to avoid… probably some sort of different copyright laws.
That seems odd. You'd think there would be some sort of agreement mentioned. Like a "If your submission is accepted and placed in the manga and possibly the show you no longer hold rights to the design," sort of thing. But yeah…I'm a bit sad to hear that it's becoming overly fluffy now.
The chapter is out.
Hmm it was okay, the boulder/mountain help them with waterfall, finally in are getting into the cave.

Haha didnt notice.
Thanks
Thanks for supplying us with this chapter, Kewl!!
I do love Toriko and it is probably second (am reading hunter x hunter at the moment) favorite after one piece but there have a few things that have bothered me. First the whole calorie arc where they were talking about taking in millions of calories and each move taking around a hundred thousand calories which is so far from being realistic which I really didn't like. Realism was part of the reason I liked Toriko (e.g autophagy). Also in the battle against Tommyrod, for example, Toriko was using hundreds of knives and forks and did not suffer from lack of food. Also Toriko seems to be getting stronger and stronger so quickly which I guess is ok but I do hope the series won't end for a long time as this seems to be rushing it. Then in the latest chapter I don't see how Sunny's power could multiply Toriko's power so much to destroy a mountain. Anyway I do love Toriko but I'm wondering does anybody else agree.
That is the problem wich Toriko might face soon, everything is so very over the top this early for what seems to be a very longrunning series.
This series is very awesome and all but the author is trying to impress too much by throwing out ridiculous sizes and numbers around. If he keeps it up like this future appearances will look ridiculous.
Like Sani wants to repel a planet sized meteor…. something like that happening is nice but only if it happens near or at the end of the series not say like halfway.
10,000,000 calories
…....
That's also true. Honestly I don't remember how many "Rens" Toriko's Kugi Punch is with just one arm. But I don't think the Twin Kugi Punch will be used that often. It takes a good tole on Toriko's body like whenever he uses Leg Fork or Leg Knife.
Sunny on the other hand, we don't see him that much. So for him to learn an incredible technique at this point in the story seems fine to me. I think his next technique will be learned in the Gourmet World. But that's just my opinion.
I think it might be 1,000,000 calories. Toriko's suplly was 3.500.000 last time we checked. As far as i can remember.
And in mangareader's version it says twice the leg fork, which was 500.000.
They gave a chart in chapter like, 143~ or so that listed the calorie count for all of Toriko's attacks. Leg Knife/Fork are the biggest toll, they take like 500,000 each. But I think the Kugi Punch can take more if the ren-count is high. I forget what.
I think it's a good idea, it lets the reader know that there's a limit to how many special moves the character can use. As opposed to say, Goku, who just all of a sudden would be say "I'm too tired" or like running out of chakra in Naruto. It gives a more mathmatical perspective to the fights and makes running out of energy far less of a deus ex machina sort of convenience, which only happens when the author feels like making the character seem desperate.
Thanks Kewl for the chapter.
The amount of calories for the 18 hit kugi punch should be 1,080,000 if each kugi punch still only needs 30,000 calories and that's assuming the attack doesn't take more calories since he is using both arms at the same time.
1080 is also what 36*30 equals, so that could be the name of the kugi punch flung by the super spatula.
I'm still skeptical of the calorie idea. This is only being used to determine the energy of the user so far so it's not a bad idea. Once they are used to compare strength in opponents I'll be disappointed.
I'd also be disappointed if it's used all the time unless it's surprisingly consistent which given how power levels seem inconsistent I'd be skeptical, but optimistic.
Are the trying to make calories a kind of power level or something? I think they are. Well considering how much Toriko eats. It's a cool idea. By the way I think Toriko means Bird child. What a strange meaning.
I think the idea with calories are good, but I don't think it really works out.
This chapter was pretty cool. Seeing Toriko and Sunny combine their techniques to destroy the mountain was epic.
And next week, we'll finally be heading into the Death Falls cave.
Calories are good as long as it doesn't get power level decider. I mean since you fight your body thus with your calories, more you have and more you use per attack means strength but I don't know if I want it to turn to that. I would like to see a scene Toriko getting destroyed with someone lesser calory to see things may differ and fightings have action itself. Otherwise it's going to be like Dragon Ball where an opponent says: hey my power level is this, so it doesn't matter how hard you try you can't defeat me. Which is a manga killer and isn't suited for today's Shonen.
But idea of inflicted damage being independent then used calory is acceptable. This way we can only see user's limitations and things won't get one-handed to Manga-Ka's side. Well since it's his manga we can't fight with that but as kewl said it gets irritating after one point. And we get a clue when is a character is going to be worn out this way.
The calories seem to be a measure of SP at this point. Like in an RPG. HP is still indeterminable, so that the heroes can stay alive through things that should've killed them blows ago, but the calorie counter helps know when they should be slowing down with their offense, and how many attacks they have left in the tank. It says nothing of how strong each of those attack is, and I bet there will be an issue later about Toriko's moves taking too many calories, forcing him to somehow economize them to be more efficient.
anyway, the scale got really fucking out of hand near the end of that chapter. Either that or the perspective was just too much for my mind to take in.
I thought Shimabukuro made it very clear how calories aren't end all deciding factors in the same arc where he introduced them when Toriko and Zebra pulled out amazing amounts of power when they were running on empty.
Wasn't that because their bodies were eating themselves for energy (autophagy) like what Toriko did before in the Regal Mammoth arc?
Yes. At least Toriko. Zebra was using his anger or something like this.
Anyways, Toriko using 10M. Calories when his limit was shown to be far less than this, I think his cells evolved with the Autophagy + Cola combo, just like Autophagy + Regal Mammoth meat evolved his cells a lot.
Maybe now he can store and use more calories than before. Or maybe 10M was a mistranslation and it meant 1M. Both can be possible.
For using 10,000,000 calories, you'd think he'd have lost some muscle mass. How hilarious would it be to have him do some ridiculous attack and turn into… well, Komatsu? I guess it's fine, though. The guy probably eats and shits out small mountains daily, only this time he won't be shitting one since he expended it all as fuel.
Lol Sani's ambition .
Tina is such a cheap date. She got incredibly wasted while on air. :getlost:
@kouch_lee:
Yes. At least Toriko. Zebra was using his anger or something like this.
Toriko's sudden burst of energy made sense with his autophagy. Zebra just got his energy because he was more angry than angry.
I wonder where Zebra is now….?
I wonder where Zebra is now….?
One of the conditions for his release was that he had to Capture several species of rare creatures so that they could be preserved. He's probably off fulfilling that.
I wonder where Zebra is now….?
The Eternal Plane of Manliness and Ultimate Badassery, of course.
Aren't they still like, inside the waterfall during all of this?
So confusing.
An entire chapter dedicated to destroying a mountain sized rock…DAMN I LOVE TORIKO.
What the F just happened in the anime with Grinpatch? Just wow
And why the hell does he sound so flamboyant?
…Grinpatchs voice... i can only say that was... unexpected. any idea who
s his seiyuu?
Saw the raw…. i have no words for Grinpatchs voice. I expected alot after Staayjun but this..... no. Just no.
it's this guy http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=creator&creatorid=3270: Mitsuya Yuuji
I tried to watch some more Toriko after giving up earlier on.
But its just so damn censored compared to the manga.
They are even changing some of the monsters into different creatures so they appear less threatening!
