Actually, I'm beginning to wonder if Shimabukuro really cares about capture levels anymore. It seems like the further this series goes, the less relevant those levels are becoming. :wassat:

They were never realy relevant. It's just to give a rough idea of how strong something is.
Like when Grinpatch rides on something with a capture level around 80 to show he was just messing with Toriko.
-
I'm not saying the beast itself didn't live up to its level. But still, a ferocious design goes a long way. I realize the levels past 50 aren't such hot stuff anymore but they still need to look impressive, to outdo the old beasts of the past. The design has to keep pace with the evolution in strength or it would make everything to come seem lack-lustre.
-
Just be glad it didn't look like "My Little Pony".
-
I'd rather keep Butt Bug as a pet.

I would too.
But there is the idea of that thing procreating.
-
That butt bug deserves an ass-kicking!
-
It withstood a 15 ren kugi punch and a leg fork. It's pretty tough. Also that dinosaur thing weren't looking scary either in the gourmet world but it sound blasted Toriko to the wall from km's.
Shimabukoro could have taken the Baron Tiger from chapter one and have made it capable of that, and we'd say "that thing is tough, I can see why it's tough to capture". But like TLS said, I was talking about design. When a monster has such a hig capture level it usually has the looks to match; just look at the Hellboros or Tundra Dragon, you believe their capture levels instantly. This thing? It could've been pitched as the "natural rival of the Galera Croc" and I'd have accepted it.

@Kaba:
And yet he has the best chance of getting laid. Unlike Komatsu…
I love how irrelevant and man bro-ish that comment is

You have to bear in mind that a lot of the food and monster designs are based on fan-submitted drawings. Shimabakuro is one of the few authors who actually uses reader-submitted designs and implements them. If it was him drawing every single monster, that's one thing, but if he's constantly taking submissions as a basis for his artwork, he's going to at least try to make them resemble the original submission.
That said, their strength is still evident, despite their design.

That's not really an excuse. He can spice them up how ever he wants. Or at the very least make them really big so we can at least sorta understand how this thing can best a great mammoth.

And like I said, the design matters a lot even if they live up to their level. Strong things need to look more or just as impressive than their weaker versions.

I wonder if Zebra's intimidation, or all of their intimidations, somehow represent some ancient species.
Also, anyone else here feel realy sad for Death Gore ? :(
-
did anyone notice the sketchyness on page 15?

Its kind of hard to miss it.
Looks like the panels weren't finished in time or something.Very bizarre.
-
Gep, you could easily go back one page and find out.
Plus, we're manga nerds. Well me not so much but most people here seem to be. What , do you think nerds wouldn't notice that ?

The thing that devored entire continents? Nope.
@GEPPETTOSMONSTER:did anyone notice the sketchyness on page 15?
I thought it was the view of the monster, Like a shock damage were your vision is blured?
-
Yes that thing :(
Also….anyone else a little worried about Shimabukuro ?
-

As long as he's staying the hell away from 16 year old girls, then no.
I just hope whatever happened doesn't continue to affect his work. After all, the anime is on it's way soon.
-
I meant in light of the recent earthquake.
-
@No:
I meant in light of the recent earthquake.
Oh that. Sorry my mind is definitely not working right now.
Well there's no way to tell for awhile, so just send some prayers if you're religious.
-
wasn't there something saying all the manga artists/writters were fine on the thread for that, well at least I know Oda's okay, I hope it turns out okay for everyone else too

No, you are the first one on the whole board.
Anyway, chapter was okay I guess, some explanation on Zebras echo map and the amazing stamina feats he pulls off while doing it. -
Shimabakuro has not been found yet guys….this could be bad.
-
I hope he's alright! :cwy: I would hate it if he wasn't alright!
-
I may have to tweet Kubo, because he does seem to be somewhat active on twitter.
I need a translation of a simple question about Jump employees, and then Shimabukuro's name.
-
I know it's unrealistic but I don't want to see any author die. Especially ones with on going series.
-
Well most of them were in Tokyo.
-
I also heard that the list of media officials in japan are those who get online. So there's probably a good number of authors alive still but just not accounted for.
@No Maam: did you get that info from Kubo?
-
No but that is basicly what I got from Aohige or someone the day before yesterday. They basicly said Tokyo wasn't hit as hard and that is where most Jump mangaka are if I'm not mistaken.
-
Ah ok…well that's good...I wonder what they were all doing in tokyo
-
Working.
Ya know. Jump. Weekly deadlines.
-
I thought they all worked in there own private studios.
-
Well , I asumed those were somewhere around Tokyo.
-
Ah I see…well that would make sense. I hope togashi is accounted for, would suck if he died than that would mean HxH would be unfinished.
-
I realy hate to make this joke, and I know it is sort of inapopriate, but…....
how would that differ from the status quo ?
-
You know, for Togashi this disaster may turn out to be the reason of his return.
He could say : What would have happened to the HxH fans if i died and left it unfinished ? I'll better die while continuing the story…
something like that
-
No author better die, Kubo included.
-
You know, if there was something they would have already said it. I honestly don't think any professional took serious damage. Pretty much the entire industry is located in Tokyo, where the earthquake did shit.
Why any of these authors would be in the most affected areas when every day they are working their asses? They have almost no time to take a rest. It's one of these times I think being mangaka is a bless.
-
I decided to look into this manga after I saw that it was going to be animated. Looks like it could be fun, I'm not 100% how much time I'll devote to it though.
I hope the author is alive and unharmed. -
No author better die, Kubo included.
yeah the guy writes a shitty series and saying he should die on normal circumstances is fine and all, but to actually mean it when there's high probability he could, that's just cruel, I'm hoping as many people are safe in Japan as possibly, hopefully all the authors/writers too
-
GEPPETTOSMONSTER I saw a lot of people using that avatar I was wondering if it was okay to just put on as my avatar
-
It's available for anyone to use courtesy of Sai-chan who originally created it.

I heard on the spoilers section for One Piece that Oda and Shimabukuro are going to do a manga crossover soon. They really do seem to be pushing these two series together, although that might be because Toriko has the potential to usurp Bleach in their top 3 manga (It already gets similar rankings without an anime). Still, that should be pretty awesome
-
An official crossover between the two authors themselves? Sweet! Hope it's as fun as Cross Epoch.

That would be bitchin

I heard there was a crossover anime special. Dunno how true that is, haven't seen any ads for it.
It seems like there's a big similarity in fans liking One Piece and Toriko. So Shuueisha is pushing to try to get One Piece fans to like Toriko, also. -
