I know some people started talking about this on the Bo-bobo thread, but I decided to make a new thread about it to seperate the discussion. I'm currently translating the first chapter of this new series…and so far it does seem zany enough that I will probably like what this is! I haven't read it all (taking it one page at a time)...but do note the Don Patch and Dengaku Man cameos on pg. 1...yep, it's not their series anymore.

My first impression was Akagi meets Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

Still translating it so no scanslations (unless someone else does it before I do). The first chapter so far reminds me a bit of how Bo-bobo started but the wacky factor has been multiplied. (one of the enemies in this pilot is essentially a giant head with robot tentacles supplied by NASA)
Edit (so I won't double post): Chp. 1's translation is complete! Now I just hope someone scanslates it.
-
I'm gonna start a scanlation for this ASAP
Edit: on second thought…nah... i'll let some other group do this series besides I won't have the time to do a scanlation for it each week and i'm slow at scanlating too. (it took me 2 weeks to do 1 bobobo chapter, what does that tell you?) -
I don't know if it's me, but it reminds me of the old style of Jump series. Kinda reminds me of JoJo or Bobobo, or a mix between the current Bari Haken and Toriko series. Such a powerful human is a bit ridiculous, I hope someone gets to scanlate it anyway, it looks more fun than stuff like Bari Haken and that other new manga from 3 weeks ago.

I think I mentioned in my review on MH that the series seemed like it has a lot of weird elements similar to "Sakigake! Otokojuku" (never read it but basically its delinquent high schoolers fighting each other to the death with bizarre abilities) with a bit of JoJo, a bit of FoNS (somehow the "head high school president" at the end gave me a bit more of an ambiance of Raoh than any of the Tsurulinas) and of course, the Bo-bobo gag style. Personally, I think it's just so bizarre that I doubt it could even make a half year with this Jump crowd.

Slight bump but three chapters in, I really like where Sawai is going with this series. Somehow he still has gag sensibilities but seems to be actually constructing an interesting, amazing yet bizarre world with subplots, intrigue and…teenage girls beating up bullies with a bowling ball attached to her cell phone. (and did I mention the potential final villain killing the former leader of the hero's school with the Eiffel Tower?)

Saw the 3 chapters and it was awesome and funny XD
-
I just finished chapter 2-4 (you can find them in mangafox), it was really hilarious (especially w/ the crane game part).
Now…its really interesting that tiger guy is a lot like Poppa Rocks/Don Patch (in the end it even said that it might be him)

Yeah, that line in chp. 4 where Tiger Mask goes "I don't use a leek or anything" started me on the thought path that somehow Don Patch snuck into another series. I hope I'm wrong though…the latest was fun mostly cause we see a 9-year old with massive power...and he literally goes crazy and blows up. You won't see that in Dragonball.

I was hoping to get into this series once it gets scanlated… But it's apparently being cancelled already.

I'm still going to read the scanlations, but it's kind of disappointing that it got cancelled after two months or so.

I sort of want to wait for this weeks chapter before brekaing it but essentially it does seem like it bombed and it will be going this week if not the next couple. I've translated every chapter and see the massive potential and amazing world Sawai was setting up…but who's to say what Jump fans even want anymore if they don't want this. I sort of was never upset that it did bomb: it was just too amazing to stand out in the world they want.
-
DAMN…I can't believe this is happening, didn't bobobo was able to go on for a very long time? And last time I remember, the critics/editors didn't approve of that, hmmmm
-
First Double Arts and now Chagecha :(
-
wow, that sucks. I have been using that 2 page color spread from chapter 1 as my desktop background.

I sort of wish I would go over the ranks but basically the original Bo-bobo ran for 6.5 years: close to 5 in the original format and 1.5 in Shinsetsu. It was successful enough but I think that someone, whether it's fans or editors, are sort of have something against him and his style…I dunno, that's just how it feels, particulary if the final chapter is this week.
-
So Sawai has to leave 2 of his manga incomplete. Sad…
-
Not exactly 2: the original Bo-bobo was complete, it's just that he created Shinsetsu which turned into a big mess due to the circumstances. Chagecha…well that pretty much bombed from how it sounds. (though he may get the last laugh: according to S-Manga, instead of calling the final chapter chp. 8, he turned it on it's side and now it's "chapter infinity".)

http://mangahelpers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42703 (script of the final chapter…sort of hope we get scanslations for the rest of the series but somehow this was very bittersweet for me)
