Dragon Quest IV (comes out within a week!)
-
-
might be on the first to get a copy sent through rental so Ill be probably playing this next week or 2, depending on how many pre-rentals there are.
-
Another thread? Meh.
I already have it preordered and paid for. I just need to wait and get started on my adventure.
(Protip: don't ignore Borya, even though he is the frailest charactes and one of the slowest level-gainers. He's the only one that learns Oomph/Bikill, and that makes him too important to ignore.)
-
The comic strips in the official DQ4 site are freaking hilarious…mostly because they are true.
-
I should be getting my copy on Thursday, for Friday at the latest. I was surprised to see EU getting the game before the US.
-
picked this up just now. Wasn't sure if it was actually this game or not seeing as it was simply called Dragon Quest: Chapters of the Chosen.
-
It is. Europe doesn't number the Dragon Quest games, because VIII last year on the PS2 was the first one they ever got. They don't want to confuse people by going VIII, IV, V, VI or whatever.
-
aha yea thats what I thought. Anywho so far I just finished the first chapter and its pretty fun. Not sure I like this whole chaptered concept but apart from that its good.
-
Great another game i have to add to my collection.
-
Wow, I didn't realize it was already coming out! Definitely picking this up once I get my paycheck this week.
-
It's been out in Europe for the past few days. North America gets it on Tuesday - I'll probably just head out there before classes and pick it up so it doesn't occupy my mind all day when I have to work and study.
-
Is this game wi-fi compatible?
-
Is this game wi-fi compatible?
Local wireless - Yes. WFC - No. In local you just swap custom town data, but that's it.
The game is amazing though.

Now that you mention it, DQ VIII really didn't have any number associated to it. I think. Yeah, I'm pretty sure about. No VIII on the cover. We have had couple Dragon Quest Monsters games here though. Long before an actual Dragon Quest game.

Ill do a quick guide to explain:
- DragonQuest kicks ass.
- Every game was good except for the wii game.
- Go spend your money, right now.
-
Speaking of Wii. Has any of the Dragon Quest games made their ways to Virtual Console service yet? That would seem like a bad business move for Square-Enix, tho. It could damage the sells of these remakes.
But I don't really feel like buying a new RPG right now. I'm having a Fallout 1/2 marathon (gotto warm up for Fallout 3!), I got an overdose of Diablo II and I still haven't beaten Lost Oddysay (I know I've been saying this like for past six months or so~). I think I will buy a RTS, a shooter or a horror game next, or perhaps a Sport game. NHL 09 seems like a winner…

Nope. I'm pretty sure SquareEnix said they aren't going to. Ever.

Nope. I'm pretty sure SquareEnix said they aren't going to. Ever.
Not to mention some of the earlier DragonQuest games never came stateside.
-
The wii dragon quest release sucked.
The graphics and gameplay were horrendis.
My favorite was the ps2 game, that was good.
And also the 2 DS games were alright.
-
I found the ROM, but my bro still has our R4 chip >_<. Gonna go check if a copy is available at the shops this weekend.
Wonder if some of the stuff u do in DQ4 will work in this release? Like in the first chapter where you gain enough cash, buy the best armors (no weapons) and then when u reach the final part of the chapter, you get the sword. Among other things. -
For some unexplained reason, Square-Enix decided not to include the team speak option in the game. This is basically a little option in the field menu where you talk to your party members and they weigh in on the game's current events (you could do it in DQ VIII, but I think they called it Party Talk, same difference). It's a whole lot of text to remove, and a bunch of the DQ forums are flying into weepy rages about it. I bought it, I'm on chapter 3, and I'm having fun. But yeah, no team speak.
-
Yeah heard about the Team Speak being removed, personally I DON'T GIVE A FUCK.
-
Was the Party Talk in the original DQ4?
-
Was the Party Talk in the original DQ4?
Nope, but it was in the PS1 port. The first DQ game to have party talk was DQ VII, I think.
-
This game is uber sexy. Doing Alena's chapter now, gonna scrap up some cash, buy the armors and go fight the boss.
-
haha yea I'm going through this now (although slowly) finished up the third chapter last night which was a pain. Haven't strated the Sister's one yet.
-
I've beaten chapter 6, but I'm hunting King Metals to try and have Torneko steal Liquid Metal Helms from them. Not having much success.
And by the way, the new character is BROKEN. He learns a bunch of spells that weren't even in the DQ series until later (like Metal Slash, Thin Air, etc.) and learns even more spells that used to be exclusive to other characters (like Kaboom, Kazing, Oomph, etc.). He also gets a special set of equipment that's even better than the Zenithian set. He'd be the best character in the game at everything if it weren't for The Hero's uber lightning spells and Alena's critical hit rate. Really, he's just too good. He makes the chapter 6 boss too easy, pretty much.
-
This game is like crack, it will never leave you, ever.
-
Baalzack is being a bitch to beat :/
-
Baalzack is being a bitch to beat
"Orb of Silence" that is all
now that bastard after him however
-
@shining:
"Orb of Silence" that is all

Are you referring to Balzack or Baalzack? Those are two different boss fights, and Baalzack was a fucking monster!
-
Baalzack was easy. I beat him in like 6-8 turns because I over leveled.
-
Where did u go to level up?
BTW it seems you can no longer fight Liquid Metal Slimes in the first floor of the dungeon south of Endor :/ -
For Baalzack, the best place to level is probably the lighthouse; you can find regular Metals there. If you don't like that, then sail in the ocean in the northwest and try not to get owned hard. He's easily beatable if you're around level 17-18.
-
Managed to beat him, thanks for the tips :D
Now to get the Zenithian Sword! -
Where did u go to level up?
BTW it seems you can no longer fight Liquid Metal Slimes in the first floor of the dungeon south of Endor :/You can fight them in the Shrine south of endor tho =3 (is there right now)
-
…Read my post again; in the NES version you could fight them in the FIRST floor, as such all your characters would gain EXP, but that doesn't seem to be the case in this one.
No biggy though :/
Just beat the game but...WTF am I supposed to do now in Chapter 6? -
I got my copy on sunday. It's so nice to see how how the game looks so different, yet feels the same as it did back when it was still on NES. That's probably what they were going for, and they did a great job at the whole "classic gaming meets mainstream" concept.
Now, I'm on chapter 2. I forgot just how frustrating playing with Alena's party was.
-

There's a new hidden dungeon in The Azimuth town. Go there and beat the bosses at the end, and be sure to use the checkpoint church in the middle so you can Zoom there later. After you beat the bosses, go to the place where you found the Zenithian sword and pick up the item there. Then take the item to Rosehill village and show it to Rose, and you'll know what to do from there.
Now, I'm on chapter 2. I forgot just how frustrating playing with Alena's party was.
Interestingly enough, I think that Alena's party in addition to The Hero is the best team in the game for most of Chapter V. Multiheal, Kabuff, and Oomph are most of the reason why. Once the secret character joins you, however, Kiryl and Borya become useless since he learns all of their best attacks.
But yeah, in chapter II, when Borya is super-frail and Kiryl doesn't have any decent offense, it can be a pain.
-
Well, maybe I had exaggerated a bit. Alena and her party sorta grew on me as I played, now that I think about back on the original. Torneko was kind of frustating at first. But, chapter 3 became one of my favorites after finding out the advantages of the items/weapons you get after most battles.
I actually got stuck on chapter 4 playing the NES version. I don't know why, but I've always liked their battle music.
-
@lazzie- Thanks mate, doing it now :D
-
Beat the main game about half an hour ago and onto Chapter 6. I think I'll leave that for a lil while or so tho.
-
Encountered a Platinum King Jewel, fat nigga fleed though :/
-
OK-
! Got HIM to join my team, now when I go to the chicken and egg duo, there is a portrait of a suit of black armor; what's that all about?
-
Oho, that's even better. Now every time you beat the boss, you get a special item. Four of them are super-powerful pieces of equipment for HIM. I think you have to fight them six or seven times to get everything.
And I am STILL trying to get Liquid Metal Helms. I have ONE after days of fighting MKSes. As a result, Torneko, Alena, The Hero, and HIM are about 15 levels higher than my other characters. I don't even like Torneko.
-
Yeah gonna try and get the 4th piece later on.
Clocked nearly 20 hours thus far. Platinum King Jewels give off nearly 60K EXP, and even with that the Hero may still need a few 10K EXP to level up XD
The chicken and egg dude seem to only give you an equipment if you beat them under 25 turns or so. They're quite easy once you know what to do. -
Platinum King Jewels
Where do you find these?
I just got HIM, is there anything else to do. I have a feeling there is another boss, but I have no idea where he is.
-
In the bonus dungeon in the area after the save point, they will rarely appear though.
As for what to do next-! If you Zoom to Diabolic Hall, you can fight the boss there to end the game. Be warned though that he is HARDER than Evolved Psaro, but only in the damage he inflicts

The area with all the stairs leading to egg and chicken guys?
-
The area with all the stairs leading to egg and chicken guys?
The aera just before where there are some graves at the entrance.
About the liquid metal helm, I get one at the casino of the pioneer town. (I didn't even know that we could earn one by beating some MKS >_>).
And did you know if the eggs and chicken guys give you something if you beat them really quickly ? (after having empty the picture).
