My seven year old (male) cousin is into anime. But so far he's only seen pokemon, speed racer and some miyazaki. But he really loves what he's seen. I wasnt to introduce him to other animes.
Is One Piece appropriate for him? I would think so but I've been desensitized and his mom is a little more uptight but not too much.
If One Piece isn't appropriate, does anyone know of any other animes that would be good for him? Keep in mind he can only watch dubs.

Yeah it's mostly appropriate for him….IDK if you consider mild sexual humor (Alabasta bath scene) to be inappropriate.

I think you can enjoy one piece at any age its not really to violent or kiddy at time its a show for everyone to enjoy. That being said I started watching dbz when I was 5 lol.

Of course, there is the FUNimation Dub, but the only problem with it is that the Uncut dub is TV-14 and may not be kid-friendly (in his mom's eyes) due to the obligatory hells, damns, asses, bastards, and (in one easily missable case) bitch.
In other news, I know I might get flamed for this, but try some 4Kids anime. In particular, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Sonic X. Actually, I'm staying with my cousin and aunt right now so I brought a 4kids dvd shudder and actually he loves it! we went to the beach today and we roleplayed one peice and made a pirate ship in the sand.
He's only seen 5 episodes but I told him about the other straw hats and he loves Franky already. He also likes Zoro though he looks more like Sanji.
His mom might say no do to the Blood, Violence, sexual humor,and the cussing. But thats if his mom is uptight.
It's just up tight parents and religious bullshit which causes this question to be asked. It's a childrens series in Japan, let him watch it, screw what his Mom thinks. I know that sounded cruel, but that pretty much is it.

I started watching one piece at about 10, so I would say that.
i don't think one piece is sutible for any age, there are some content in the show(like alabasta bath scene or thriller barl bath scene)that are not sutible for kids and i understand his mom concern. although one piece may count as a kid show in japan by the air time(9 am? really? didn't know that)it's still a "shonen" type show which probobly suit best for teenagers. my recommand? at least 14 or 15 years old and that if the kid is smart and can tell the different between fantasy and the real world. however i would keep him from watching the thriller bark bath scene at least until he's 17 or 18 cause the scene is really bad for kids(nude+ the whole concept of trying to rape nami is not a good combination for any kid)

You know, maybe it's just because in Norway, people don't go all "OMG THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!!" if there's as much as a slight glimpse of someone's panties, but I can not see ANYTHING wrong about that scene. Not to mention… 17 or 18 just to see the TB-scene? Sorry, but that's just downright retarded. That would mean that I wouldn't be able to handle that scene, and the only reaction I had was "Damn, this is one awkward scene I'd rather not be seen watching…"

Oh BAWWWW, they said "Dammit!". Him hearing cussing ain't gonna do shit to him, my entire family cussed and thus I was cussing at an early age; but that was because there was not much respect in my family. Even at a young age I wouldn't cuss in front of someone I knew would be insulted by it.
People are just too damn paranoid in today's time. They act like someone jerking off to porn or saying "GOD DAMMIT" caused 9/11. What he said. Seriously, people (in America) are WAY too paranoid about cursing, nudity and pervertedness. It's like what they said in the South Park-movie, "Horrible violence is okay, as long as our kids don't use naughty words! (By the way, I saw that movie when I was NINE, yet I was not mentally scarred or negatively affected by it.)

In my opinion, 7 or 8 is a good age to start with One Piece. I would have loved it as a child!
