Game Identifying Thread

Most of us have played games, mostly as kids, which we loved and would like to experience the game again years later. But the years have taken their toll and you can't even remember a word of the title. This thread is so hopefully other more knowledgeable members can try and help others who memory of a game is at most a vague description.

I'll start with my own:

I played a game as I kid which at the time I had fun with. From what I recall it involved a space hero going to odd planets and fighting aliens. It was a 3D platformer and the character designs were wacky and the game was generally cartoony.

EDIT: No, it wasn't Buzz Lightyear.

Umm… no... not Rayman. << The guy wore a white suit and had a big upper body on small legs. He was quite Buzz Lightyear-esque.

There was this gameboy game I played as a kid; my father found it in a store for 10 bucks. The main character was a cat-like samurai guy in a suit of armor. Most of the time, you went exploring around the map hacking stuff with your trusty sword. But occasionally you'd have a boss battle, and you did it in a giant mobile suit (what the heck? Weird, I know). It was all in Japanese, so I didn't know the title (or the story, for that matter). But it was a helluva lot of fun.

Anyone know the name of this game?

Never seen the series, but the "cat-like samurai" makes me think "Samurai Pizza Cats". XD

EDIT: I was a few minutes slow on that one, i guess. having EFG as my sig is not good.

there IS a game that I remember, it was on NES. Kinda got reminded of it because of the Tomba. It was about a caveman-looking guy riding on a skateboard, eating fruit on the way. think it was a side-scrolling platformer.

Nice idea buuhan. here a toughy that I think of every once in a while.

Okay here one I played but never owned. I belive it was sega gen (though it may have been snes but from graphics and my age I'm pretty sure it one of those.)

It was a monster fighting game in which rather super deformed monsters fight in cities. I recall my favorite choice was a stone golem with a blue orb in the chest.

Alright, I remember a NES game my uncle bought a long while back. I couldn't beat the first 5 minutes (too young), but it started out and you were skateboarding. It could be played with 2 people at the same time. The characters were kinda goofy looking and the 1p had black hair while the 2p had blonde. The sprites were pretty big.

I have the complete NES romset (have had it for 7 years) and haven't seen it yet (of course, I haven't played every game, but still…)

RuNa, is it Skate or Die? Or Skate or Die 2. By EA. Because those are the only skate themed games I can recall from that era and, like with a lot of games back then, I believe you could play 'em with 2 people.

Yeah, a nice idea for a thread. Might be even a sticky worthy. Although I don't need game identifying help myself. Sure there are plenty of games which names has escaped me but I don't want to play those games again either.

This was an NES game developed by HAL Laboratory. You had to play as this space dude going around to infiltrate and destroy 8 different space stations. The gameplay consisted of 2 parts, the first was typical R-Type/Gradius/Space shooter fare, and the second part consisted of Metroid-like platforming. You're character could also fly in the platforming sections too!

only other skateboarding game i can remember is T&C surf designs
but that had a Tiki guy with some facepaint or mask and some other guy skating in it

it might not be it since the game you have may not have a surfing portion to it

Besides Destrega, another possibility might be Evil Zone. Maybe Psychic Force.

Nope, not this. I don't think it was sports game (had enemies in it). I only remember the beginning, but you were skating on a road and there were holes and enemies. Had movement similar to Turtles in Time.

RuNa - You sure it wasn't T&C (wood and water rage)? It's a skateboarding/surfing game that has level ameplay similar to TMNT and Streets of Rage.

You want to know what's funny about that game? It fit a lot of what I wrote, but it isn't the right game.

OK, i recall having a atari 7800 game in which you where some kind of space tank thing. It was 2d side scrolling, the tank moved on it's own over a moonlike surface. You had to jump over craters and had to shoot some stuff as you went along the way.

I know, it's kind of a vague description. But maybe someone knows..

There was another atari 7800 game i can't recall the name of.
You flew around in a space ship, rescuing people on a 3d planet. You viewed the game from the cockpit of your spaceship. And sometimes you where suprised by alliens that appeared before your ship. It's so long ago.. can't remember the exact details.

I remeber having this old computer (Mac :D)
Had 3 Games I can't remember.

One invovled a green frog and letters (it was educational but fun) and then some monsters who would eat you at times.

The other was me shooting tanks but they had the art style of that "YOUR HEAD ESPLODE" strong bad, it reminded me of it.

The third was the hardest for me to remember. The spacship and there was this travel thing that was happening and the (damn barely remember) menu looked sorta like…. hmmm Dungeon hack here

That first one you're talking about is definitely Word Munchers. I loved that game in elementary school. Number Munchers is also pretty sweet.

That second game might be Tank Wars… but I'm not sure. You aren't giving me much to work with here.

From that screenshot... are you thinking of Dungeon Master or Dungeon Master II? I played Dungeon Master II for awhile when I was younger - the best characters were Torham, Grain, and Equus, from what I remember.

Ah yes Muncher that's it that was a really fun game despite the educational parts.

Well I think the Tank game was all black, and green outlines made the objects. Like forgetting to color inside the lines much.

The third was a spaceship game, It's the vaguest in my mind I don't mind if you don't know. All I saw of the game was a Spaceship and a giant red planet/star below it. It was 2-D

Trying to find a game which I once played on an old PS1 demo disc I had. In it you played a little yellow tank in a desolate world fighting bigger machines, the tank talked, in fact if I remember correctly he was a smartass.

i remember an old pc game with three vikings, fighting monsters, we can alternately use them according to that specific level needs.

That's definitely The Lost Vikings. One of the first Blizzard games, before they decided to concentrate on only three series.
