Worst ending I've ever seen would be the one for the Claymore anime. MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW
! Seriously, Clare did NOT kill Priscilla, all the "Dwellers of the Deep" were still alive, they had NOT uncovered the true goal of the organisation… All in all, nothing whatsoever was resolved, and because they stopped following the manga, there's not much hope for a continuation either.
When it comes to good endings, that one's a bit harder. I'm generally satisfied if the ending makes sense, wraps up at least most of the plot, and doesn't just randomly come out of nowhere. It's much easier to talk about how bad an ending was, than it is to talk about how GOOD an ending was. If I were to list a few endings I liked though…

Full Metal Panic - The Second Raid (Wrapped it up decently, while still making it clear that the story wasn't over.)

! Other than the fact that Kamina died waaaaay too early in the series, this ending was satisfactory. Simon went the way every other hero goes once there's no war left to fight.
Saiyuki (The original series, not Reload, since that's still ongoing):
! Ni Jianyi is just an amazing character. The revelation of him being a Sanzo Priest made him even more amazing.
Trigun Maximum:
! Knives and Vash reconciled in the end. I think that's all Vash really wanted.

! Near won on a really stupid technicality. Besides, Mikami should have known better than to think that Light wasn't going to kill that girl after Mello kidnapped her. Mikami wasn't nearly as clumsy as Misa, and yet Light was able to fix all of the hitches Misa had caused with his plans. Why not something as simple as this?

Umm, I'm pretty sure the huge "USE SPOILER-TAGS WHEN NECESSARY"-line was there so that people wouldn't accidentally find out the ending of some other show when reading through the thread…
Apart from that, I really don't see how Haruhi's ending could be considered one of the worst ever, though I think of "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya part 6" as the last episode, seeing how that was the last one in the TV broadcast-version. If it's the chronological ending though, I can totally agree, that was weak.

! Totally agree MonkeyDMalcom. For a series that actually followed the manga very closely, had awesome music, and decent production. The last "original" arc was trash. Not only did it fuck up the concept of the actual series, it had really a really bad cast of original characters and a stupid fucking badguy. And the "bang" ripoff of Cowboy Bebop was just lame.
GTO (anime)- while it was decent enough… it just didn't live up to the manga.

! Some people bitch about it being "too happy". What's wrong with that? I love those three and was very very glad none of them died. Just because there was no dramatic deaths doesn't take away the impact of this good end. The fact that Mugen and Jin felt at peace with each-other and happy they found the friends (Fuu too), was really a wonderful character change and development that you don't see very often. Made the journey worth my time.
Berserk (anime)
! LOL. A LOT of people would disagree with me on this… not only was the anime before it's time.. which sucks cause the manga just gets better and better with every chapter. But it was such a DARK fucking ending. I mean.. To Leave it off where it did!!! holy shit!
! But to me, who reads the manga, I loved it! It's just so fucked up that it's great!! For the series to lead up to that point (and if you didn't know what was going to happen) and then suddenly BAM!! The Fucking Eclipse!!! That's right... no original ending bullshit. nope. Just a car crash into the brick wall of the most dramatic part of the manga! I watched the series with a few friends who didn't read the manga, and they were literally speechless! The entire final two episodes... silence. That's right.. demons win. the end. Fuck you.
! As unresolved as the anime was (no puck, waaaay toned down gore. missing badguys and fights. NO SKULL KNIGHT!)... seeing the Great Eclipse in animated glory was freaking gripping and awesome!!

Blue Gender - Ending probably would've worked for Starship Troopers at least that way they wouldn't have had to crank out straight to DVD sequels.
Tende Freeze - this is actually the fault of the manga's length.
Prince Of Tennis - Too fast and too lazy.
Samurai Deeper Kyo - Then again when has the ending of crappy anime adaptation ever redeemed the entire series.
When I think "worst" endings I think GAINAX, so that's all I'm going to talk about.
Gurren-Lagann's ending wasn't bad, but I wouldn't call it good either. It should have ended with GARLOCK (not that moron 'Starlock') sacrificing himself to destroy the Great Dimensional Government and ensuring peace throughout the galaxy.
Probably the worst ending from GAINAX would be Mahoromatic, in terms of utter contrast to the start and gut-wrenching tragedy. It was original, it was interesting, but boy did it make some folks feel sickly sad on the inside.
Evangelion was just one weird show, a lot of mis-allocated budget and such. I'm not going to go so far as to call Anno a Lucas but he's devoted a decent effort into the re-Build movies.

^I found it hilarious how he was essentially beating the fanboys to the punch, even though I could've gone without that as well.
I feel special for actually liking End of Evangelion. I did this big write-up on my thoughts on it elsewhere, but it basically boiled down how it's implied that that was the similar to what the original ending was supposed to be, but wasn't due to the lack of money. In the last episode there were these weird flashes of Misato dead, Ritsuko's body floating in the LCL, and Unit-02 sequestered in the lake; all scenes from End of Evangelion. Also, I'm a sucker for Judeo-Christian imagery, and I thought the post-apocalyptic scene at the end was very impressive and unsettling.

! I kinda liked the bittersweet ending of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann with Nia managing to hold herself together long enough to fulfill her promise (marriage) to Simon. Even if yuo know it's coming, having your soul mate dissolve at the altar must really suck.
I didn't really care for the ending of the Death Note anime, but I guess they didn't have enough time to squeeze the rest of the manga in.

Out of series I actually like:
Other than the obligatory Cowboy Bebop, for example Azumanga Daioh was put to an end masterfully. Couldn't have hoped for a more perfect and satisfying ending for an amazing series. No need for any shitty spin offs or comeback series. Expecting Yotsubato to have a wonderful ending too. Although extremely anticlimatic, I kinda liked the end of Akagi as well.
As mentioned before by somebody, the ending of Death note and the entire part two were a huge disappointment. I loved the series from the start and past the events of chapter 58 (DHURR HURR STILL CAN'T SPOIL DEATH NOTE ALTHOUGH THE SERIES ENDED YEARS AGO) it turned uninteresting and forced. There's no way Death note could've remained interesting with the battle of wits between the main characters gone. I honestly doubt even the author thought people would care about Near or Mello or the rivalry between the two.

Something I just read through in the last two days, finished 10 mins ago and am bitterly disappointed. I could see the chapter count getting closer and closer to the end and I'm like they are only here how the heck they going to make it and guess what they freakin don't. Worst "ending" ever.

Cowboy Bebop: Grand, just grand. Tragic yes but definently one of the better ways for a main character to go out.
Samurai Champloo: I agree with the previous opinion on this. Unlike Bebop there was no real underlaying storyline (other then the Sunflower Samurai) and thus no need to end on a tragic note. The closure here between the three characters and their realization with one another as they went their separate ways was good enough. Plus who can't love that ending theme that plays over the credits.
FLCL: Somber but I found it interesting since after all the critical-ness of the main character finally slacked up a bit. That and I relished seeing Haru-Haru (or whatever her name is) facing disappointment for once the series.
Gungrave:
! Loved this one especially the irony in that after all that, Grave never beared any ill will to his long time bud (and that dude really didn't deserve his forgive-ness.) The final scene is a real heart tugger to me too.
TRIGUN (Manga): TONS better then what the anime gave us, I had a feeling Knives wasn't such a bad dude after all despite his actions. Glad to see the series return to it roots one last time for the final bit.
Death Note: (Manga)
! Contrary to most folks here, I loved Light's endgame. For all his smarts, forward thinking and over confidence. It just took one oversight to undo all he done which I found hilarious (and by a follower of his no less XD). Followed even more by his breakdown reducing him to a desperate shell of his former self. Whew man next to Spike, I thought this was a great end for a character. The anime let Light off too easy.
Bad
Shaman King:
! If it one thing I hate, its when a series leaves itself unfinished. But to do so in MID-BATTLE? No es beuno. Not cool at all. And that last page? (Shakes head) The anime gave it some closure but was just too generic for my taste. Wasn't the point of the heroes to stop Zeke without killing him thus preventing history to repeat all over again?
R.O.D TV: As much as I loved the series I couldn't help but be unsatisfied by this. Oh sure the heroes win but why is it they never really deal such a bigger blow to the villans after all they put them through outside of saving the world.
Digimon 02: Ugh one can't help but feel the writers ran out of juice and just went with anything. This was a real disappointment to me too cause 02 is my favorite of the franchise. The ending was just total cheese.
Full Metal Alchemist (Anime): After all that and…..what they just end up in another world? =P Well at least Al got his body back, one out of two ain't bad.

Shaman King should not count as a finished series since it is currently being re-published as a complete collection which the author has stated that the last volume of the complete collection will have an actual ending to it but that won't be until next year.

No, because that would require everyone who wanted to post anything here to have seen every series in existence, and though the thread is about endings, there's still no REASON why we shouldn't use spoiler-tags for each individual ending. I mean, just because I wanted to say how much the Claymore-anime's ending sucked, that doesn't mean that I'd want to read a bunch of spoilers about the end of all the shows I plan on watching/haven't reached the end of yet. Using spoiler-tags is really the only way to do a thread like this.

! even though this order is chronologically fucked up. It still makes for a waaay more dramatic ending. And the messed up timeline just makes more to figure out, and go.. ohhh so that happened then. It's more exciting to first timers as it keeps you confused and in suspense of what exactly Haruhi is and is capable of.

! Even though i'm definitely one who would prefer to watch a series in it's correct timeline, it sucks that the most dramatic episode is #6. After that, the rest of the series kinda pales in comparison to the plot of the previous events (maybe since, these eps are taken from the later light novels and pretty much are self contained plot's in a single episode). Not that i don't like eps 7-14, they are very good. But ending such an interesting and addictive series with an original episode that is basically "A day where nothing interesting happens to those around Haruhi" is kinda a letdown.

! Fantastic, from Kenshin finally coming out his depression to the final fight making use off all the characters (pretty obvious where Oda get this from) to the final battle which is neither one-sided and very well crafted. Enshi defeat was satisfying to me as he ends up losing the only thing to keep him going while Kenshin get the peace of mind he long since sought and fought for. I really hate they never adapted this into animation. I just can't accept the OVA's conclusion, this will alway be the real ending of this series to me.

Personally, I loved Big O season I's ending but hated the second because it was nerfed due to budget. The first didn't feel that way at all.

I liked the anime ending for NGE. I'm surprised at all the people in this thread that liked the movie though. A lot of people DON'T like it.
FMA is my favorite anime, but I hated the movie. HATED. bleah.
I'm on a slayers kick right now. They always end their seasons very nicely. Toward the Terra had an unexpected ending for me, but it was awsome.

I find it hard to agree with Sandai here as he has admitted that he never has, nor never will, see End of Evangelion.
It's essentially the anime ending re-worded and actually showing us what was going on. The anime just had Shinji sitting in his chair being depressed over Kaworu, and then was all ''Oh yeah, the world is ending and you're in control of it. Have fun.'' I liked End of Evangelion becuase it provided a more complete sense of closure. Maybe not the type of closure that people wanted, but I was satisfied with it.
I'm not asking people to STFU, but to be a bit more open minded and support their arguments with more then ''It was gay'', ''It was bullshitty,'' etc.
