This series took a while to really get good, although it's entertaining enough where I wasnt bored reading and wanted to see what happened next but i have a personal interest in behing the comic industry scenes type stuff. No idea how entertaining this series is if ur not into that. Not much until this current story arc most likely.
Uptil now this series has been eerily similiar to the Comic Party manga right down to SHujin striking one of Taishi's trademark poses(intentional spoof?). Even the character designs of the two protagonists are extremely similiar. The disappointing thing is if you're gonna rip off a series you had better be doing something way better or way different than the series you're "borrowing" from. And although the referrences were cool and a few of the jokes hit, I've been a little disappointed. This series isnt nearly as fun or funny as ComiPa and the lack of original characters and concepts early on did keep it from being what it could've been. I've been waiting for them to do more serious manga creating process stuff since ComiPa glosses over those in exchange for comedy and quicker pacing.
FINALLY they seem to be getting it right with this arc and showing the ups and downs of young people trying to become struggling cartoonists. I really like how pursuing their dreams with this much vigor isn't totally a positive thing and is having a major negative effect on their school work and social lives. This series has a lot of potential and is entertaining so far,but I cringed at early scenes where every family member and girl is just pouring with support for what's considered an embarrassing and nerdy career choice even in Japan.
I'm also really digging the fusion of real world manga industry situations and stereotypical shounen story elements( supporting your friends no matter what, perserverance, entering tournaments, battling your MUCH stronger and more talented rivals,etc.). It's a good series so far with a great subject matter that could be so much more than what is right now. It looks like it's getting there with the last two storylines, so hopefully it fulfills its potential from now on.
