Hey, I'm not sure whether these have been discussed but I came crossed these in episode 495 "The Gaon Cannon" page 16 -17: Is it "haki" as what Rayleigh use in the Human Auction Shop, Grove 1? Is it the first stage on learning this abilities? And does it related to "The Will of D"? Looks like all great pirates and great-to-be pirate know how to use it. Please comment.
Did Luffy know how to use "haki"?
-
-
guessing he figured it out off screen like gear 2 and it will be referenced later probably…
i dont know
-
No, he doesn't know how to use it. That was an accidental implementation.
He himself states that he doesn't know what happened to Motobaro. -
Zoro is probably closest to replicating "Conviction" because his Asura involves sensory manipulation.
-
it was said by Luffy in that chapter (or another one) that he didn't know what happend, so the answer is no - he don't know how to use it, he is gonna learn it probably
-
When I read it, I just saw it as Motobaro being a big coward and noticing Luffy wasn't budging he decided to play dead, or simply based out out of fright of no one backing down from a huge bull. I was surprised when I got on here and saw everyone stating Luffy learned it.
We only got this spirit thing recently, and I'd hope Oda didn't just think of it recently and would have Luffy use it accidentally sometime ago. But he didn't.

Eh, didn't Shanks use this spirit/ambition/haki thing in the very first chapter?

Yes, he used it on the Sea King after he saved Luffy, though he apparently lost the arm before using it. A shame
-
Gaon Cannon was even spectacular than "Haki" tricks.
-
He most likely used it accidentally. But no it has nothing to do with the will of D.
The other two we have seen using it
Shanks
Silvers RayleighHmmm not seeing any d's there
-
Don't you know? Shanks full name is Shanks D Roger-Portgas.
Silvers Reyleigh also legally changed his name from D. Portgas to Rayleigh to avoid debt collectors. He is not only Rogers first mate but also his cousin and brother inlaw.

I wouldn't doubt it.

I would, especially since it's Gol and Silvers that are their family names. =P (I messed up and I'm too lazy to edit it)

I wonder if there was a bronze in rogers crew….

Token Black Guy: Burrons Barbary.

@Gorlom: I hope you do know I was kidding. -

Depends on if Oda goes by what medals are awarded in the Olympic or by the periodic table.
if he goes by the periodic table I'd say it's copper (Cu) rather then bronze. (which is an alloy rather then a noble/precious metal like gold (Au) and silver (Ag).)
Zkaizer: I know I just needed to point out I was messed up.

Aww, and I was going to correct you too.
-
It seems every one directly involved with Roger has learned Haki.
Shanks and Silvers were on his ship. Luffy got the "touch" from Shanks.
Perhaps it's something inherited by D's, but can be observed and mimicked by people with strong conviction such as Silvers and Shanks.

I'm betting we'll see WB use this 'haki' as well. It makes more sense to assume it's something you learn as your experience and strength grow through battles.

What is the actual english translation for "haki"
-
ambition or spirit I think? Might have been a third meaning to. or the characters used to write it meant something in addition…

WTF! I get no "kick" out of it at all. I simply correct the post without saying or doing anything else. If they choose to notice, HOORAY. If not, whatever ~~ at least whoever reads my post can read whatever I quoted and not have to wonder how many languages are spoken on the internet. Pardon me for doing everyone else a favor.
And if you are going to do something, do it right!:
Ambition**,** or spirit**…I think? Might have been a third meaning too**,or the characters (that are) used to write it meant something in addition…
edit: Added ellipses cause they are cool.

Because someone beat me to it? I really do not get a kick out of it. How could I? You will thank me when you write your next cover letter for a job, where they won't flame you for bad sentence structure and grammar…they just won't hire you.
