"Eveything". Nice quality control there, FUNi.

…Just noticed that. :l Must've been in a rush to get it up. Hope it gets fixed soon.
-
So One Piece is finally up on the guide! (For DirecTV at least) Record! hits Record hits Record a few more time to be safe sends to top of series manager
Took some screen shots: (sorry for low quality, couldn't find good camera)
!
!Something strange to note, they use Tanaka's name and the Japanese air date for first run.
-
TV guides do that all the time. It's always showing the first air date.
-
Wonder how the ratings will do? What else is on the Toonami lineup?
-
What else is on the Toonami lineup?

2:00AM - IGPX
2:30AM - Eureka Seven

5:00AM - Inuyasha
5:30AM - Inuyasha -
I take it back I fuqqin love the promo.. Especially since I see it like every day now.
But here's something to consider, toonami most likely only got the master tapes for 207+ so there really wasn't much they could do as far as series overview. Which would explain why funi is the ones making the series overview thing.
Here's a question though, would you guys mind if the made some recap episodes or is that to much?
-
There are gonna be recap eps eventually anyway.
-
Don't worry, they said we'd get promos, so we'll get promos. Just be patient about it.
-
This is awesome, I'll definitely be tuning in for the first showing! crosses fingers for a surprise dubbing of OP5 and ED14
-
Just watched the promo again and noticed Doflamingo's voice near the end
-
Hulu just added all of the missing dub episodes from Seasons 1 thru 3.
EDIT: And it appears to be the same on One Piece Official.
-
It's great they finally got them up. I'll have to tell some friends.
Looks like 206 is missing on Hulu. lol The poor episode gets forgotten again.
-

That's true. There's totally that part in the middle of the Enies Lobby arc where everyone is all lined up that the series goes into, like, a 5 episode recap of the personal backstories of all the Strawhats up until that point.
-
ALL of them? Really? Dammit, and I just now started collecting the DVDs.
@Vegard:
"Eveything". Nice quality control there, FUNi.
Ain't that how the cool kids are saying it now in days?
-

We've all seen that their program doesn't feature spellcheck and they've hired non-English speakers to typeset from their DVD releases.

Probably just couldn't put it on there since it's technically part of Season 4.

Oh finally! I was getting sick of the big gaps.
(only 9 days left…..)

The memory-loss filler also provides some backstory content (obviously). Even though it's just a teaser of the character's origins, I think it'll be fine. Everyone is so concerned that the fillers may cause viewership to decrease, but I don't think that'll end up being the case. After all the crew members are back together after the Foxy arc it'll be interesting for new viewers to see why the characters are leaving each other all of a sudden, and just how strong their bonds really are after the arc is over. The ending of the arc is pretty ridiculous but it more or less serves it's purpose in proving how much all of the Straw Hats really mean to each other.
-
when usopp leaves the luffy crew, it will show viewers that ONE P IECE can be very sad too.
-
Yeah, thing is viewers will have to deal with a couple months of unbearably silly episodes to get to the cool, sad, or bad ass episodes. The Davy Back arc probably won't change anyone's opinion of One Piece, except for the show being uncut and all compared to before. That's why I think it'd be a good idea to show movie 8 first since it's an emotionally intense, action packed feature that shows just how awesome and serious the series can be–plus it catches up new viewers on at least one of the story arcs they've never seen while showing some flashes of the Water 7/Enies Lobby story elements to come. :ninja:
Hopefully new viewers will be patient enough. Toonami should really advertise the 'uncut' aspect of the new broadcast too. They do with Naruto–they even say "Naruto Uncut is coming on next" as opposed to just "Next is Naruto" or whatever. Uncut Naruto isn't even a huge deal since the DVDs have been out for years and even the censored Toonami version that aired years ago was practically untouched. One Piece on the other hand has never aired on TV even remotely uncensored, or with the original names and terminology, or anything. Even the FUNi version on TV kept 4K!Disms and they still censored it more than they should have to play it safe. It's not a huge deal or anything, but it'd be smart to market One Piece the same way they're doing Naruto to really get the point across that this is not the same crap that aired on TV all those years ago.

I think one thing that could be helpful, and I think someone else mentioned this way back, is that 207 has the scene where Doflamingo punishes Bellamy for his failure and for disgracing Doflamingo's mark. I think the intensity of this scene could keep new viewers interested to see more action in the future and get them interested in looking back in the series to find out what happened previously to cause that scene. I'm hoping that's a hook that will get people excited.
-
Personally, I'm nervous about One Piece returning to TV. Surely we all remember the last time they showed it on TV. So… many... bad memories...
-
So… FUNimation has all 205 episodes dubbed up on OnePieceOfficial.com, but is missing 106-112 on Hulu (those episodes are hosted directly on the FUNimation server). 206 is missing, though...
EDIT: Whoops! Someone already noted it.

4kids isn't dubbing anymore. Hell, they weren't even dubbing it by the point where it went off the air. Funimation has done a pretty good job dubbing it, and since it's on adult swim there will be absolutely no censorship

The fact that someone thinks, in this situation the guy above, that they are still dubbing it is worrying me.

People have been thinking that for years now.

Do you really not know One Piece has been in great hands for years or are you just worried it'll get cancelled again? :wassat:I don't know how someone can have a Tralfalgar Law avatar and be so up to date with One Piece and not know that.
Which goes back to why I think Toonami should advertise the 'uncut' aspect of the new broadcast, like they're doing with Naruto which was never really censored too bad anyway.

Its just baffling is all. I mean where do these people come from?
I can only assume it was a troll post as this was his one and only post. And in this thread of all places, that is no coincidence.

It's not baffling at all. For most people in America the only exposure they ever had to "One Piece" was the 4Kids version when it was on T.V. Not everyone buys FUNimation DVDs or knows about "One Piece" FUNimation dub on Hulu and FUNimation.com

Sure, that's understandable. But if you're an English-speaking One Piece fan who's either caught up to the anime or the manga (see: Law avatar) then it is pretty baffling.

No because not every anime caught-up anime or manga fan watches dubs.
-
Funimation just uploaded 3 catch up videos! Links:
Arlong -
Alabasta -
Skypiea -
-
Still, if you're posting on One Piece message boards, reading the manga, and watching the subs–it's almost impossible not to come across that information. I mean, FUNimation licensed the series 6 years ago and has since dubbed 263+ episodes. At this point, FUNimation has held the license twice as long as 4K!Ds ever did and they have dubbed more than twice as many episodes as 4K!Ds. At this point, 4K!Ds One Piece only comprises 1/3 of the show's history in the States. Not to mention the FUNi dub was on TV for months before its cancellation.
If you don't watch dubs then you may as well not know about 4K!Ds either. This is a silly thing to argue about–just saying it's pretty crazy that someone like that doesn't even have the slightest clue what happened when it's all over the Internet and it's been more than half a decade since FUNi took the helm.

Nice, I guess… but they do a poor job at telling people what's going on. They just seem like random clip shows to me. Why couldn't they get a narrator to sum up the arcs with some sort of synopsis? If any "catch up" videos are going to air on TV I hope they don't use these.
-
I don't really think they will help new fans, or anyone for that matter. Poor editing also, I'm sure people will jump right in when it starts though anyway next Saturday. Will we get talkback threads for episodes?
-

Speaking for myself as someone who these days only really reads the anime section, I barely know what's going on with the manga right now, among other things. I'm trying to say that just because you're on forum about something you like and you're on it a lot doesn't mean you're gonna know everything big that happens with the property, because you're not gonna click on everything. Just saying.

Exactly, it got cancelled not too far off from when Cartoon Network stopped giving a shit about Toonami. A lot of people didn't get the chance to discover the FUNi dub because it didn't build up enough momentum before getting cancelled. And the 4Kids dub was on T.V. longer, that means even if FUNi's dub has been around longer, it hasn't gotten as much exposure.

4Kids had major T.V. exposure compared to FUNimation, meaning simply even if you don't follow dubs, as long as you've at least seen somehow (and specifically here on a popular T.V. block before it started getting marginalized) it will leave an impression.

These promos are pretty terrible actually. I already had somewhat of a problem with the 101 videos, but that was more specifically with the Nami one cuz it was a bit too spoilery. These are just bad, worse than the "Bleach" promos on Toonami that are supposedly "recaps". Those aren't, they're minute long refreshers that barely tell you anything. These are even shorter, don't explain anything, and they're way too short.
I think these are indeed what they're running on Toonami, but hopefully they have something better. At the very least they should have more of these clip show things for every arc up to season 4, and not just these three.
Also Luffy #1 Fan, if you want talkback threads I don't see the harm.
-
It's kinda cool what they did w/ those little "catch-up" vids, but the Arlong one was the only one done with anything remotely close to "justice", and that's really only taking its length into consideration. The Alabasta and Skypiea ones felt way too short 'cause they couldn't put in enough material. If anything I think those two arcs (if they were given another catch up video) would either need an extra 30 seconds or minute just to scratch the surface. It'd be cool to see these on TV, but I do hope they get better ones that are even narrated by TOM (like the Bleach one…only longer).
-

Dragon Piece! Dragon Piece! I wish I could get a name change… -
I seriously wonder why they chose 1 minute? Unless these are going to be aired tomorrow night then I honestly can't see why they would chose such a short amount of time to recap those very long, entire-season arcs. Oh and I'm also on board for talkback threads as well.
-
I think the character videos were done pretty well. You really can't expect too much of them. Those recaps will be eating valuable commercial time–they can't do five minute recaps for every character and story arc out there. Ultimately, it's up to the viewers if they want to try out the rest of the series. The little catch up pieces they're doing are really all one can reasonably expect.

Because they can't afford to lose out on ad revenue from commercials. I wouldn't be surprised if FUNi is even paying them for the ad space for the recaps. The longer the videos, the more $$$ someone loses out on either way, whether it's FUNi or Toonami.

Another opportunity for me to shamelessly troll my "air movie 8" idea! lol. It would catch new viewers up to speed on at least one of the story arcs and it's also an emotionally intense, action packed feature that shows just how serious the show can be.
Anyway…
-

I am up to date. Very much so. But ever since the travesty that was the 4Kids dub, I've been very careful to avoid any kind of "English + One Piece" thing. It's made me paranoid and nervous about anything One Piece in English, to be honest.
-
Wasn't Movie 8 not that good though? At least from what I've heard. Haven't seen it personally
-
Those promos were pretty underwhelming.
I would have preferred some form of narration about the key events of those arcs, instead of "These guys fight these guys, they win, THE END!"
EDIT: But I'm sure those won't be the promos that air on Toonami, right?
-
I'm all for airing Movie 8 too. I like the movie for what it is, and from my experience, it did what you said…it shows "nay sayers" that OP can be serious and awesome. If Toonami aired EVA 1.11, then maybe later on they might air Movie 8. It just depends if Toonami wants to bother w/ the movie.

What was movie 8 about again? From my experiences, the only One Piece movies that didn't suck were Strong World and Film Z. But then again, I stopped watching the other ones at number four when they introduced that stupid candy fruit. It would've been great for someone on Big Mom's crew, but not for anyone else.
-
Movie 8 was the Episode of Alabasta film.
If only FUNi had the "Episode of Nami" special as well. It's only an hour long and would also be great catch up material.

I know it was already answered about Movie 8 (being the Alabasta recap movie), but I gotta say that if you stopped at the 4th movie and went straight to SW and Film Z, then you missed out on one of the best (imo) OP movies, the 6th one, Baron Omatsuri. Hell, I greatly enjoyed Movie 9, Episode of Chopper too! I'd suggest giving them a look. You may not like the 5th or 7th ones. The 5th was a Zoro-centric movie that kinda made him OOC for plot reasons, and the 7th one (while a bit of a guilty pleasure) may piss off some people w/ enough boob bounces to make Gainax blush. XD

Alright, I'll give 6 and 9 a try, and I'll definitely be sure to avoid numbers 5 and 7. Wait, 6 and 9 don't introduce any ridiculous DFs, do they? The two Logias introduced in movies absolutely appalled me. One being a good fruit given to a crap character, and the other being a ridiculous fruit given to a crap character (Not to mention that the latter wasn't even named correctly).
