Its gonna be back on tv? Oh hell yeah. Thats wassup!
Throughout this month, we will be testing new features (like search) so you may experience some hiccups from time to time. We'll try to not be too disruptive...
Funi TV Discussion (Saturday Night/Sunday Morning 1:00 a.m., USA Toonami)

Huzzah! Now this is some great news! While I do tune in to Toonami to give what little support I can, it's mainly used as white noise since I own a majority of the shows being shown. But I would definitely not put OP as white noise. I think they should just start at the beginning, because when you think back, 4kids cut out around 31 episodes of content…so Toonami can actually (maybe) build up these never-before-seen canon episodes. Besides, if they started from Season 4...I hate to say it, but there just might still be some ignorant masses out there that will still think there is no Laboon or Crocus...only a giant iceberg. And c'mon, Little Garden on TV would be awesome...not to mention finally seeing all the Alabasta fights in their uncut glory, and Dvorak being played during Gum Gum Storm.
-
I was skeptical at first but it really is confirmed that One Piece will air on Adult Swim Toonami in 2013!! I can't wait and I hope it totally secures the future of the Funimation dub.
-
That's actually pretty exciting news. Would brighten up the Toonami lineup. I personally hope they start off with the CP9 storyline.
-
Well dang that's pretty cool
-
Yes! Yes! YESSSS!
-
I will now watch toonami every week
-
Colleen Clinkenbeard posted the best thing ever on her Facebook about this.
"HOLY WOW! One Piece is back on the air, my friends! And it is up to YOU to make sure it stays there this time. Watch it. Turn on every TV in your house and watch it on all of them! Then write to Adult Swim and tell them how it has changed your life and made you a better swimmer with prettier hair so they know they have to pick up the next season! (Can you tell I'm excited?)"
I like this plan. This is good plan.
-
even though I have major beef with the anime, I'm glad to see this.
Hopefully it will catch one like it never got the chance to before, and more people will pick up the manga.
actually, my dearest wish would be for it to get really popular with kids in America. I would love to see little Luffys running around on halloween, and tacky OP shirts for sale at Kohls.
-
This is absolutely tremendous. Yesss! It's my duty to at least have the TV on when this is airing.

I say we make One Piece Trend on Twitter AS well as watching it. That counts as much if not more than ratings.

Sadly, that aint gonna happen. Not after 4Kids ruined One Piece for Little Kids. Unless Vortexx at the CW gets the Broadcast TV Rights for One Piece. Yes, those are different from the Cable TV rights.
-
I don't think we have to worry about censoring.
Besides the occasional "shit", there's really nothing there for AS to censor.
-
I thought it was okay to say shit on Adult Swim.
-
Not to my knowledge. I've heard it bleeped out a few times on Deadman Wonderland.
-
Airing one episode a week is likely what we're going to get, which I am super happy for.
But with that, we must recognize the reality of not seeing Season 4 on TV until 2017. One Piece has been running (mostly weekly) since it started in 1999.
Here's hoping it does well and we get two episodes a week instead. Or 3. Or 4. Or eleventy billion.
-
I'd rather have whole night marathons. Once a month.
-
I'd rather have a 24/7 marathon until they get to season four…
-
I'd tell you its impossible, but I think you know that already…
-
It's not outside the realm of possibility that Toonami could expand later this year. Perhaps that's why they're reluctant to decide when to start airing One Piece. If we get a mini-Toonami block weeknights from, say, Midnight to 2:00 AM, we could get five nights of One Piece a week, which would make starting from episode 1 much more palatable. Hell, maybe six nights a week. It depends on the deal Toonami worked out with FUNimation. I'm sure Toei is involved somehow, also. Five, uninterrupted episodes a week equals 260 episodes a year. That would get us to Davy Back nice and fast.
-
Holy moly! I can't believe it!!!
Get ready for it guys. I honestly think this is where One Piece's popularity starts to sky rocket. There is a generation of kids and young adults that are clueless to evil old 4kids and what went on before. The time is now for people to actually give it a chance.
-
What channel is this toonami again? I don't even have any memory of ever watching anything on toonami.

Dawww, I was hoping it was news that she'd dub something pr0nny again like she did for Mnemosyne :(, I'm just kidding, REDEMPTION HAS COME AT LAHST! Would you guys believe that some people aren't truly happy about this because they think that some fans will still hold the 4kids grudge and not give Funi OP a chance?

It's on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block on Saturday nights.

A mini-Toonami block 5 nights a week is the closest we'll ever get to FINALLY getting past Skypiea on TV. But will Adult Swim give up 3 hours of King of the Hill, Family Guy, and American Dad? All signs point to nerp.

DO those still get ratings? I mean, I'm just curious who is always watching those reruns. Especially King of the hill since that show always seemed incredibly boring to me
-
Adult Swim wont't rearrange their schedule just so they can catch fans up to One Piece. Starting from Episode 1 is the way to go, and it's probably the way they're going to go about this.
If they're not planning on starting from the beginning then I don't think Season 5 is the place to start. It's right smack in the middle of an ongoing arc and would leave new viewers in the dark. The beginning of Season 4 would be better since it's the beginning of new story and is fairly easy to get into, plus it's still very recent.
-
-
why do i the feeling the show will start either on the last DVD boxset(G4 Marine base?) or likely EP.1..which is fine with me.. Ive seen only episodes 1-42 and bits of skypia
-
Hell yeah! I'll definitely try to tune in. Maybe now I can convince my friend to get into it, if it starts from the beginning.
-

Hey now, I love King of the Hill. It does seem incredibly boring from a distance, but once I started actually watching it I realized how amazing it really is. But at this point even I'm not watching the reruns of it anymore. However, I'm sure they bring in the ratings as they appeal to a much larger audience than anime ever will.
-

I'm absolutely certain they get good ratings. Let's not forget that it was Adult Swim airing Family Guy (along with strong DVD sales) that brought it back from cancellation. They'll hang onto that for a long time.
As far as American Dad, well they show that and The Cleveland Show. As far as King of the Hill…I dunno...it is what it is. Some enjoy it, some don't. I don't. Whatevs.
And as Samwize78 said, Adult Swim likely won't alter their schedule to accommodate for one show. The only way that would happen is if the ratings for OP went through the roof. Like, 10 times the expected rating for that particular half hour.
In a perfect world, Toonami would air Monday-Saturday night starting at 12AM Eastern with an hour of One Piece, an hour of Bleach, and an hour of Naruto. Don't be on it, though.
-
lol at RomanGod getting banned right after One Piece comes back to TV.
-
LOL Indeed.
I hope it catches on with adults… and hopefully children who stay up late at night. But mostly adults, cuz that's the demographic adult swim wants.
-
Do you guys really think that One Piece never had a chance getting back on US television? I guess we just got lucky Toonami got brought back for this to happen.
-
Yes. The last place that aired it was Toonami and that was five years ago. Since then we've let other networks know we want it but they haven't been interested.
-
Yep, if other networks wanted the series, they certainly had their chance.
-
Just heard the news and I'm feeling extra SUPER this week. Now I have a good reason to start watching Toonami again.
Thoughts:
[Hide]-
I'm happy it came back on Toonami instead of other channels. I remember when it got knock off-air mid Skypiea back in early 08. That was a sad day, but it's time for redemption! Round 2… Fight!
-
I feel uncertain on where they should start. While I would ideally want them to start at season 4, for now starting from the beginning is the best option if we want the new fan-base to grow. One Piece is the type of series that's even accessible for non-anmie fan. Having introduced many of my friends to One Piece, I've been though the Funi dub multiple times. It's almost impossible not to be hooked after seeing the entire East Blue saga (up to 53 which means 1 per week will be a year). The part that worries is that the beginning starts off slow (especially the first 3 episode, with Koby of course
). If new fans can weather that then it should be smooth sailing from there. If there was some way Toonami could marathon the first few episode just for week one, that would be the best IMO.
-
Because my Directv has a cartoon nework east and west I'm going to try to record both time zones and hope it helps.
-
I'm not very familiar with Toonami's current line up. One Piece's time slot is, of course, critical. Its initial position in line up will clue us in to how Toonami views the series. (Hopefully this factor was somehow worked out during negotiations between Funi, Toonami, and Toei.)
-
We obviously as a fan-base need to watch consistently. (even the filler which won't be a big deal 'til way down the line anyway.) How One Piece will stack up against Bleach and Naruto should be interesting. Maybe One Piece could finally take the lead in America.
-
Hopefully, One Piece succuess will lead to other series making it on Toonami, especially Toriko since it's also Funi/Toei. I'd love to see that make it on Toonami. So tell your friends who like Toriko to also support One Piece too.
-
I just hope Toonami promotes One Piece well and gives it a fair shake.

There's a "New World" ahead! *sorry for pun don't kill me
[/Hide]Here's looking forward to the future!

Do you think One Piece has some kind of nostalgia in the US market? I mean I'm baffled the video on youtube for the 4kids opening has over a million views.
-
To be fair, that doesn't mean a million people have watched it. Hell, even I like listening to that crap every so often. Gyo, gyo~ dreamin'!
-
Even if you hate the song the opening gives a remarkable look at what a completely different series One Piece was under 4Kids.
EDIT: Wish I knew the logic behind this:
-
What are your guy's thoughts on how the ratings are going to be, assuming it'll get one of the top 3 timeslots? Maybe it's just because the One Piece fanbase is more vocal than others, but it really seems like the buzz for it's return to TV is high. It would be so awesome if it aired after Bleach and Naruto and it managed to beat them in the ratings. Everyone who can really should attempt to at least have it on. I love Toonami, but since its return I have rarely tuned in, due to the fact that all of my friends are the furthest thing from Anime fans. I don't think anyone even knows I'm a OP fan, but I'm going to be tuning into every Saturday with pride when it premieres!

Fans should also get on twitter and help One Piece trend when it is on, it helps bring in higher ratings.
-
The hype seems bigger because it was one of their most highly demanded shows but more importantly "One Piece" never really got a fair shot on U.S. T.V., unlike "Naruto" and "Bleach". That's why there's so much hype for this, it's potentially a clean state that could make up for damage 4Kids caused. Which is why it totally doesn't make sense to NOT start at episode one (yeah I know this pages ago but I had to voice my opinion).
-
Heh, I came here looking for DVD info and saw the new title of this thread.
Awesome news. For a brief period at least, One Piece, Naruto and Bleach are all going to be on the same television block. And that is, frankly, beyond awesome.
I hope it gets the audience it deserves this time.
-
I think we should start twitting "Expand Toonami" as well as twitting when One Piece comes on.
-

having listened to that tune, it's always made me wonder, what is it with Western animation or cartoons in general over here, that they feel that they have to yell the name of the show at the end of the song?
Even if you hate the song the opening gives a remarkable look at what a completely different series One Piece was under 4Kids.

[qimg]http://i.imgur.com/APTyPZ2.png[/qimg]Wish I knew the logic behind that as well. Oh well, at least not everyone thinks that way.

^As opposed to yelling it in the middle of the song, like most of the One Piece openings do

@Zek:

Yeah I suppose that is true, for me though, It just ruins what might have been a great opening. 1 thing I will say about the 1 piece 4 kids opening, at least it made great use of it.
Although there are times where it just flat out ruins the mood, for example
-
That's a good example, so is Kirby Right Back At Ya
-
At least they don't scream it twice during the episode (Full Metal Alchemist).
