Funi TV Discussion (Saturday Night/Sunday Morning 1:00 a.m., USA Toonami)

Adult Swim claimed to get the rights to three shows, so i've heard. My prediction is that one of those is definitely going to be Code Geas Season Three (i forgot the real name, but it starting in Japan like later this year). The other will definitely be Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. And for the last show I'd place my bets on Soul Eater.

I never considered One Piece, but it has a chance I suppose. I would think they would pick up series like Bakuman too or something, but that also doesn't come out for awhile, like code geass. so maybe they still will get them and code geass isnt one of the three they got now, and there is still one open spot. so who knows

Yes, but by that logic, it should also include blood. I suppose the bigger question would be, how can Luffy possibly get so sweaty that just touching Crocodile would nullify his powers? Then again, the same goes for blood… perhaps even more so, seeing how blood hardens fairly quickly... I'd say it's best not to think too much about it. By 4Kids's standards, the "Blood=sweat"-edit wasn't that bad, really.

I don't wana say the chance is 0 that it'll be One Piece, I mean a lot of us never thought 4kids would lose the license and look what happened there. So it is Possible, but the chances are EXTREMELY slim.

The only chance it has is the fact that AS isn't run by CN, it's run by Williams Street and even though it airs on CN, it's legally its own entity. And if the WS guys decided to get OP, then they decided to get OP.
Before Anyone says "But it's not AS Material" remember, AS Aired Pee Wee's playhouse and Saved by the Bell. AS doesn't HAVE any particular "Material".

But I'm not trying to say it's definitely gonna be One Piece, I actually believe the exact opposite, that the chances it'll be OP are so incredibly slim, best not anyone get your hopes up.

I really dont want one, but if there is a timeskip and Toei separates it with a new title (As Dragon Ball and Naruto did) there MIGHT be a chance….

Yeah but that would be way too far and it would skip some of my favorite arcs like cp9 and Impel Down… Maybe they could do what Viz did and trick Adult Swim by just putting the arc name in the title

Agreed. I find it hard to believe that they would license a show that doesn't exist yet, and may very well never exist.

Anyway, I'm still banking on FMA: Brotherhood and Inuyasha: Final Act, but I guess Soul Eater would be good too, because I'd love to see Soul Eater animated, but I'm not going to go out and buy the DVDs.

Ah man, I would love it if it were One Piece, but I just don't see it happening. It's probably one of the more popular shows from the last year or two, such as Eden of the East or Soul Eater.

I know of these updates, I even double checked them when you posted. They do not. I see mention of a new manga spinoff, drama CDs, and other shit, but not another season. How well did Geass perform on AS anyways?

Hey guys, how's it going? I don't know if this will help, but as you know I'm very big on "One Piece" getting back on T.V. and ever since that one rumor (if you don't know I'll tell you if you ask), I've been seriously considering Nicktoons Network. I won't say how (but it was easy for me to find) but whilst on the Interwebs I stumbled upon several business contacts from Nicktoons Network.

I don't know how contacting them would help, I know what each of them does but I don't know if telling them to pick up "One Piece" would have anything to do with their respective jobs. But as a fan, I'd do anything. But I also don't know if posting the link up here is a good idea. I remember at AX 2007 I met two guys from Toei Animation who told me that while they appreciated the stuff I did when I first joined AP, they said some of the e-mails were inappropriate to post here. So let me know what you guys think, I don't want to get anyone in trouble, especially myself. I don't want to break any rules on this forum I may not be aware of, and while I want to get the message across I don't want to harass the good people at Nicktoons. Maybe I'll PM certain people I trust with the info.

Well, I don't know about this rumor, but i would love for One Piece to air on TV again, but wouldn't it have to be edited in some way? If it did, it would create more work for Funi (creating a Tv and Uncut dub) and wouldn't that slow down the dubbing overall? Then again, Nicktoons may be more lenient than CN when it comes to censorship.

Really. I stopped watching WB a long time ago, I haven't watched it since it became the CW.

But 4Kids already had a monopoly, atleast on the anime shown on WB. Pokemon and Yugioh to name a couple. And then of course they totally raped over Fox a few years ago.

Disney would be a good place for OP if they wouldn't rape it to death, that's the only other place I could think of that would have an audience for it. Not the Disney Channel, but maybe that Disney XD. IDK if they would censor it AS much as 4Kids did, but they would have to take it down a few notches. There would atleast be no blood and language, but they probably wouldn't be retarded and try to horribly edit out the weapons (though I think Disney took an anti-smoking stance, so back to the lolipop for Sanji XD)

Meh DX There is no way around it, CN is really the only place it could go, but it's not the same place it was 10 years ago that would've welcomed it with open arms.

I love how all these channels have to censor their shows for second graders. When I was in second grade, some kids cursed up a storm even while these safer-for-kids shows played on tv.

I was in one of those magical places where the kids didn't curse, talk about sex, or reference obscene things and then I moved to a different place and felt kinda foolish I was the only one who wasn't like that.

Kids shows are just getting more and more ridiculous. I wasn't allowed to watch Rugrats around my cousin because my aunt convinced my grandma that it was teaching children to disobey, even though I had watched it for years and never did anything negative because of it. I couldn't watch Digimon, Pokemon, or pretty much anything else around her (I think I was 10-11 at the time so she would have been 2-3, not knowing what the fuck was going on anyway) unless it was on PBS or that playhouse disney shit. Still will curse that shit to this day. I grew up with the 90s cartoons and the awesome old cartoon movies, walker texas ranger, and none of this sugar coated shit and I'm not going around doing anything I shouldn't. [/rant]

Well, yeah, that's what they're trying to prevent. Even if it is impossible to stop every kid from getting influenenced badly, in their mind, as long as they stop some it's all good.

Yeah, but why bother preventing it if it's just going to happen anyway? When I was in second grade the TV was riddled with Playhouse disney level shows on ordinary "Kid" stations. And that was about 8-9 years ago. It's gotten even worse today.

Cultures are pretty different across nations. Being that our society (as little as certain vocal sects would have you believe) is a Christian one (heck, the entire Constitution is based off of the God-given rights established within the Bible) we're obviously not going to be inclined to support certain things, espicially in our 'children's programming'. I'm hardly an expert on the subject (and I'm sure God's gift to man Google could help you find one) but it makes sense that adults would prefer to preserve the purity of the young for as long as possible. What point to life would there be if there were no rules? The established rules give meaning to these things (meanings that imply they are bad things).

This is the reason I want funi to buy it! It would be so awesome to see Dragon Ball Kai (I dont care too much about it),Pretty Cure and One Piece in that block.

I think it would be best for the One Piece series to go on to Disney. I mean…isn't Naruto Shippuden being shown there? (Disney XD). Also, how strongly is Naruto getting edited on XD? Anyway, I think One Piece blends in far more with Disney for the simple reason that it's about pirates, and Disney loves pirates (not the pirates of nowadays pirates). Also, I heard news that CN will soon be moving away from its cartoon showings and slowly move to a Disney Channel pace(live action shows for kids/preteens and stuff).

They don't, their standards are the same as Toonami's. Nicktoons has Wolverine and the X-Men and Narudo Shitpuddin, two action heavy shows, so they're opening up more and more. Of course, Wolverine and the X-Men is a very "modern" kids show, actual impacts are kept to a minimum and when they happen the screen flashes. Nicktoons airs the 90s X-Men series which has much heavier violence uncut (along with all the older marvel shows) just fine, tho. They air Gargoyles too, but only in the middle of the night and many of the episodes are the censored ones that were shown after the initial airings of them.

Has anyone advise Toei/Funi about talking to disney to air One Piece in Disney XD?
I know there would be less blood and all but we had that with CN anyways.And even though I believe it is nothing more that a Glorified Rerun Funi could put Dragon Ball Kai to boost the channels interest in anime.

Disney XD seems to be into anime these days. Over here they gave Digimon Data Squad the same 4 Episode premiere treatment they gave naruto.

And they only inherited the first four series, the fifth one was licensed by disney themselves, the first step they made towards acquiring more anime. Although you are right, they only did it because it was a hit in fox kids.

I really hope disney xd will get it for Latin America at least. Toei hasnt found anyone willing to air One Piece because they are solely focused on CN and Televisa while Naruto ignores them and airs wherever it wants to.

Disney XD would be proably the best place besides adult swim to air one piece. Although editted it's better than nothing but all we can do is hope and buy the box sets. trust me buying the box sets does help because tv shows such as family guy and futurama came back because of dvd sales. And if Disney XD starts to air one piece i hope they don't edit it to much.

Yes, but the fact they haven't had anime in the past predicts a trend that they most likely won't have it in the future. Though there's always the possibility, Nick has never seemed to be the type of channel to get into that stuff, it seems like they more or less have an emphasis on homegrown animation.

That doesn't make sense. Cartoon Network once never aired anime, and look what happened. And I'm referring to Nicktoons Network the sister channel, not Nickelodeon. Nicktoons has been airing the Marvel shows, shows they don't own.

Aye, I can't say I care. I certainly don't want to see the series edited at all, even with an uncut DVD release…not to mention there's the streaming for those who want to watch it, or the DVDs.
