Yeah, I brought that up already. UGH.
X-Men: First Class

How can the writer and director behind Kick-Ass think that was a good idea. I mean what the hell.
Let's make a superhero movie that is the exact opposite of teenage angst -> get critical acclaim -> get chance to do an X-Men film -> do the exact opposite of what made your previous film great and copy a film that's nominated for a billion Razzies????

@Tokoro:
Yeah, Australian Wolverine was "Amazing Friends". Heck, even SHS knew that having, of all things, an Australian Wolverine clone in an episode that felt like it parodied a lot of "Amazing Friends" concepts. (and oh yeah, Firestar showed up)
Yeah, what the hell? I was up at like 3am a few months back and turned to Disney XD out a boredom. It was showing Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends and it was an episode with the X-Men. I thought "Oh hey, this should be cool to see, early animated X-Me…"
The cutoff was due to hearing Wolverine speak. Not just that, but the whole episode (I'd imagine the whole series is like this tho) was just so bloody bad and hilarious by today's standards. Truly amazing how far we have come.

You can say that about a lot of 80s animation: they had intention but really didn't know how to write for the characters or they were more or less building on what had come before in animation. These days, when we've had so many good superhero adaptations, they know to bring their A-game to adapting them and making something memorable.
Back on topic: I get that the X-men is a source of writng a tale with teen angst…but they have to realize that it's a superhero story first and foremost with aspects of minority rights and teen angst as sort of window decoration. Trying to say "it's going to be Twilight...with superheroes" dooms it already, at least in the aspect of ridicule.

If Bryan Singer is involved, I can be optimistic.
The Star Wars prequels taught us why it is important to have a second screenwriter and a good producer who give advice to the director.
More importantly no stupid "in 3d" promotional crap.
-
Bryan Singer's involvement is reason to not be optimistic. He's comic book movies are bad. X1 and X2 were bleh and Superman Returns was one of the most god forsaken movies I've ever seen.
I mean really Superman fought a piece of land????
The only redeeming quality in that movie was Kevin Spacey's portrayal of Lex Luthor.
That being said I really like what Singer did with Trick 'R Treat, if you haven't seen it I highly recommend it.
-
X1 and X2 were great movies.

This seems to be the final trailer.
Magneto screams uber badass. I am hyped
-
Was that the Hellfire Club I saw?
-
There's a lottery on a website of a tv channel for german fans to win a 4days trip to New York with stunt lessons to learn the stunts from the movie. And to learn how to "fly". It would be so cool if I'd win that… But winning tickets for the cinema would be cool, too, tho.
-
The more I see this movie the more I think it's going to be the best superhero movie this year.
-
I think it's going to surprise a lot of people (in a good way).

Holy shit, awesome trollface

cast of the movie is fabulous and anyone can get crazy for this movie and will enjoy it definitely . Who haven't watched it yet , must go for x-men movies .

This is the impression I have as well. The trailer shows a lot of character development and I love the tone and context of the movie. I did not see a lot of stupid explosions non stop. More importantly it is not in 3D.
Anyone knows the ost of the second half of the new trailer ?

First impressions of the movie http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/joshw24/news/?a=37700
Hyped !

Can't wait to go see this~
Hoping to see it on the 1st June, the day it comes out in cinemas in England~
-
You lucky bastard !
I have to wait more than 10 days than you cause I want to see it with a good friend of mine. It is gonna be hard for me to stay away from major spoilers.
My impressions of the trailers are starting to be comfirmed.
I definetely want to see this movie owning all the other 3d super heroes movies in critics and box office. It would be a nice blow to all this 3D crap. -
Hopefully, this will make us forget the abomination called "X-Men Origins: Wolverine", …uuuurghh...

T_T I agree, that was indeed a horrible movie. Gambit is my favorite Marvel character and in his first movie appearance, they manage to fucked his character up. They better make this movie actually really, really good.

So glad Wolverine isn't in this, we need a breather from him. Almost flipped out yesterday, a guy in my Spanish class said "Why bother with an X-men movie, everyone knows he's the leader." I almost popped adamantiam claws on his nuts.

Can I put that in my signature?

Totally agree. Wolverine is overused. He is a cool character but I think Magneto and Xavier are way more interesting. Their conflict in ideologies is the core of the X men franchise.
Wolverine was the main character in 3 movies and 1 television series. That's enough. There are rumours that wolverine could be in a sequel if the movie does well with the box office. I hope they will cut him because he already has enough focus.
-
@Sniper:

Go right ahead.
Seriously looking foward to this movie though, especially the one interview that described Charles as "A sexed up, somewhat selfish version of himself."
-
I always wanted to see another glimpse of magnetos past in the concentration camp. This film could really score some points if they do it properly.
-
I've always wanted to see more of Ellen Page's Kitty. She's perfect for the role, but the writing of X3 was just terrible. An adaption of Wolverine and Kitty Pryde would be great, because that limited series contains tons of development for both characters (it was one of the first times where we see glimpses of Logan's past and it's the point where Kitty stops being a teen and starts being an X-Man and adopts the Shadowcat codename).

Reviews are starting to come in and they're all incredibly positive.
[hide]Between Sheldon Turner, Bryan Singer, Matthew Vaughn, Jane Goldman, and Ashley Edward Miller & Zack Stentz, this has not been an easy birth, but I am happy to report that it is a successful one. And this isn't a case of managed expectations, either. "X-Men: First Class" is a genuinely good movie, not just a good superhero movie. Big and bold and aggressively told, it feels to me like this is the first film in a brand-new franchise, and even the few very wicked and enjoyable references to Singer's films that are hidden in this one don't tie it down. This is ground zero, and I think Fox just got it right, really right, in a way I can't say it feels like they have on any of their Marvel films so far. With the right support, and with this film's key creative team onboard, a sequel to this could well be the "X-Men" epic we've been waiting for since day one.
For now, this is one hell of a start.
So… Is It Any Good?
Oh, hell yes. I really would recommend you go see it.

Easily up there with the second feature, X-Men: First Class should hopefully eliminate the nasty, lingering aftertaste of the thoroughly underwhelming third installment (incidentally, a film which Vaughn was mooted to direct at one point) and the anemic Wolverine spin-off. Fox are now in the enviable position (like the aforementioned Star Trek) to essentially start afresh and embark on another series. Let’s hope they stick to this template in the future, whether it’s for another X-Men film or any comic book adaptation for that matter.
If the rest of this season’s high-profile superhero features get anywhere close to matching what Vaughn has done here, we could be in for a thoroughly satisfying summer of escapism.

If you were nervous the latest chapter in the X-Men franchise might disappoint, I’m happy to report it’s a huge home-run. Everything from the great script to the awesome performances by the entire cast (with special mention to James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender) makes this X-Men film my favorite in the franchise. Also, the film is loaded with incredible action and a ton of Easter Eggs for the fans. Even the sets and costumes are great. Trust me, as soon as the movie is over, you’re going to wish the next chapter was coming out next week.
http://www.heyuguys.co.uk/2011/05/25/x-men-first-class-review/
In summary: X-Men: First Class is an extremely well written, well acted and well-directed thriller with superpowered protagonists that manages to get the audience involved in the destinies of each of the characters. It ties neatly into the other movies (only two minor continuity quibbles remain unresolved), but stands out as the best of them. As a matter of fact, X-Men: First Class sets the blue-gold-standard for this year’s superhero movies — and frankly, I don’t think the others can beat it. Among all the other superhero movies, I rate this second only to The Dark Knight.
Verdict: extremely recommended.

Can't wait to go see it.
And for God's sake, Synger, stay on for upcoming projects this time.

There's a certain cameo in the movie which I hear is quite entertaining.
! Wolverine Jackmen shows up and tries to be recruited, and his one and only line is "Go fuck yourselves."
That is awesome, didn't know you could say that in a PG-13 movie. -
The movie was made in 9 month with the lowest budget of the super heroes movies and they are getting great reviews.
I wonder if Bryan singer got his inspiration from MGS 3 (Cold war, origin story, james bond feeling, the 60s, impeding nuclear war, secret society, strong character development and the importance of point of view).
-
I'm so glad to hear the positive feedback this movie is getting, especially after the not-so-good X-Men 3. What's worse is that I was hoping the Wolverine movie would make up for it…
But this. This is good to hear. I wanna see it NOW!

Currently standing at 98% on RT with 43 reviews counted and the only negative review came from a guy who wanted to kick it off 100%. The internet still seems adamant on hating it though, since everywhere I go I see people whining about how terrible this movie'll be and how awful the actors are and how the rights need to be reverted to Marvel.
-
I saw it today, it's a good movie! MUCH more better than X-Men Origins: Wolverine
! Although, his cameo got quite a few laughs in the theatre

I predict roger Ebert will give it a 2 stars and say that it is inferior to the Dark Knight. One of my problems with TDK was that the movie felt arrogant and they were trying too hard to be smart. It sorta lacks humanity.
Judging from the trailers, the relationship between Xavier and Magneto seems more genuine and natural.

This is one of the main reasons I want to see this movie. I really hope the conflict between the two is done right.
-
Update: Close, Ebert gave it a 2 and a half stars. Well screw you, I am gonna see it anyway. You cheated on me on episode 3 and Avatar. You said X men 1 sucked while it was awesome.
Speaking episode 3, first class is giving me the impression that this is what SW episode 3 should have been. A love and hate relationship between Anakin and Obiwan, a different point of view, empathy, hatred that we can understand, something noble. Anakin's motivation to save stupid Padme was vomiting and so childish

Just got back from the premiere. This movie was excellent. Certainly my favorite of the X-Men movies. I enjoyed everyone's performance, but, wow, I was extremely amazed by Kevin Bacon. Loved it.
-
Good thing this franchise finally got a real director. It seems to be reviewing like I had hoped.
-
Bryan Singer wasn't a real director?
-
So does this movie suck or is it actually something worth seeing? Think I'll cash in on a ticket for Captain Jack rather than this farce of a prequel.
-
Pirates 4 was a godawful snoozefest of a movie that was only saved by its two main characters
First Class was a great movie with all around excellent performances and a great story.
-
I saw it last night. Really good and say one of the better X-Men movie.
Didn't like how they had Havok their as he shouldn't of even been born :P Loved the cameo too haha
Good movie.
-
Is that a fact? Hm, I might have to go see this.
-
The Best X-Men movie in my opinion
-
Not as good as X-2. Kinda had the introductory feel of X1 but loads better than X3 or Wolverine(not that Wolverine even counts). It was by no means a bad movie but i felt like there was a lot left unexplained and since it was kind of an intro movie there was that rushed feeling of getting all the characters together, the training montage, lack of development for most of them. The way it comes together at the end makes you wonder what happened to a lot of characters in between. There was nothing after the credits but i wouldn't put it past them to make a sequel if the movie does well. If i had to rank them i'd say
X-2
X1
X-Men First Class
X3 -
I'm sad.
Said I'd see it on Wednesday.
Couldn't afford it.

Haven't been to the cinemas since Toy Story 3
IN SEPTEMBER.
