I DLed an AVI video that came a .SRT file (subtitles file) I want to hardsub the .SRT file so that I can then convert the AVI to have smaller size but same quality. What program should I use?

I was going to ask the same question a week or so ago with converting softsub embedded .mkv's into hardsubs so I could convert them to .avi's.

I strongly suggest using what the fansubbers use, Avidemux and/or VirtualDub to encode the subs onto the frames themselves. Merging? I've never done it before (though I intend to) so that's the best advice I can give. VD is probably the better choice even though it is more restrictive in terms of what one can load.
