They both have a certain magic. The original art, SBS, Title page-side stories, and the color spread are the manga's magic for me.
While the Anime has, a great cast of Seiyuu, seeing the character come to life, and a great Soundtrack. (Not to Mention the movies)They also, both have cons. The Anime has fillers and (added recently) extended Scenes and recap. While the manga… well as far as manga goes it's perfect. But for me, If I only stuck to the manga I'd probably wont have the same feelings for One Piece i have now.
I myself enjoy the fillers. After witnessing the horror of other anime fillers, you will come to notice that the people who write the fillers for One Piece are probably fans themselfs, are funny as hell, and are dedicated to the show.
Until recently I loved the anime more then anything but the extended scenes make an episode only a chapter or two worth of new material and watching the same frames being re-used all the gets boring. I wish it would go back to how it was before Skypeia =( -
It depends as I like both tremendously. However, sometimes I feel that the Manga holds more impact than the Manga more-so than the anime does. For me, the Thriller Bark in anime form is really poor so far. 363 looked like they improved animation in fighting and I hope they go all out VERY SOON because they are about to fight Oz for 15 episodes and it should be pretty awesome.
Then again, the anime has high points too as some fights are really good and emotions can be shown clearer. I really enjoyed when Luffy and Usopp argued about Merry inside the ship.

Manga, the anime is alright. But, it to fails to capture the spirit Oda incorporates into the manga IMO. Plus, the character designs are inconsistent and sometimes look rather awkward, and does not keep true to Mr Oda's style. Also Oda's design's are consistent, more better looking than the anime incarnation I mean look at Robin, Franky in the anime and then compare it to the manga version. I am not saying the anime is bad it has some upsides like music,near perfect seiyuu (Mayumi Tanaka).
The anime is fine, but not as good as the manga IMO.

absolutely the manga…no doubt
the anime is not well drawn in my eyes (look for example at "cowboy bebop" )
also the fillers annoy me but its still fun to watch the anime.. i grew up with the manga and wished for so long that the anime will appear in germany ...so i watched nearly all episodes but i surely can say the charme of the manga is not reached.. so its okay to get into this series by the anime but you have at least to read this series 1 time in his manga form.

Manga all the way. It's full of Oda's love and spirit which the anime, most of the time, fails to capture.
Although I do like the beautiful background score and the 6th movie, as well as few of the songs. -
The manga but if you think about it not even the manga captures all of what Oda wants. I mean the manga is closer to the real story then the anime but with editors and stuff even the manga isn't all what Oda wants. Manga is better

For me… anime is not that well draw it most of time... and manga is the original stuff so that is better. Anime has fillers... what is great thing sometimes, but manga look's so gooood. Oh and story feels more real when reading manga. Don't get me wrong, i do watch anime, its very fun. Almost always when big fights are rumbling. I just hope we see on manga, filler like arcs, where they just travel or something, what is not leading to another main arc.

I wouldn't mind the Anime that much if it kept most of the blood. But that's what most of the animes do when they're made…so I can't really complain.

i'm kinda in the middle on this one, i love the manga for the no fillers, and the art ALWAYS looks good, but it just looks so cool to see and hear what was done in the manga, and on the big screen, the voice actors (especially luffy's) makes the scenes just a little bit more emotional, considering when i'm reading it in my mind the dialogue comes out more as monotone, i don't know which i like better.

well i watched up to ep 69 then read the manga for the little garden arc and i still cant diside wether to watch the anime from now till the end or the manga? what do you guys think?

About a year ago I would have said anime, but I think it's been going downhill in terms of art and quality since EL ended. TB has been pretty mediocre in the anime so far IMO.
I do still like quite a few scenes animated though. Especially in the fights.

The manga cuz it is the original and I love Oda's style
and the anime cuz of the fights and the emotions. Sanji's, Luffy's and Zoro's fights are even better animated. And I like the voice actors. BUT I hate that damn fillers.

It's great to see some scenes animated, especally the fights. However in general I prefere the manga. I find it easier to read chapters than sit down and watch an entire episode of an anime.

The anime IMO fails to capture any feeling that the manga has. As said above me Thiller Bark is lacking. Zoro v Ryuuma was an intense fight and it came off as shit when they animated it. The whole series feels to slow for me as if they drag things out for un-needed dramatic effect a la Bleach. I choose manga over anime any day.

Well, I actually thought that particular fight was okay in the anime. Glad they kept it from dragging out.
I'm annoyed that they are extending the Luffy/Moria confrontation in Oz's freezer for so long. It was like, a few pages in the manga.

You really liked that fight? IDK, to me that fight was just too slow, it had useless pauses and the moves looked horrible. To me it was too long.

Luffy is literally given life in the series along with the other characters and it's awesome to see their interactions and reactions to each other's personalities. nearly every episode makes me smile or crack up, and that is worth something.

The manga all the way. Oda is flawless. The anime on the other hand tends to be spotty. You'll have a really excellent (speaking about animation) episode, where you say "Damn they animated that perfectly". Then you'll have an episode that uses character models from ten fucking years ago, and is animated very poorly. In addition to all of that you have the unbearable filler. The crew meets an old man with a dream/a child with a dream/a goat with a dream. And on top of that all of the characters turn into complete clichés. But all the voice acting on the show is top notch as well as the sound design in general. It's a real mixed bag. Y'know I wouldn't mind filler so much if it was made to where I could completely skip it. Which One Piece seems to have gotten better at in recent years, still far from perfect, but better.

No. Oda's art has changed several times, so it's not consistent. Just like the anime.
You misunderstood, what you are thinking is that I meant the art is consistent. The manga art has changed because the drawings are have become more refined, The manga has entered an new art stlye which has been noticeable from the Water seven arc and has remained consistent from there. The anime, is trying to copy the the new artwork only failing to be consistent with Oda's new artwork. With character designs looking awkward.

(That being said, I can understand why people prefer the manga, but the anime gets props for direction, voices, soundtrack, and being oh so damn funny)

To be completely honest, i've heard it said somewhere before. I'm not sure if it was One Piece or something related… but even though I read and speak very little Japanese (like kindergarten level, lol), I didn't know what it meant. I thought it was just a more formal way of saying the Mugiwara Kaizoku (strawhat pirates). It kinda sounded like a group sorta word. thats why I use it. Thanks, I appreciate the info!

Well, now that ya mention it, it was rather slow in comparison to the manga. I'm just glad it didn't take up the whole episode.

Probably the biggest beef I have with the anime is the art quality. While Oda's style naturally evolved over time, the anime kept roughly the same style throughout Alabasta and Skypiea, and then tried to change to follow Oda's overnight, and the results looked pretty rough. It's great that Toei's been showing us that it's still got it recently, but man, the anime looks so cheap half the time, especially when compared to its Shonen Jump brethren. Well, maybe not Eyeshield 21.
I really can't wait 'til they leave Thriller Bark, because I'm really starting to get annoyed by the color pallette. The anime's always been colorful and bright, and this drab and darkness really needs to go.

I hate the anime's art too.
Everything looks akward and goddamn does the coloring suck. There's something almost slightly washed out about it.
That and all the backgrounds are all watercolory.

The art is the only thing that annoys me about the anime. I'm in the minority when I say I'm a sucker for fillers. It's a nice change of pace, especially since they tend to be less serious than the main story. After I watched Alabasta, it was nice to see the characters just relaxing after their huge struggle. The episode with Robin and Chopper getting to know each other was cute.
I still enjoy the main story more, but I find the fillers fun.
EDIT: When I say art, I really mean animation and how often characters get off model. The actual background drawings and ideal character models I like.

I'd have to say they're both excellent. I love the Anime because it's got the cool back-ground music and I love seeing my favorite scenes animated. I love the manga because it's further ahead of the anime and I love reading it every week. There are probably other reasons but I can't think of them.

Zoro's fight in Thriller Bark was only better because his finisher made more sense to me, and I liked how he grabbed his arm for leverage. Pretty sure that doesn't come across as strong in the manga.
The movies are good fun, and I love 6. LOVE IT. Its so different but that adds a lot to its appeal. Plus its just epic and Ussop looks kick*ss.
All that aside, the manga wins hands down. The style, use of panels and double pages, even it being in black and white just fuel your imagination. Hard to complain about it, its just got a certain way about it. The anime excels in fights, obviously, but thats the nature of the beast.

I've only seen the anime so far, but I like manga much because it's original ,you know, not redrawn, like anime, though I like anime to cuz it's in collor and you can see the real movements. and first time I saw one piece i thought it was not drawn that good, cuz I was used to things like naruto and death note, but I think the way one piece is drawn is what makes it so fun

I wouldn't be able to decide. I watch the anime and I read the manga. It is great seeing everything come to life on the big screen but I'm a comicbookfan because this also has its charme, certainly manga were, to me, they seem to do magic in dynamic storytelling, using pages to the ultimate. I don't really like the fillers mostly and the episodes nowadays are to stretched with too long scenes and all. I can't wait till they have caught up to where the manga is now. That's going to be killer. so manga / anime = 50/50 maybe a bit more affection for manga so perhaps 55/45

Anyway, the music and some voice actors are the only things that give the anime an edge in my book, but otherwise I view the two as nearly equal.
Example: since being in Japan, I've been reading a lot of the OP manga and watching a lot of the anime (in the original language), and when I'm idle and reflecting back on a certain part of the story, I'll often get confused as to whether I just read that chapter, or watched that episode (or both). To me, that's a testament of a great and well-balanced series, where the anime doesn't try to top the manga, nor does it do a shoddy emulation job. Both are great.
Oh, but the occassional awful animation in filler (and Thriller)… (and movies) detracts from the anime.

like the manga, you can go about your own pace, if you like a frame you can stare it for like 30 minutes if you want, savour the moment you know, and go about it at your own pace.

Manga. Because anime lacks quality too much. Only when they bounce or looks like movie 6, its good. Or the bloodbath of Zoro episode, was that same as bounce people… nag, cant say sure. Manga is superior (expect GitS)

I like the anime better. Really, it's one of the better manga adaptations out there, especially for a long running series.
The voice acting, direction, music, it all gives it a lot more impact than the manga to me.
That said, it'd be nowhere without the manga, and I do love the manga as well.
